I usually keep my iPhone's for two plus years before I upgrade. It seems every time I'm ready to upgrade, it's in the S years so I'm going from a 5S to a 6S. The 6S is so much better than the 5S. I contemplated getting the 6, but only to save $100. I'm enjoying the 2GB of RAM, the longer battery life, and the 3D Touch, which I didn't think I would use often, on my new 6S. I'm really glad I decided to get the 6S over the 6.

It's a way better phone and you made the right choice. Your 6S will steam along easily for the next two years.

The general rule of thumb for non Mac rumors or cell phone Apple junkies is this

1. If u have a 2 year old 5s than now is the time to upgrade to the 6s/6s plus

2. If you have one year old iphone 6/6 plus it's generally not worth it to upgrade unless u have money to spend or just a iphone junkie.

I have owned every single iphone from day 1. I am a junkie.

It's well known the S upgrades are bigger internal performance gains and the non S are smaller performance gains but they have newer body styles.

Just Apple way of doing things. Just imagine if Apple has put 2gb ram in iphone 6 plus in 2014. The iPad air 2 had 2gb ram. There is no justification for Apple to be cheap with the ram when the iPad was released 6-7 weeks later with 2gb ram.

But this is just Apple way of making sure their is incentive to upgrade in 2015.

But iPad air 2 was so powerful 3 cores and 2gb ram. Apple didnt feel need to upgrade iPad air line for 2015.

And when are they going to make the 32GB the base model? I don't really need 64GB, but that is what I got on my new one. I've heard the price of 16GB to the 32GB is around the same price. Just going on an article I read the other day. Is this accurate?

OP, if you can wait a year, then wait a year

If you cannot wait a year, buy a 6s plus

I buy every single model only because I enjoy the experience that comes with the changes. My experience is that most of the time the "S" models are better than the previous model. So "S" is generally what I prefer even though I keep upgrading. This is the very first S model I didn't buy for myself, but did buy for my wife and daughter. So having both my 6 Plus and my Wife's 6S Plus to compare side by side has been fun.

Much has been made of the speed differences as hyped by Apple and the various web sites. On one hand that's to be expected because the phone is indeed faster. It's also understandable that many owners here often will fight over it, or argue over it, because human nature is to argue what one has just bought is the best.

I'm not saying anything negative, I'm simply saying that in my real world test, the difference between the two is very little. I use every feature, my smartphone is used 12 hours per day for business which involves lots of time with email, the web, researching subjects, watching company videos etc. So I really put the phone through it's paces.

Especially considering I'm constantly multitasking, something that iPhones of any model don't do quickly. The double press of the home key can only be done so fast. It's the weak link in the chain. It's why I prefer Android since they have genuine multitasking that doesn't require one to use an old tech slow mechanical button.

I bought the 6 last year against my better judgment, but I've enjoyed it honestly. I actually said these words to a coworker a few weeks before I bought my 6 "I just refuse to be a phone in 2014 that has only one gig of RAM". I did it anyway. And I was right that I probably should have waiting. I got on the S cycle this year with the intention of staying on the S cycle. I feel like there are way more "-gates" on the number cycles. I always see holdouts on S models. I still see a lot of 5S's around with very happy users.

I'd wait till next year. Apple cannot seriously go yet another year without upgrading the storage on the device, they've gimped the base model at a ridiculous 16GB for four years now. I'd wait till next year to see if they finally get with the times, and stop forcing people to pay $100 extra for $2 more NAND flash storage.

I think Apple have been clever here by 'giving' those who would usually buy the 32GB option double the amount for their money. They're probably hoping that people will get used to the extra storage space and not want to downgrade when 32GB becomes the base option.

Waiting will pay off very well.

Every early and quite credible rumors I've read, whether it comes true or not, is indicating that the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will be restyled and include very significant improvements.

Significant enough that this may the biggest upgrade that Apple has ever done with the iPhone.

My iPhone 6 Plus is ok, but after carefully evaluating the iPhone 6S Plus, there simply wasn't anything of value to me.

I will be buying an iPhone 7 which already has early release rumors swirling around it. :D

Early release? Really? When then?

The 90% graphical speed increase, 70% CPU speed increase, more accurate and super fast finger print ID, and 2 GB ram have made substantial and noticeable improvements in my user experience. This is my experience and opinion going from the 6 Plus to the 6s Plus.

I fully expect the 7 series will make substantial improvements again. At the pace Apple has made to processor speed from 5 to 5s to 6 and now to 6s, I see substantial improvements and gains to each year's phone. Personally I feel that the differences between number series and s series lines is blurring except for the form factor. That we are now carrying a computer in our pocket is remarkable. A phone that can process 4K video movies faster than most desk and lap tops is way crazy.
That 2GB of RAM really makes my day for sure.

Can you tell me why the 6s+ is better then the 6+? How can you see the Extra RAM really makes your day?

What do you use your phones for, checking train times and sending the odd SMS?
The 6S+ absolutely slays the 6+ in real world day to day use, but it does of course depend on what you use it for. Web browsing is unquestionably much, much faster. It is also less crashy. Then there's the 2GB of RAM which keeps apps and browser tabs in memory for those of us who like to multitask.
Also, the lag and freezing has vanished. It's a different phone.

Can you make a photo of the usage RAM WITH The app called smart memory lite?

Keeping multiple apps in memory without having to reload when switching between them. For example on my current 6S+ I can type a forum post, then go play a game, watch a YouTube video and browse other sites and still come back to my post ready to be submitted. On a standard 6+ - opening an extra app would make me lose all my data that I typed because low RAM would purge apps from the Phone memory.

It got so bad that certain very media rich websites would either crash or reload when quickly scrolling through their content. The phone was literally unusable when browsing data heavy sites

Isee, Can you make a photo of the usage RAM WITH The app called smart memory lite?

Ofcourse clear the background apps

6s series of phones are solid. I fully expect either choice to last you at least two years. First time I've felt so strongly about that (though the 5s is also solid in that regsrd).

6 plus I'd like to have used as a paperweight ten minutes after owning it. I have a lumia 920 for a while. It served my needs better.

What's the purpose of closing the bg apps? What are you trying to see? Here is with/without bg apps

I'm new to Apple products (had an iPad for 6 months), but I heard it's always worth skipping a generation because they only add major updates every second model.

Should I buy a 6s, or should I wait until next September for the 7.

I'm basing this on the fact I'd like whatever I buy to still be good enough to last 2 years without the software becoming too slow.

Thank you
You should definitely wait for the 23S, that will be THE phone to get. You'll loose a lot of years you could had enjoyed, but man, it will be worth the wait!

I feel like the 6S series has staying power. Even though I bought a 6 last year, I felt upgrading to a 6S Plus was a worthwhile move to make. Seeing how solid this phone is in build and specs, I plan to now be on the S cycle. I always remind myself that as cool as the 7 might be when it is unveiled, the 7S will be at least "1 louder". :)

The 6S+ is the first iPhone since the i5 where I actually feel that Apple have specced it correctly. They haven't skimped on CPU, GPU or RAM. For heavy users this is a brilliant phone and for all you peeps who keep hold of phones for longer than two years, it's the one to get. It will be like the iPhone 5 in terms of longevity.

So this is from the 6s + ?

What is the first photo? Is almost full? And the second photo is very low mb usage over.
Free RAM is wasted RAM. The more you have, the more will be used. Take a look at a Note 5 or S6 Edge Plus, they have 4GB of RAM and yet most will be used.

True, look at the picture. You see that it has almost use the 2GB RAM.

The main problem with the 6+ for me was the inability to keep apps and browser tabs in memory. The 6S+ doesn't have that problem at all. It is better than every phone on the market for keeping things in memory, other than perhaps the Nexus 6 and 6P.

7 Plus is rumored to get 3GB DRAM. Makes sense since resolution is higher so GPU memory uses more of shared memory and hopefully solves the 6 Plus lag as compared to 6.
