Depending on how your package is marked, you might be able to leave an indirect signature form and they can drop it at your door or you can have them hold it. I'm not sure how holding at the depot works for Fed Ex but with ups they need to make and attempt and leave a tag then you can call and have them hold it. I would call fed ex and see what they say about that.

You may be able to pick it up after the truck returns to the distribution center. Other then that, be prepared to be around on the second attempt.

If it's UPS, you might check the options delivering to a Customer Care Center or Access Point (like a UPS store). If you sign up for MyChoice UPS (free) you can make a request to deliver to one of those. Just check their store hours. A CCC should have the phone first thing in the morning. For the Access Point, it depends on when they deliver (the store might know what time it usually is). You'll get a notification when whatever place you choose has it.

I think you can even request a different address, but I'd keep it simple. Less chance for wires to get crossed.

I don't know if there's an option to sign (I always send to my CCC) but with public knowledge of delivery day, I'd be hesitant to leave on door stop.

I'm pretty sure I've printed something from Apple's site that let me sign a form and tape it to my front door to pre authorize the package to be left there.

Sometimes it works; other times it does. These forums are filled with posts of folks who made homemade notes to leave their phones, and the notes were ignored. Too much liability on drivers to risk it. We have this discussion every year.

This. I wouldn't risk my job to leave a package there knowing I need a signature.

Hello all, sorry if this has been discussed previously. I'm scheduled to have my 6s plus delivered Friday. UPS usually gets to my house about 6pm. If I change the delivery option to have it held at the UPS Customer Center will I be able to pick up up Friday morning or will I have to wait an extra day?

It depends on when your phone gets to the UPS location. I typically hold mine at the location that deliveries come out from that way it is ready for pick up first thing in the morning. If you choose a UPS retail location you end up waiting until it is delivered to that location.

It's the distribution center where everything gets processed and sorted. So if that's the case I should be able to drive down there first thing I the morning instead of waiting around my house all day right?

Apple had an official document that you printed from their site. It was a document that they had worked out with UPS. I didn't make some home made note. It was an official document

So, I'm basing this off of last years delivery. Maybe I'm wrong but I see a lot of posts in the carrier threads about people who are just going to sign the print out from apple.com and leave it out for UPS So the driver can leave their iPhones somewhere outside (steps, side door). I live in a very safe neighborhood and fed ex, UPS, USPS have all left packages for me. UPS left a new iMac (no brown box) for me with no problems. Last year, they would leave the iPhone 6 plus as they said too many phones are stolen on launch day since everyone knows they are being delivered that day. When I missed the first delivery, they said I could try and get home for the 2nd attempt or they could hold it at the end of the day at the nearest distributing center. This year, I know I can just change the delivery to the UPS store a town over and pick it up whenever I want to. They wouldn't even deliver last year to my office, since they won't leave the new phone with security or in the mail room, and can't sit around and wait for me to come down to the front.

YMMV

^^^This is what I did especially seeing how I live 4 blocks from the UPS distribution center. I think this is the most smartest, safest and reliable way. I can't tell you how many times I was in my house and the UPS guy would leave the yellow sticker on my door, grrrrrr.

I made no claims as to what you did or did not do. As someone who has been on this forum for several years now and seen several iPhone launches, I'm telling you: it is a rare exception that FedEx or UPS will leave an iPhone at a door without a signature and unattended.

Now, that being said, Apple does have options for pre-signature of deliveries for their products (http://www.apple.com/shop/help/shipping_delivery), but Apple doesn't have final say b/c Apple doesn't shoulder the liability of lost/stolen iPhones, FedEx and UPS do. This seems especially true for iPhones.

Finally, I'm not saying that iPhones have never been left. They have, and notes have sometimes worked; I acknowledged as much in my previous post above. What I am saying is that it isn't the norm and that the couriers have final say, NOT Apple.

Anyone know who's liable if the phone disappears in between the time the driver delivers it and you make it home to pick it up?

C

The courier is, which is why they typically won't leave. If you leave a note, and the package is left, you are responsible.
