The trade in value of my stainless series 5 is enough to make me not upgrade for at least a couple more years.

Be sure to see what you could get for the device on eBay or other resellers, the trade in on my aluminum 4 LTE was about 50% less than what comparable models are selling for on eBay.

That said, this is also, in part, why I have not ever purchased a SS model. The aluminum models have worked so well for myself and immediate family of 4 that I never saw a reason to spend more. I may step out side of my space gray box and order blue this go-around.

On topic, agreed, this has been quite bizarre of a product launch. Which has taken away some of the excitement for myself, as I haven't upgraded since purchasing my aluminum 4 LTE 3 years ago.

They just reference the fact that it’s available in “three amazing materials” and show one of each (aluminum, ss, titanium). I just assume that the colors for those finishes remain the same that are available for the S6.

Same goes for pricing. The starting price is the same as that of the S6 watches, so logic indicates to me that pricing will remain the same for all other configurations. They haven’t added anything to this year’s watch that warrants a price bump.
Except for global inflation

Apple knows what they are doing. They just don’t want to reveal it. They just want you to order all being blindfolded. That 14 days will come in handy.
At this point I’m not even willing of going through the trouble of the return process. If I want to get one I’ll see what real world feedback I see on it and then order it. I don’t care if it comes in January.

I think people grossly overestimate how many AW consumers actually give a hoot about a tech spec sheet. This:

is all most people want to know. Look, I'm a techie just like many of you, but let's be realistic.

I agree that the lack of full pricing info is odd, though.

Personally I don’t see the big deal.
Apple does random website refreshes all the time where they add new products to immediately purchase.
The 16 inch MacBook Pro from 2019 was just introduced via a quick website update, and was immediately available for order.
they introduced the specs, pricing, and made it available all at the same time.
I don’t see why there’s a problem this time

I think they have just started production of the aluminium Watch not long ago and therefore they really can’t share when will the other finishes be available. They don’t give us the price of the other configurations because they may not even be able to let us order them tomorrow.

I doubt that. Not all preorder models will be available on launch day, but you will still be able to order them. Like what happened with the iPhone 12 last year. The Pro Max's didn't laucnh until a few weeks after the regular Pro.

There are 20 hours 24 minutes and 16 seconds left for the reservation of the apple Watch so is all that is important Apple. Times when I wrote this comment.

The issue is, some of us would like to see ahead of time what options, bands, etc we want to get. Not spend 15 minutes figuring it out while the clock is ticking and deliveries start to drop into November.

Very (UK based retailer) has curiously just added 'New' Apple Watch products to their website without labelling them Series 7.

They only have aluminium and I'm suspecting that, given the manufacturing issues, Stainless Steel etc are going to be in short supply.

It is odd, especially no side by side comparison they usually do. I hope the price is the same but I guess we’ll see tomorrow.

Worst case scenario, I still have my series 4 and there are 14 days to return it if I don’t like it 🤷‍♂️

My dumb ass wanted to feel fancy for series 5 so I got the stainless model and while it is very nice I do regret it. I also bought it through AT&T so I literally just paid the last $300 I owe. My only complaint right now is that the battery isn’t lasting as long as I’d like it to. I can’t see upgrading for a minor health feature and a little bigger of a screen though.

The answer to your questions is probably because Apple doesn't know. These watches are probably going to have multi-month ship times pretty quickly. I'll be ordering first thing but I don't expect to see it until November.
I’ve suspected something along these lines is why we don’t have info yet. It’ll be a chaotic pre-order, and the subsequent shipping times are likely to go way out fast. By revealing and promising nothing, everyone will be fighting blind for early ship dates, and making slower decisions. And when most get far-out ship dates, someone internally at Apple will be shrugging about the whole matter. Companies as big as Apple don’t play a game like this by mistake.

I hope the watch isn’t buggy.
Why would it be ?! If anything, it should be the most stable watch Apple has ever released.

It's much harder to implement new health features and APIs than to support a new screen size.

They announced the S7 Watch in a Keynote to the world, so Apple seems this worthy of advanced attention but then shares minimal info on specific model choices. That’s the difference

I have advocated that Apple should really stop doing yearly product announcement events for a couple of years now. It raises expectations too much and makes people crazy. Something like the Apple Watch doesn’t need a yearly event for an upgrade. They could easily have released a marketing video that would circulate on social media and on sites like this to announce the watch and some of the new features.

I’m not saying they should never do announcement events. However, these could easily be done every other year rather than yearly. Take iPhone. IMO, it’s a mistake to make a big deal out of new iPhones every year. It should be every other year with major updates. This would also create a sense of surprise when an “off year” update gives us something a little unexpected.

This is why people are disappointed in this watch update. Imagine if they announced the Apple Watch in an announcement video today for pre-order tomorrow. People would be excited, but expectations would be held in check.

They make way too much money doing it every year, so they won't be changing that.
