Question: I had 2TB shared with my family already (through my ID), but my wife's ID is sharing Apple music and app purchases. I've just upgraded her account to Apple One Premier thinking it would consolidate everything, but the cloud storage is still attached to my account. Can I move family sharing over to her storage (without losing everything) so I can cancel mine? Or am I stuck with both now?

iCloud 2TB - used for :
iPhone backup (mine)
iPhone backup (wife)
iPad Pro backup (mine)
iPad Pro backup (wife)
Mac Pro documents (mine)
MacBook Air (documents (wife)

Dropbox 2TB - used for:
Sending files to clients
Receiving files from clients

It's not for everyone but hey, there's choice.
Why do you have the Dropbox account? You can send files to people through iCloud and easily receive files from people into your iCloud storage. Not sure I understand the need for the extra 2TB dropbox account?

Are you added as a family member under her iCloud family account?

Yes, I'm spending hours on the phone with Apple simply because of this two Apple ID issue. I have been around long enough that I have a non email apple id that has all my purchases associated with it. When iCloud came along it wasn't clear that it wasn't going to be the same (or at least I was confused) so I spawned another ID for that using email. Then for 15 years I've been in this purgatory with two ids. Now with Apple One it made it just that much more confusing because to get the storage space, you need to use the iCloud ID id not the media and purchase one. Confusing and would have been solved in they just allowed merging IDs!

Take a look at this post. It worked for me:

Anyone figure out how to get 4GB when you have a separate iCloud account for personal & for subscriptions?

I had two accounts before family sharing came along (so my wife and I could share the iTunes account, while having separate iCloud accounts).

Now I am the only one in my family that still uses two accounts (and I don't want to stop as I will lose all my in-app purchases).

I signed up for Apple One, and it seems I can't add the extra 2GB (as is mentioned in the MacRumors article).

I'm thinking there are two options that might work.

One is if I got an iOS device, logged into it with my iTunes account only (I tried doing this on my Mac, but it didn't work).

The other option is that I cancel our Apple One plan, and my have my wife sign up. She only has one iCloud account on her phone.

I've been looking forward to increased storage as I want to migrate all my DSLR photos into the "Photos app", but I have 2GB in photos / videos from my DSLR itself. 4GB would be perfect for our family.

Sorry for not reading the previous comments carefully. I see the someone above was able to succeed with my option #1 above. I'll try it and see if I can get it to work.

Apple needs to upgrade their iCloud storage plans, since 2017 they have not updated their plans or offer more storage space.
3 years is a lot of time to keep offering only 2TB and 200GB of space.
They need to offer almost double for the same price.

On my main iCloud account my photos use 2TB and even I am paying more iCloud storage accounts for family members I can't merge their space with mine to have more.

I could use Apple One to have 4TB but the issue is that my main iCloud account is not from the USA, I will have to move all my photos to the USA account and that will not be easy.

If Apple don't solve this issue soon I will have to find another option like Dropbox to send all my photos or videos or I will take a look at Amazon or maybe Google and cancel my iCloud storage accounts.

I really don't understand why Apple has not upgraded the plans or offer more space even if they charge you more.

No I'm the family account organiser and she was added to that with the 2 kids.
You can contact apple support to confirm, but I believe all you need to do is add the One Plan that you want and all your family members would be converted over. I believe what would happen is your wife's music access wouldn't change but it would be through the family plan instead of her plan. You definitely aren't going to lose any data no matter what happens unless you scrub your phone and haven't backed it up.

I’ve had the Dropbox account for years as mentioned to send and receive large files with clients. iCloud storage hasn’t been available in its current incarnation that long.

My post was in response to a previous question.

Apple should just charge $4.99 for each additional 1TB, without any upper limit.
I wonder what the cloud servers' capacity is. And even if they just kept using the money for more, how much space do they have for servers?

the entire idea of combo plans is to offer discounts to people to use many services. if a user only uses one or two services it doesn't make sense to offer discounts... might as well just lower the price of the service at that point. the idea here is to encourage you to use more or ALL apple services and hope that a nice discount encourages you to do that when otherwise you wouldn't get the service at all. i'm an example of a person that apple one causes lost money for apple... i ALREADY had everything so I'm saving a lot of money and they lose that money. what does apple want? people to spend MORE by feeling they are getting a deal.
I'm sure they know the ones who get the bundle even though they paid less before will balance out the ones who already had it all. Just like the winners in a casino are way made up for by the losers.

Are you sure?

I had iCloud storage and then signed up for AppleOne.

When I go into iCloud storage now, it only shows my AppleOne subscription as well as the options to add additional storage to the 2TB provided.

It's explained somewhere how it works for all the combos of One and the original iCloud. I know if you had less than one gives, it kills it, and if they are equal it keeps it. It was a news article. I will try to find it.

I was wrong about equal. Here is the part of the Apple support doc that explains it:

If the iCloud storage included in Apple One is more than your current plan

Your current iCloud storage plan is canceled and you'll receive a pro-rated refund. Your total iCloud storage will be the amount included in your Apple One subscription.

If the iCloud storage included in Apple One is equal to your current plan

During the free trial, you keep both your current iCloud storage plan and the iCloud storage in Apple One. Once the trial is finished, your current iCloud storage plan is canceled. Your total iCloud storage will be the amount included in your Apple One subscription.

If the iCloud storage included in Apple One is less than your current plan

You keep both your current iCloud storage plan and the iCloud storage in Apple One.

Yep...for some reason, I didn't get the free trial...wtf?

i want to sign up to Apple One Family plan @19.95. I still receive Apple TV+ trial and my daughter still has active Apple Music subscription for another month. Is it better to cancel those two subscriptions before buying Apple One or that wont matter?

What they should do is add 5GB to your account every time you activate a new Apple device. See this as a loyalty incentive and a little thank you from Apple.

Apple customers are already loyal without the additional storage.

Frankly, the tiers should be

25GB - Free
250GB - $1
500GB - $3
1TB - $6
2TB - $10

Yes that was my point - the free tier has always been overly cheap from Apple compared to what competitors offer.
The more iCloud is aging, the more it's true. Google Drive for instance has offered 3X the size of iCloud since even before iCloud even existed, for free.

We are a large family with six kids and plenty of devices - two accounts shared bc of 6 account family share limit. We use for iCloud for backup of all iOS devices, photo storage, as well Document Mac folders on various Mac Books. I am at over 1 TB right now growing...

I have the same setup and am having the same problem. The new2TB iCloud storage in Premier is assigned to me and the other family members can't get out of the other old 2TB plan purchased separately and come over to the new premier plan. It's treating me as the sole individual of the Premier 2TB plan and there is no option to bring the other family members over to the new Premier Plan. The only option it gives me is to move back over to the old 2TB family shared plan. I'm still on the free trial though, and when it goes to paid then I will have to call Apple. This is screwed up and not planned out well.

Ridiculously expensive… I still think Apple should have to offer a server option, where you host your own server and it uses Apple to link back to your private network so you can back up to your private network using Apple‘s iCloud.

They should be allowed to charge two dollars a month for this, + the apple computer/hard drive to start it up.

I assume you'll be putting your demands across at the next shareholder meeting?
