How was your upgrade?

Can't get the upgrade to work on my Macbook. I wonder if it's because my W8.1 version is the 8.1 Embedded Industry Pro. Got it from MS's DreamSpark program as a college student. Maybe I need to have the plain home or pro build.

I got it updated and working great in VMWare Fusion. I recommend running disk cleanup on system files because I removed 16GB of "Previous Windows Installation."

I have to say, I really like it. It runs smooth even on 2GB of RAM and 2 cores, the accent color personalization that i wish OS X had, the look is nice, the search is nice.

But remember to disable all that "Send info to Microsoft" stuff.

hi,
couple of questions, headphones are not working in windows 10 bootcamp here, anyone read anything on this?
second, i installed windows 10 (upgraded mode) just wondering if in the future if i want to do a clean install, will i need to install it from bootcamp assistant or can i clean install it directly from windows 10?
thanks.

It's all confusing indeed!

Cheers

I HATE this MS upgrade Sh*t!!! You have to be an Engineer to perform a simple Windows 8+++ update!

Unless you need to resize your bootcamp partition, you can do a clean install from within Windows 10, under system reset, second option - Remove everything.

I have the same issue: VMware SVGA 3D on my cMacPro ... have you found a way around it? Seems strange since when using Windows booted normally, this driver isn't even being used. It is a artifact from the VM environment I also access Windows 8.1 from while running OS X.

Hi hfg,

NOT yet, it seems that this 'upgrade' is getting more frustrating by the minute! I think best way to upgrade is to put the full updated Windows 8.1 HDD/SSD in bay #1, strip your cMP COMPLETELY from having other HDD/SSD - leave those PCI (e.i. DUO x2) cards empty inside for the drivers for the hardware - and perform the ALMITY (make a bow in front of your cMP) MS UPDATE! Man how frusting a simple upgrade can be!

I'm realy pissed of ATM! Changing to cool-down mode with a nice cold beer instead. ARGGGGGGGGG!

Cheers with a beer! ;-)

Finally...after a year of waiting for OS X Yosemite to get stable and working the way it was suppose to be over OS X Mavericks it finally works.

Now...another....OS X El Capitan comes out and so far riddled with bugs to be worked out in the beta. OS X El Capitan is suppose to be the improvement over OS X Yosemite, but so far in the beta version has a long way to go.

This has happen every year since I can remember. We have to wait a year until the "New" OS X is stable and working properly and then considered "old" and outdated once it finally works...then another...

Humm....maybe in my mind I should think when a new OS X comes out officially, it is a beta for a year until it is finally stable. Just think that when the fall season occurs, the release of a new OS X is a preview edition until a year later...

I cannot believe what I am going to say: After twenty years of Microsoft's attempts at putting an OS out the first time that works out of the box....I think that finally hit it with Windows 10.....

Might have to stick with OS X Yosemite for awhile....

Snow Leopard...I am dreaming...

Windows 10 is buggy, like every 1.0 or Beta software trying to be a 1.0, these days:

"Windows 10 feels unfinished, but in a different way. The concept of the operating system is a great deal better than its predecessor. It's better in fact than all of its predecessors. It can ably span a range of form factors and designs, and it can be comfortable and effective on all of them. For all my gripes, it's the right idea, and it's implemented in more or less the right way. But I think it's also buggier than Windows 8.1, 8, 7, or Vista were on their respective launch days. Some issues are just downright weird: set your screen to 125 percent scaling, for example, and Notepad windows have a mis-sized menu bar. It all feels a bit glitchy."

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe that it is possible to switch hardware during that "free upgrade year", you only have to install Windows 7, activate it and go through the whole upgrade process again. That way, your license should be associated with your "new hardware". Only once the free upgrade offer ends, you're unable to switch hardware.
If you have a retail disc you can install it on your future hardware no problem. You just have to deactivate each time.

Here's an idea. Why not remove any VMware stuff if it's not being used? I have Win10 in a VMware fusion VM so it is fine.

MS (the computer) sais NO! ;-)

Windows 10 isn't just adjusted to a Virtual Machine yet!

So be it! Let's wait and see...

Im not sure what you mean.

That driver that is installed currently is not compatible with 10.

Remove it.

Install 10.

Update to latest drivers from vmware.

My iMac, i ran windows 8.1 in a bootcamp. I also had vmware fusion access it so it installed drivers to the bootcamp. I must have been using a newer version than you lot, as my upgrade to 10 went without issue.

I also ran 10 preview in a separate VM. Also without issue.

I just finished upgrading to 10 from a Windows 7 Boot Camp installation that I had on my 2010 MacBook, so far it's working well but there are a few hiccups. For starters the trackpad doesn't work at all and I also can't use the function keys for adjusting the volume or brightness like I could in 7.

I have to say, I'm actually really liking 10. It's not as stodgy as 7 was and certainly beats the snot out of 8/8.1!

You have to reinstall BC drivers after install

That's weird. Have you resolved this yet?

I have Windows 10 in a vmware VM and it's working fine and is using the same display adapter yours says is incompatible. If you haven't already, and are still in the Windows 8 VM, try uninstalling vmware tools, reboot the VM, and re-install the vmware tools. Then try the Windows 10 upgrade again.

Dumb question but has Vmware come out with a new set of Vmware utilities that you install? Maybe for that product you need to way for an update?

For those who have upgraded their Macbooks, how's the trackpad experience vs Windows 7/8?
