Honestly, I believe that your post is completely backwards. Most of us are allegiant to the Apple product. I want a portless phone. I want car makers to add Qi charging pads to their console array. Is it a dealbreaker of buying a car that doesn't have wireless carplay...not for me? Would I prefer that the car has it, sure. I find that I rarely use the carplay in its current form because of the cabled mess going from my center array to where I put my phone on the other side of my steering wheel. My phone is easier to use mounted magnetically just above and left of my steering wheel.
Why do you want a portless phone?

Apple would be spitting in the face of every one of their customers if they dropped the port and didn't offer a carplay dongle.
Yup. Me included. Carplay was a feature I was looking for when buying a GMC Acadia three years ago. GMC isn't offering any wireless Carplay at the moment. I believe they could implement it on my model with a software update. I would pay south of $100 to have that implemented if possible.

A portless iphone is a dumb idea. Folks aren't going to go buy a new car just because the new iphone has no ports. What's going to happen is that people will pass on the new phone.

The funny part on this site is that some of the usual suspects will opine that is exactly what customers should do....get a new car and will blame the automaker's for not keeping up and adding wireless car play last year.

Curious as to why it’s a dumb idea? It was bound to happen and now is a great time to do it. 99% of users probably never plug their phone in to transfer data. Now I do think MagSafe was poorly implemented but hopefully it improves in the future.

Portless iPhone is a terrible idea, especially now that the magsafe charging is revealed as slow. This would be the bst way to guarantee that poeple who charge their phones and CarPlay users hold on to their current iPhone for 4 or 5 years instead of upgrading.
I use Qi wireless charging dock for the car, which while slower to charge than Lightning cable, it has enough juice to charge the phone while letting me use Maps for navigation. The convenience far outweighs slower charging.

Or I don't know... Maybe buy a Wireless QI charger for the car? I've been using one since the first iPhone that supported Qi came out.
This brings up another problem with portless which is that they charge via induction a method that generally results in heat and heat kills battery which means need devices sooner. "bad for the environment"

But now the loss of chargers makes more sense. They are preparing us for the loss of the cable where they sell you a new phone with no way to charge it and just say - go buy something suckers. And we have to buy some induction charger and they hope it is their 39$ MagSafe plus $20 wall charger and they reduced their costs and get a good group of people to buy $60 worth of stuff. "good for Apple"

Those that want to keep using CarPlay will simply buy an adaptor. Everyone else is already using Bluetooth to stream to their stereo. It's not like it's still the '90s and people are using cassette adaptors.:rolleyes:

Removing the port is bad for so many reasons... travelling - I have a battery pack that I plug into my phone - QI would not work for this at all. Accessories, Square is just one example. Carplay, as has been mentioned - Apple would leave millions out in the cold. Is the port somehow offensive to people? I see no good reason to eliminate the port.

We have 4 vehicles, 3 of them have CarPlay. If the iPhone 13 loses its ports, I'm not going to go out and buy 3 vehicles just so I can have the latest phone.

Apple will not get a sale from me if I lose CarPlay which I've had for 5 years.
You'll be able to buy an adaptor to allow wireless CarPlay or you'll just stop using CarPlay and stream music over Bluetooth like all those that don't use CarPlay.

A portless iPhone would be a negative thing for some iPhone users. I can't speak on percentages, but I'm sure more than a few people sync things manually from their Mac. It would take a really long time to sync vast amounts of of data wirelessly.
I’m one of them. I keep roughly 100gb of photos and videos on my Mac. It’s syncs low res files over which is fine so about 30gb worth. But the time it takes isn’t the issue.... it’s the unreliability. I constantly get issues syncing and have to plug the cable in again.
Same with Xcode. Far to often does Xcode say it can’t see my phone so I have to get the cable out again.

I think the biggest problem will be with non Mac users. How on earth is someone who has a load of large video files on their phone meant to get them over to their laptop without airdrop or a cable? Going to have to wait for it to upload to the cloud first.
My dad has 0.1mb upload speed so he’s going to hate it if it happens.

the port is so in the way and ugly....get rid of it /s. smh

people use the port for much more than charging the phone

None of that has stopped Apple in the past. Why would that change now?

There are wireless battery packs. And the majority of users get through the day without need for such. Apple makes products for the majority of people, not just for the few people that travel. If they cared about the small group of people that needed what you claim, they'd have put larger batteries on the iPhone long ago. Instead, most users get through the day with plenty of battery to spare, and that's the market they're selling to.

Square has long offered a wireless scanner. They'll just have to move to those. Problem solved.

so what is wrong with the port? Isn't fast charging via USB C something apple just started a model or two back? MAGSAFE is 2X slower than wired when charging using apples USB C charging brick.

I'm not opposed to a no port iPhone. I would need a solution for CarPlay. The port takes up room inside the device that can be used for newer tech. Apple has in the past removed hardware that is redundant to wireless solutions. Its going to happen. Apple and the industry has to be ready.

My car is supposed to have CarPlay. It’s never worked and doesn’t even show up. Wired or wireless. 🤷🏼‍♂️

You don't have to buy a new car to convert to wireless carplay. There are lots of dongle adapter on the market search Carlinkit. I have one it works fine wirelessly, doesn't drain that much battery either. lol you guys are really fake news.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re sitting on a faster MagSafe charger but they’re waiting for the next phone to release it so they can say “Wow it charges twice as fast!” And people will buy it
