Navigation features are joint top of my list for the next version, along with the always on display. I like to have a couple of features to switch between in case I get bored of one.

However I am deep into the always on display rewrite at the moment, and it is going well, so I may release a version with just that and then start on the navigation stuff afterwards. The AOD rewrite will probably take another month or so plus a lot of testing, so the navigation features probably won't be included for a while. Sorry.
This news about AOD is Extremely Exciting !!

AWU in combinaion with WorkOutDoors made me leave Garmin after many years. Have quite a flawless experince indoors with Stryd (treadmill) and Polar H10.

Now to the challenge, When running outdoors during winters I if course have a jacket and gloves and the AWU constantly locks and every time you want to check something you need to put in passcode. Very inconvinient. I know this is security related from Apple but there must be a solution fot this. Or is my only option to turn off wrist detection every time when running or walking and then turn on after the exercise is completed? This is actually a bit of a game changer if so. Hope you guys have a better way of handling this issue?

Thanks!

    on your Apple Watch.
  2. Tap Passcode, then turn Wrist Detection off.

Hello,

Great topic, we learn a lot of things.
I use my Apple Watch ultra in cellular mode without my iPhone when I run.
I'm a bit confused about the correct setting of the “Pace & Distance” function in “current instantaneous Pace”.
What should I use between Pedometer, GPS and Health?

I have set the GPS source for Distance & Average Pace, but also for “current instantaneous Pace”.
Is this a good setting?

Thank you.

As advised, re-syncing the phone and watch Strava settings worked - thank you.

The is a screen shot with the red cross next to the time I was referring to. From memory this area normally shows the symbol relevant to the focus mode I am in (I think) but the red cross appears intermittently and I’m thinking it’s when the cellular connection is lost but would welcome your thoughts 👍

I have never seen that before, and can't see it explained when I Google it, so I don't know what it means. Sorry!

Hi at all,
Do you know why Strava sync the level up and its not the same than the WOD?
Strava automatically correct the up and this morning its less than the WOD 😂😂
Thanks
If you mean the ascent then Strava usually recalculate it themselves from their terrain database, so it can differ from WOD. Also different systems use different smoothing algorithms. It is rare for two systems to show the same value for ascent unless one is deliberately using the values sent to it from the other.

The "target" iPhone is locked by a company policy, that does not allow an iTunes connection.
But the link that you gave also suggests to use iCloud instead of the File Tranfer through iTunes.

However, which files should I copy for the Activities?
The Workouts directory contains the workout files but you may want to copy the files in the settings, routes, schedules etc directories as well.

I am not sure how to do this with phones locked by companies. It is probably best to contact your company's IT support because it will depend on what they are restricting.

The best source for current pace is the pedometer, which is the default. GPS current pace is very erratic and only available for use in case there are problems with the pedometer.

In terms of whether to use GPS or Apple for distance and average pace, there are pros and cons. Apple's distances work anywhere (even in tunnels) but can need calibrating and sometimes don't work for some people.

I recommend using Apple's distances (which are the default) and then calibrating if they are not great, and then only switching to GPS if the calibration does not help.

I test a long time and this settings works best for me. All other settings I tested the Instant pace is jumping about 1 minute every second.

The AOD rewrite will probably take another month or so plus a lot of testing, so the navigation features probably won't be included for a while. Sorry.

Ok, glad I was able to find out potential timeline for AOD implementation. I didn’t want to post yet another instance of such a question. Sounds like potentially by March/April is when it might launch.

On another note, is there documentation of what some of the more “mysterious” fields mean? For example, under Voice Alert for Walking, I’m trying to set some kind of pace verbal notification after ever ½ mile. Under the field of “Pace”, I see the following which I don’t know what they mean:
- Speed (Pedometer)
- Speed (GPS)
- Speed (Health System)
- Pace (Current)
- Pace (Pedometer)
- Pace (GPS)
- Pace (Health System)

I know the difference between speed (distance/time) versus pace (time/distance), but I don’t get what is “health system” versus “current”. I assume, but don’t know for sure, that pedometer might mean either the Watch or a footpod that tracks estimated distance without GPS?

When I have set an outdoor walk (which means using GPS), is the Watch also tracking the estimated distance sans GPS? In other words, are both the GPS sensor and non-GPS distance sensor live?

And sorry if these questions seem rudimentary. They are, even though I bought WOD long ago. I’ve kept mostly with using the native workout app and only once in a while use WOD, but never really customised it until I wanted to yesterday for a long walk.

In terms of AOD I am aiming for a beta in early March, and then a lot of testing because it is such a major change. So May is more likely, and even that is assuming there aren't any major issues. For example I worry that SwiftUI may not be as memory efficient, which may cause stability issues because watchOS kills off apps that use too much memory.

For the speed/pace metrics, you should use Current Speed/Pace. The other metrics are mainly for use when deciding which source to use for the current pace. There are 3 sources of current pace: the Pedometer system, the GPS system and the Health system. So the other metrics are for use when you want to show two or three sources at the same time in order to decide which to use. Although the pedometer is generally the best.

Thanks for the clarification. Perhaps this could be included as part of the User Manual documentation on your website? (Or perhaps I just missed noticing it).

In any case, still unclear to me what “Health System” refers to :)

The app uses Apple's health system, which provides it with lots of information, including the "running pace". However their pedometer system also provides an instantaneous pace, and so does their GPS system. So the app allows you to choose which one of their systems to use.

Sorry that the user guide is not great. I do need to improve it. Not only because it would be helpful for users but also because it would mean less questions for me to answer, and more time for coding!

Hey, I am new to the Apple Watch Ultra and WOD. I am struggling with pairing my Bike sensors (Stages PM on one bike, AXS PM on the other). Both sensors work fine when paired with the manufacturers app on the iPhone. However, neither WOD on the AppleWatch nor the WOD app on my iPhone can detect any sensor. I tried to pair them for the cycling activity and I did follow the hints in the troubleshooting section. But neither device did ever show a bluetooth sensor in its range. Maybe a problem with the latest iOS / watchOS update ?

Ordered an Apple Watch Ultra and saw recommendations for this app and it looks outstanding.

Could anyone tell me if it’s of any use for bicycle riders who are just interested in exploring the wilderness without using their iPhone? I don’t care about laps and fitness as it’s an ebike and it does all the hard work for me.

I don't know about those models but some sensors don't support the standard Bluetooth protocol for "cycling power" or "cycling speed and cadence". Either they have proprietary protocols or, in the case of indoor bikes, use the Fitness Machine profile which the app does not yet support. Sorry about that.

What would you use WOD for then? If you are interested in using the application to keep a record of your "breadcrumb" (where you've been) it can do that without your iPhone, but so can the native workout app.

One thing WOD does which the native workout app doesn't do is give you a live map to show you where you are.

Exploring trails as they aren’t shown on regular Apple Maps and this app looked excellent at displaying in more detail where you are. I guess it’s not what I am looking for then.

Thanks for your help.

I regularly do trail runs and hikes in the hills where I live and use WOD exclusively on the watch for navigation. I had a bunch of fellow runners asking 'what watch is that' when they saw how clear and vibrant the maps where on my wrist. Where I live it definitely has all the trails marked and is way more useful than the standard app.

I use the digital crown to zoom out from where I am and pan about and find it very fluid for getting my bearings.

I have also used the maps to do trail runs with no particular route in mind. The maps keep me oriented and making the turns necessary to stay on track. I like the little maps.

For the pace smoothing slider bar, what are the values for the extremes at the left and right? Is it like far left is no smoothing/instant pace and far right is every 10 minutes? How can I tell where I would like it to be set if I don't know the values? I do think my pace is more erratic than it really is so some smoothing is probably necessary but not sure how much.

Hola!

Firstly what source are you using for current pace? You can see this in the Pace settings under Current Pace. If it is not Pedometer then please change it back to Pedometer. That is usually fine for most people and doesn't require smoothing. GPS in particular is awful.

The smoothing slider does not work in terms of time but instead in terms of values. The maximum smoothing is 10, when the slider is at the right. This makes the app use the average of the last 10 values. When it is at the left then it is the average of the last 1 value, which is basically no smoothing.

As I say, smoothing is usually not necessary if you are using the pedometer.

Hello,

can you add two activities: climbing and indoor climbing?
I know I can use other activities but... :D
