OMG what a terrible video, they obviously tried to be like an Apple ad, but they couldn't have picked a worse actor! and covered in zit's!

Not convinced....

If you really want to take your work with you, you'll just take your LAPTOP.

You won't even have to WAIT for the iPad to sync wirelessly.

If you prefer to take your "LAPTOP", sure fine. That may work best for you.

But I think you missed the point, big time.

There is a solution in there just waiting to see the light of day.

Yep, and I'm pretty sure it involves that 30pin connector at the bottom of the device, which Apple in its infinite wisdom has made all but off-limits.

Which is really great, cause I just happen to have a wireless network to join everywhere I go... really, really sucks.

Hi everybody! Just want to clear a couple things up:

- The video was intentionally over the top, as kind of a spoof.
- Right now Wormhole Remote is focused on local network access only. 3G and over-the-Internet access is a feature planned for the future, and I promise that it will be easy and seamless to use with no firewall configuration necessary.
I thought for sure with the silliness of the video that this was all an April Fool's prank. Nate, you guys need to re-do this thing and take it seriously... or don't be surprised if no one else does.

If this IS real... good luck with your enterprise.

Over 3G

Although I haven't watched the video, and I'm not a software engineer, does anyone with such technical experience know the layman's explanation as to why the connection is currently limited to wifi?

I could imagine that AT&T would be concerned about network throughput over 3G as being the possible explanation, but I don't have the technical expertise.

Thanks in advanced.

AT&T allows it for all the other remote desktop apps, so here's hoping they continue to allow that and allow this one too. I can't imagine this one is much more BW intensive than the other apps?

Too big. Way too heavy. Doesn't fit in my wife's purse. Slower than my Mac Pro. Can't use it while walking between meetings.

If the protocol is solidly secure, I'll just stick (or rent) an XServe (or Mac Server VM) in a hosting facility with a public IP, and access a super-powerful Mac OS X desktop from anywhere I can get fast wifi from something almost smaller than my lab notebook.

Looks a lot like Jaadu. Right down to the "wormhole" image. Not really a ripoff, but it's surprising nonetheless.

Makes perfect sense, given the number of Remote Desktop and VNC apps which are in the top 100 of downloads and revenue rankings in the business and utility categories.

I laughed at everyone looking at the video as devaluing the app.

Just who do you people think you are on this site? Really.

I like the app, but you still have to admit the video was pretty funny.

Well I am admitting the video was funny, I mean it was MEANT to be humorous...but if you read some of the posts at the beginning of the thread it sounds like some people are totally disregarding the product because of the creator's choice of humor instead of "seriousness" which is completely ridiculous.

Some of the people on this site are so high on their horse it's crazy. Maybe because it's a bunch of stuffy 40 year olds...either that or everyone was just trolling?

Such strange vibes from the speaker...

Wow... the video was cheezy. I understand they are making fun of apple's ipad video... but that was awful. It took away from what Nate has been working on.

The reality is that the apple vids are cheesy and finally someone is having a go. Brilliant. Here's to having balls

Nope. Sorry. D. is redundant. I think the choice you were looking for is "A. you have no sense of humor".

So you really can't see the difference between a funny video that sells the product like this:

http://birdhouseapp.com/

...and the Wormhole video which does not do the job it's supposed to?

You think that 'being funny' is the only goal? Its effectiveness as an ad isn't important?

It was perfectly effective, you're talking about it.

Haha, I go many other forums and even /b/ sometimes so I didn't think that those first comments were "trolling" at all. I guess we have different standards.

But yes, it's completely ridiculous to bad-mouth the app just because of the video, ince it was meant to be a parody. I mean, they even used a paper iPad. That does nothing to advertise the app's features.

Only one person mentioned it, but the app, it seems, does not allow access to the Finder.

Big missing piece for any VNC app. Sure, it's slick and I like its implementation, who cares about the video, they had fun with it.

Still - not going to replace a full fledged VNC app (that works from anywhere as well).

Quibble!

There's only one thing that bothers me about Wormhole Remote: it should be named simply "Wormhole".

A wormhole is a shortcut through space time allowing connections over a distance. That's a great metaphor and ought to be the name. "Wormhole Remote" would mean you have remote access to a wormhole; that doesn't make as much sense.

Maybe they'll fix the name in a patch release.

:eek: OMG! They stole my idea!:eek:

I am working on an iPad app that does exactly like this! As a developer, this means WAR!

Seriously, there is no way this is anything other than a spoof. The video was ridiculous, and have you seen the website and twitter feed?

that video is disgusting, why is it they are trying to make an apple ad? they are actually mimicking the John Ives speaking. its a joke.
great products. ruined by a stupid attempt to brand themselves.

That video is hilarious, they do an excellent job of describing their product, while concurrently poking fun at the Apple ads that we all know.

I disagree, you don't actually go through this wormhole, you are controlling your computer on the other side of the wormhole, hence the remote.
