Ymmv, but each release we hear of drivers who leave them on doorsteps no matter what. I've had them give it to a receptionist where I worked and I've had them leave an iPad on my doorstep. Fortunately I was at home, but before I got to the door he was gone.

Not all of the thousands of drivers follow regulations or instructions.

I'm pretty sure I've printed something from Apple's site that let me sign a form and tape it to my front door to pre authorize the package to be left there.

Is that not just a major security risk?

Basically saying, theres none home so leave my valuable package its fine.

I would rather wait for my iPhone than tape a note to my door stating no ones in

If it's UPS, you might check the options delivering to a Customer Care Center or Access Point (like a UPS store). If you sign up for MyChoice UPS (free) you can make a request to deliver to one of those. Just check their store hours. A CCC should have the phone first thing in the morning. For the Access Point, it depends on when they deliver (the store might know what time it usually is). You'll get a notification when whatever place you choose has it.

This is really the best bet if you can't be home. It's super simple to do, just sign up for the MyChoice account and download the app to your phone. When UPS gets your shipping info, they notify you. Then you go in to the app and select to hold at a UPS location (store or customer center). This is FREE. You can ship to another address too, but that's $5 and MAY delay delivery.

If you have the package held your customer center (it needs to be the one that handles the current "ship to" address), it will be available early in the morning for pickup. If you have it sent to a store (a store that is on the delivery map of your customer center), then it will be available some time during the day, often in the morning. Just make the change as soon as your shipping info is available and you won't have a delay.

Some of us live in BFE or in gated communities with security cameras though, so the risk is much smaller.

Ah that makes sense, we don't have so much of that in the UK so never thought of it.

Just to add I do have security cameras and live up a private drive, however I still wouldn't feel comfortable with putting a note on the door. But I am funny about things like that

After I placed my order this year, I contacted Apple the next morning and had them switch my shipping address to my work. I didn't want it going anywhere but to me.

if I choose to have my package left at one of these facilities for pickup, will it be available on the 25th?

Just concerned I will push my date out......

A Customer Center is where the packages come in and the delivery trucks go out. You should be good as long as it's the center that normally services your delivery address. I'm also having mine held at my local Customer Center for Friday morning pickup.

I'm lucky to live within a 5 mile driving radius of my local UPS customer center so I always pick up my packages including any Apple products.

During the Apple Watch launch in April, UPS was keeping the shipments in special secured sections as per Apple's request and took longer to retrieve than normal 'Will Call' items. I'm pretty confident all eyes will be on UPS during the first few weeks of this new Apple product roll out.

Yep, I've done this the last two years. I normally go pick up my phone between 9-10am on release day.

What about if I have it shipped to a retail location?

A retail location is not in the typical ground to home route so it would require extra time to process (at least a day, i wouldn't recommend it personally speaking).

If you are by a 'hub' or customer center where shipping is routed to for distribution along the ground route, you'd be able to pick up same day as they receive it provided you put in the request for pickup early enough (before it gets to the customer center).

I have UPS My choice setup (free, you should sign up) so I am constantly monitoring upcoming shipments to my address. I was able to put in a request for pickup as soon as the tracking number came in for the Watch, I'm expecting the same for the 6s.

I just learned that I will be having to work this Friday, so I'm doing a pick up at the UPS Store using the "My Choice" UPS tools.

Has anyone tried this in the past? Will they drop off at the store in the morning? evening?

I have done this in the past and plan on doing it again this Friday. I'm picking mine up at my local UPS Hub so I know it will be there. The only trick is to be there during their rather odd hours.

I've done this before. Drop-off times vary, but it seems like the drivers try to hit the stores and other businesses in the morning and residential in the afternoon/evening, so you will likely see yours delivered to the store earlier rather than later.

I've never had an issue with it.
