Hi guys,

Ditto for me too. Bought the 09 Imac with the bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Surprisingly I have no problem with the keyboard. The mouse is entirely another story. It keeps losing connection at least twice a day.

Called the hotline but same ****** adivce, reinstall, update software, restart and monitor the situation...blah blah blah... None of the tech support can offer a solution.

googled around and found t hat this particular problem is widespread and has something to do with the bluetooth firmware in the imac.

Well, at the moment, if the mouse loses connection, i just shut it down and wait for the connection lost message that appears on the imac, then turn it on again. It works well for me. I hope the problem does not morph into something else ...sigh....

Really thinking about abandoning the wireless setup.

It seems to me this problem is to do with the OS. I found that if I have a second mouse connected and the mouse connection drops I use the other (wired) mouse to connect to the bluetooth and go to connect mouse and it starts working straight away... It's not really ideal having an additional mouse connected though. Does anyone know if there is a keyboard shortcut that could somehow get the OS to scan for blutooth things and re-establish connection with the mouse?

A.

called again today and talked to someone who understood me

she knew about the issue, and according to her they think it could be a bad batch of mice. she was probably just guessing, though. i know it's not a bad batch of mice.. this one worked fine on my old 20"

ah well, they're sending me a new mouse with a return label to send this one back anyway

Wireless M Mouse work-around

I have the same problem. If I click the scroll button on the mouse, it re-establishes the connection. Works for me, anyway.

its a freaking joke isnt it!

And it feels like we are NOT heard by apple!

Im still having the issue.. I think im going to order the wired keyboard and mouse next week..

God.. I dont think im a fanboy anymore.. Over this over priced rubbish...

How can we all rally and get apples attention on this issue? because im sure your just as pissed as i am

I have this issue sometimes with my rev A macbook air and BT kb. I am planning to use my BT mighty mouse and KB with my '09 iMac I just ordered. bah! I hope I don't have problems with it

It's a wifi/BT interference

In my point of view, this is a wifi/BT interference!
I have the exact same problem with my MBP unibody, when you have a lot of traffic going on, like backing up with timemachine, the mouse start's to get very jerky until it looses connection.

FWIW, I just had the same problem this morning. However, not with an iMac but a new 2009 mac mini.

The keyboard and mouse worked perfectly fine for months with a previous-generation C2D mac mini. I'm betting it's a software/firmware issue with whatever new bluetooth chipset is being used on these new systems.

I was able to get things going again by hitting the power button to put the mini to sleep, then I disconnected my iPhone (which happened to be connected) to cajole it into awakening again. After a bit, the keyboard and mouse reconnected and all was fine.

Sorry to hear of this problem

I am very sorry to hear that so many people seem to have problems with the wireless mouse and keyboard. I feel very sorry for you all but mostly I feel very sorry for myself, for I have ordered an iMac 24" including wireless keyboard and mouse. Unfortunately I only read these posts after I had ordered, otherwise I probably would have ordered cable connections instead. I wonder if all or a high percentage of users have this problem with the new iMacs, or is it just the odd one. (judging by this and other similar posts on this forum, it certainly looks like a lot of people have this problem) It also really surprises me that Apple is not responding, surely they must be aware that such a problem exists with so many calls to the service centrers. I am new to Apple, so do not know how they operate, but if it is a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing, meaning that if this problem is only known to employees of Apple in the lower echelons of the company and not higher up, then maybe nothing will happen to change the situation. If this problem happens to me with my new iMac which is due to be delivered, and now knowing that this problem exists and no real help seem to be forthcoming from the service department, I would be inclined to make a real fuss by bombarding the management of Apple with emails, complaining about this issue until such time as it is resolved. One pays a premium price for a high quality product and can then rightly expect to get a product that works without problems, and no buts about it. Perhaps you people with this problem should all consider doing just that. Apple will be well advised to listen to you, the customers, they cannot afford in these times to lose current or prospective customers, and issues such as these could quickly tarnish their good name.

Same problem here, new iMac had it 3 or 4 days and the mouse has just 'lost' connection with the IMac 2 or 3 times.
Fixed it by plugging in an (irony alert) Microsoft mouse, disconnecting and reconnecting the bluetooth connection for the so-called mighty mouse. Switching the mouse off and on didn't work so next time I might try taking the batteries out to do a complete mouse 'reset' but self evidently its a software problem in either the iMac or the mouse.

Maybe that's one cause but it seems I have the same problem and I don't have one of those and there are no other bluetooth devices anywhere near my iMac .

I kind of have the same problem too with my wireless mighty mouse. Sometimes, it looses connection and I have to put the computer to sleep and back on again for the mighty mouse to work again. However, I've never had any problems with the wireless keyboard.

got the new mouse they overnighted me.. it hasn't done it yet, but the cursor has disappeared on me a few times. cmd + tab brings it back

I have had a case open about the Bluetooth problems with the Mighty Mouse with Apple since I received my iMac 2009 about 2 weeks ago. I went through the same steps as others on this board, (PRAM, Batteries, turning the mouse on and off, etc..) and none of that worked for me. So Apple decided it was a mouse problem then sent me a replacement wireless Mighty Mouse.

The new mouse did not solve the problem... Seems like if I use the computer for an extended period of time - like over an hour - the MM will lose connectivity and I have to use my 10 year old USB Microsoft mouse to disconnect the MM and reconnect to get the MM working again.

So I called Apple back again and they acknowleged the problem is with the new crop of iMacs and believe it to be a firmware issue. At first they were going to replace my computer then after they talked to engineering, they decided I should wait for a firmware upgrade and check the software updates frequently.

I love my new iMac which is my first Apple, but this is an annoyance I hope Apple fixes soon...

OMG THANKYOU

so what your saying is apple have finally acknowledged there is a problem ..

PUSH out the firmware update and make me happy APPLE!

well, my new mouse started doing it.

i figured it would though

the cmd + tab to finder then cmd + shift +b to bring up bluetooth file exchange trick works for me though

Well I'm on the phone AGAIN now to Apple Australia as I type this

The nice dude isn't acknowledging an issue.... I am on hold........
.......
.......
10mins later

Okay hes back and....."An Apple hardware specialist has said they are currently STILL captureing the issue. If I have a wired keyboard and mouse I should use that (UMMM NO? I dont have one). Please check for updates regularly to see if there is a fix available.

I then replyed time frame? "Hard to say could be weeks or a month"

Hmmm
I feel sad

HEY IDEA! everyone right now.. call APPLE seriosuly and do the same thing I just did.. Maybe might get there arse into gear.. I kept refering back to this forum thread and the offical apple thread lol!
DO IT FOR YOUR FELLO APPLE USER!

...does this issue only happen on :apple: MM's?

I have a Logitech BT V470 that works great with my eeePC and I'm going to setup my iMac this coming weekend as time permits (it is a previous gen though)...

It seems the MM's have lots of problems (connectivity, keeping the scroll ball clean, etc...) are they worth using long term?

As far as i know, only Mighty Mouse. All i've read anyway. Not many seem to be having a problem with the wireless keyboard even. I know my keyboard has been fine since i got it 3 weeks ago or so. Mighty Mouse has been a problem since day one. It doesn't seem to be losing connectivity anymore but it does seem to skip all over the screen randomly. Sometimes even when i have it laying down on my desk, the cursor will randomly start moving all over... blah.

I agree with you as I had the same problem on my old PowerMac G5. After turning off the wifi and use only the ethernet port, the mouse seems to be fine again. I am thinking it's some major interference because it get worse when there is a lot of wireless traffic.

Someone has quoted.. im not sure if its on this forum or apple forum but they still loose connection with the 09 imacs even when the network is running via ethernet.

So i think and even apples pretty much admitted there is a problem with the firmware

WOT! WOT!
Looks like 10.5.7 might fix this problem!

AppleInsider claims:
Mac OS X 10.5.7 to improve Bluetooth compatibility, stability

Although it appeared that Apple was close to wrapping up development of Mac OS X 10.5.7 late last week, a new pre-release distribution of the software was dropped on developers Wednesday afternoon with a handful of additional tweaks added to mix.

Most notably, Apple has included a new round of "Bluetooth compatibility and stability fixes" in the latest beta, labeled Mac OS X 10.5.7 build 9J56, according to people familiar with the software.

A number of recent Mac mini purchasers have complained about intermittent Bluetooth connection problems (1, 2) on their new systems, though similar problems are believed to be plaguing a variety of Macs, with one AppleInsider forum member recently noting that the issue extends back to his first-generation 13-inch MacBook.

Another fix in the latest build targets an issue with Personal File Sharing and AFP volumes not being properly recognized as Time Machine shares. However, the other three fixes were relatively minor, two of which add once-missing descriptive information to certain crash logs.

In total, Mac OS X 10.5.7 stands to deliver over 110 individual code-corrections spanning more than two dozen areas of the system. Earlier this month, Apple added Help Viewer to the list of key software components where beta testers should focus their testing efforts.

Though its believed that Mac OS X 10.5.7 remains close to release, Apple still notes that the software is incompatible with the public beta of Safari 4 -- the OS update's lone known issue.
