This is the perfect time to market a new gen of M2 MBA's to the detriment of windows based low end laptops mostly effecting on the fence (MacOS vs Windows) or new buyers of laptops.A Wintel brand vendor pointed out that at a price point of US$1,000-$1,500, the MacBook Air will crowd out other high-end notebooks," the report claims, with "Wintel" referring to Windows laptops powered by Intel processors. The report added that "upgrades to the M2 processor, camera lens, and casing put the slight price increase of the new MacBook Air within an acceptable range for consumers."
They can't compete with Apple anymore.
Best OS.
Best hardware and software integration.
Most powerful CPUs and GPUs.
Privacy and security built-in.
Seamless integration across all device types (computers/phones/tablets/watches/tv/airpods/tags)
Apple is so far ahead now the competition will never ever catch up.

I went from a 2019 i9 MBP 16 to a M1Max MBP 16 and ended up having to spend $1500 on a Legion Pro gaming laptop so I can still game on the road. If my M1Max could play all the games like my 3070 laptop can, then I wouldn't be lugging an extra 8 lbs when traveling.I have a Windows desktop PC and we use windows laptops at work but am really tempted to buy an Apple Laptop as a main private pc. Are there people here that have a windows gaming pc next to their Apple computers?
Have you seen exploding Dell laptops? My work IT department have kind of firesafes where they put in all the bulging batteries. It guys told me that they get half a dozen every week at my location (200-300 People). Might have changed but that was bad. They should be worried. I haven't seen real innovation on the Windows laptop side in a while. A lot of new laptops are still shipping with low-DPI screens and CPUs that require loud fans to cool them when you do pretty much anything.
Apple Silicon Macbooks are absolutely ground-breaking. I really hope they end up kicking the rest of the industry into innovating again.
New buyers are definitely the most critical concern for them. Because, every macOS laptop sold is potentially locking out a future non-macOS sale. And, that macOS sale could potentially lead to several additional indirect sales (their friends and family). Apple’s sales may never beat other company’s laptops, but Apple may end up in a position, like with Android, where they’re making a large amount of the profits in that market segment. It's not the case that hardware doesn't matter, it's just that for most Mac users the decision of what to buy & use starts with will it run an authorized install of macOS… hard for me to understand these Wintel PC makers worrying about a new Mac laptop model siphoning away their marketshare except where it concerns new or first-time computer users. Once most people get comfortable & fluent on an OS and purchase apps that run on it, they're reluctant to switch unless they are very unhappy.
I can relate. All my tech calls with my sister involved me driving 100 miles to her house, fixing the issue and getting a free dinner as payment. Switched her to an iPad and all I've had to do since is explain how to do a hard restart. My mom is 84. A few years back my brothers bought her a pc laptop so she could stay in touch with family and stuff. After a few months she never used it. Hated it. Windows kept updating. Took forever to get to load. Trackpad was horrible. Different program had different interfaces.
so I bought her an iPad. Loaded it with the important apps. Deleted everything else. Hid All the apps that I couldn’t delete. Set it up for her. Personalized it. Signed into everything. Made sure all password were there. And she loves it. She can just pic it up and press and icon and she taking to peole. Watching shows on Netflix etc. best investment I made for my mom.
You'd think that if people just want to go online and browse the internet, YouTube videos, social media, email, etc., they'd get a tablet or Chromebook and call it a day. Granted I've known some who do do this on Windows and MacOS. More amusing is when they don't use the platform's strengths, like Windows being great for gaming and upgrades, and MacOS for creative types (and they even spend a lot of time on Facebook. So much for privacy!), but, that's the casual user for you! What’s different now than the past 10 years that makes them worry more?
I never thought Intel chips were slouches until I got an M1 mini. I can't imagine what the M2 is bringing to the table.
My guess is that it will. Apple probably is having difficulty sourcing 128GB chips and is using a single 256GB chip in the base model. The Air's target market is probably less concerned about SSD speeds than the 14" Pro market. They should all be worried about Apple. Hopefully the MacBook Air with M2 chip will not have same SSD reduced speed "feature" which Max Tech discovered the base model 13" MacBook Pro M2 has. Apple needs good press for all M2 Mac models, and Apple should not provide a reason for the tech press to bad mouth them, by using a downgraded, slower SSD chip design in their base M2 models.

For just consumption with a bit of social media customers the iPad is all they need.
Zero. No professional will switch to M1 laptop if it does not run Windows period. Also, I have to wonder how many tech industry laptop users are going to switching from Apple back to Wintel when they upgrade their current Apple/Intel laptops because they need the Intel processors to do some of their work.
I wish Intel would make their own version of the M series so PC gaming can hurry up and transition to ARM. Would be great to have a powerful gaming laptop that runs silently and would be even greater if al the great PC games could be ported to Apple's ARM chips.
1500 is high end for regular people. It might not be to you if you like computers, but the majority of people just want a computer that does the job. To them 1500 is a lot of money when you compare it to the $200-500 laptops. Apple doesn’t sell low end computers.$1,000-$1,500 is "high end" in the Wintel world
LoL
PC makers used to worry about the Macbook Air. They still worry, but they used to, too.So now they are starting to get worried!? One can see why Apple moved on from Intel.
M1 runs Windows great in Parallels. The question is whether the application you need to use runs on a SoC computer.Zero. No professional will switch to M1 laptop if it does not run Windows period.
Love me some Mitch Hedberg!!!!PC makers used to worry about the Macbook Air. They still worry, but they used to, too.
Nope. What runs in Parallels is ARM Windows, which is useless for professionals. All professional apps require Windows x86. UTM (QEMU) runs some form of emulation, but it is so sluggish that I would consider it non-working.M1 runs Windows great in Parallels. The question is whether the application you need to use runs on a SoC computer.
