Simple-- Wireless charging. The iPhone X will be charged wirelessly, so you won't need the stupid lightning port in the first place. You'll be able to charge and use headphones at the same time with this technology, so that issue is erased. I'm assuming they will release some sort of charging hub with close/medium range capability, so you can charge all your iDevices around you without plugging anything in. Wouldn't be surprised if the newest edition Macbook Pro acts as a hub as well. Lightning will probably be reserved for quick boosts/overnight, while the predominance of charging stations will slowly keep your devices topped throughout the day or even longer. What purpose would a headphone jack serve once this technology is available? None really. They're pulling off the bandaid now and biting the bullet, so next year they can introduce this "revolutionary" tech on the 10 year anniversary and get everyone going bananas without feeling the negative effects of a drastic change.
