12 mini is sturdier. Felt off caseless of at least 4-5 times, some dings in the aluminium frame but nothing else.

Could you provide the documentation?
A lot of third party cases don't fit all that great. Cases trap dust, dirt, just about anything from everyday life and bring it to very close proximity to your phone.

Back when I used to leave a case on for a year or more - I'd take it off at the end of that year and find grime, grit, sand, etc behind the case and just the action of using the phone with the case on caused wear.

Now, of course, having learned from that, I tend to use cases with felt interiors, and cases of higher quality that hug the phone more. Apple's cases do a good job of this too. In my experience, those all plastic cases (inside/out) were the worst when it came to damage to the phone.

I usually prefer high end leather cases with cloth interiors but have been using a Pitaka Air recently as my most used case. I wish I could go nekkid but a 13 pro max in a dry air environment with super dry hands - doesn't work for me.

Just look at the forums. Plenty of people have given their experience on it.
Thanks. I did a search of the MacRumors forums and found only two posts, both in this thread, that claim cases can cause scratching; two posts from other threads that claim that they don’t. Maybe with different search terms I would find a different result? What were the search terms you used?

“Documentation” would be product testing from a known and legitimate source. I did discover in a Google search that dust and other items could get lodged between the case and phone, but the claim here is that the case itself scratches the phone.

There are definitely more than two posts. Pictures even of micro-scratches even with a case.

For what it’s worth I’ve used must be 100 cases over the years and never had any scratches. I’ve used cases from Apple, Spigen, Nomad, Pitaka, Twelve South, ESR, Totalee, Caudabe, Andar, Sheildon, to name but a few. Never had any scratches.

I go caseless at work and home (it's always either on a table or couch), but case on when outside for grippiness.

Face up, I let the camera housing and back glass take the wear and tear and I try to keep the screen impeccable as much as I can.

Last night I dropped my phone for the first time in the 6 months that I've had it.
Even though it was a carpeted floor and probably wouldn't have been damaged anyway, it opened my eyes as to how easy it is for it to get loose from my hand.
Glad for the case!

wow thanks for so man replies, I tend to go face down I am more scared of scratching a lens then the front but seeing some say face up I guess the camera lens' have a good protection to them?

ill try to answer using my logical sense and a few users complaining about micro scratches.unless the case is waterproof then there is a chance dust or dirt will get entrapped between the phone and case. thus causing micro scratches. ive had micro scratches on my Samsung device because of using a case. Not saying that going naked is safer but yeah.jsut my 2 cents.

OK, maybe this is more suitable for you...................The use of a case may result in scrtching, either from the case itself or from debris trapped between the case and the phone. 😀

I really wish I could use my 13 Pro Max naked. It feels so much better in the hand that way but... in dry Southern California it is way too slippery to use this way for most of the year. Also, setting it down anywhere is not as easy when a case is on. When my phone is in my pocket and I'm walking around, without a case, the phone feels like it could slip out fairly easily and is constantly moving all over whereas with a case it kind of sticks and doesn't move much.

I imagine with a Pro or mini caseless is much easier.

… I mean you CAN use it caseless if you want! Realize that the case business is a business first. If it wasn’t for the paranoia of dropping $1K on a glass iPhone, less people would use them (kind of like during the iPhone 6 era or earlier).

When it comes to dry weather (we get winter here), hand lotion gets rid of that problem immediately. The SS band sticks to your hand like glue if you moisturize them.

I agree with this. My statement, however, was directed to a previous post which stated: “Well, they do. It has been well documented all cases cause micro scratches.” I was asking for the documentation referred to.

Please see my reply in post 47 above . . .

I replied before post 47 was posted. But its all about logic and where the user uses their phones. If you work in a dusty environment then yes its easier to get scratches even with a case on.
