im pretty sure i read the reason for the size is so you can use with one hand and reach any part of the screen

+1

Taller ok, wider I know my wife and most of her friends will stick to the 3.5 form factor.
Any wider is too wide for her comfort level.

I usually don't jump into these threads because they are all opinion based and that's about it. In MY opinion apple would be absolutely foolish not to release a phone with at least a 4" screen at the point. Let's face it, if you have used any other smart phone in the last six months then you should know them iPhone is simple out dated. It's a great phone and works well and always will. I'm sure since the LTE iPad came out the phone will have it as well. And lets face it, for us guys who got the iPhone 4 on launch day has been looking at the same old phone for 3 years now and it's time for a chance. And I'm prett confident there will be. Just give it a few months and there will be a leak, there always is. But if apple is comfortable releasing another phone with a 3.5 inch screen then they better be ready to face the music from customers and reviewers. Look how much crap they got for releasing a 4s and not a redesign. I sure hope they are not that foolish again. And the people that say your happy with the screen size, good for you! You are in the bottom of all polls and believe it or not...apple looks at them. They know Samsung is right there, Htc is also so they better bring something great to the table or the iPhone dominance in MY opinion will be over. It's already turned!

Personally, I would be disappointed if they made the phone bigger. I like the screen size at its current size. It'd be one thing if they introduced a separate model with a larger screen, but don't size the phone out of my reach. As a petite woman with small hands, there's a limit to the screen size of one-handed usability for me.
I imagine the iphone will have a redesign, various upgraded internals, 4G, ios 6, etc.
As for people who think they know what iphone users want, why don't you conduct a real poll? Not a MR poll, but a non-biased, randomized poll of people about screen size on the iphone.
The erroneous presumptions about what iphone users want is starting to grate on my nerves. This isn't the borg collective, so I especially dislike the collective use of "we". We do not necessarily want a 4" iphone or a 7" ipad. Be honest and say you want a 4" iphone or a 7" ipad.
I honestly think the majority of iPhone users want a bigger screen. Thats my stance. And I don't think the phone is too small, it's just wouldnt hurt to go bigger. This Forum may be a very small percentage of ios users, but at the end of the day, it's speaks to what others who are not on this forum may be thinking.

That poll on the screen size has been done on numerous sites and by several news stations, magazines etc. The majority in every poll wants a bigger screen! There is not another high end device with a display this small...period. And there is no way this phone won't have 4g. No possible way. The iPad has it so there is no way they are going to make a 4g iPad and another 3G iPhone! Not gonna happen and in my observations there is no way to make this a 4g phone without a redesign due to the extra room for the battery. Maybe that's why people kep mentioning a new dock or charging port. Maybe it will let the phone charge at a normal rate instead of the slow 4g iPad rate! ;) just a guess though!

It makes it big enough to be cumbersome.

Explain this? did you see the mockup they made last year with the 4" screen compared to a iPhone 4? no bigger and thinner...
maybe going to 4.3 it might be a little too big i still think 4.3 will be fine over that it will get too big. They can increase the size of the screen without increasing the phone much if all.

Days of smaller screen are almost over, so wider screen is almost a business necessity for apple. But knowing apple, they might just do the opposite :p

Yes i would vote for a +4" screen.

I'm currently using an android with a screen that's around 3.6", but I also have small hands. I think it'd be interesting if Apple made 3 models of iPhone to replace the entire lineup:

iPhone air - a superthin, lightweight phone (think size/shape of the iPod Touch). Still 3.5"

iPhone - the regular size - perhaps with a redesign handy. I think they should just offer it in 1 configuration and offer the rest as BTO options to keep things from going crazy

iPhone extreme - large, still high res, with all the other things to blow people away. Since the other models would be perfectly sensible, they could make battery life less important..

IMHO, they really need to consider a touchstone-like inductive charger now that they have wireless syncing. It's loooong overdue.

I also wish they'd consider an optional stylus+digitizer option on the iPad. If they could yank a few more features from WebOS (like carded multitasking or something), that'd be ridiculous and great.

I would be disappointed with a 4 inch screen. I don't need my iPad on my belt.

Honestly I have no idea of why this very specific tie-in of an immediate solution "I have an iPad, therefore the 3.5" iPhone is perfect" mentality came from?

I too have an iPad. Yet I'm also highly mobile & just the type of customer Smartphones were designed for. I *need* a larger display, I use it so much all day, every day.

You've obviously never used a decent 4" phone before and are going on stereotyped generalities. The old Samsung Captivate is 4" and barely larger than the iPhone (I'm talking about an 1/8" per side), plus it has rounded edges so it's more comfortable to hold and pocket. Don't be afraid of the future, it won't bite you.

You can always go Android. That's a beauty of Android ecosystem - all imaginable phone sizes are available.
no troll, that just means Samsung &Motorola throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks. And defer to the carriers way too much. HTC at least admitted they make too many variations and are paring down. I like the fact Apple is in total control of their product. No bloat ware on the phone, no carrier logo on the hardware. As it should be.

What happened to your second hand?

Maybe I dont have another? Nah, just joking; but I use my phone in so many situations that only one hand can suffice. In the world of the multi-tasker having to use two hands to operate a phone is limiting. Examples:

- in bed
- eating/drinking
- flight (shopping, etc) bag in one hand, phone in another

It's cumbersome. How hard is that to get?

I have used 4 inch phones. Had a Captivate for a while from a client, ended up just forwarding the number to my iPhone. Was clunky and useless.

Then go buy one of those android cluster fu$@&.

saying that was pretty vague so i asked why you think that. If it was the same size as the phone now would it be cumbersome? The other phones you've used aren't very similar in size to the 4, 4s?

I've never believed for a second that Apple will make a phone bigger than the current size. I just don't think it's going to happen.

Fake mock ups are vaperware. It will not be the same foot print with a screen that size.

I too have an iPhone and iPad and will take this a step further.

I don't want such a huge reduction in screen size after using my iPad. No, I am not looking for a slightly smaller iPad. But I am wanting an iPhone with a larger screen. I don't know just how much larger, but I am thinking 4" is probably not enough.

With all due modesty, I've had virtually every display size such as: 4.3 / 4.5 / 4.65 / 4.7 / and soon my 4.8" Galaxy S3 will arrive. Each of these have been Androids I've used concurrently with my iPhone 4S, for months on end.

My wife gets my phones once I move on to the next new model, at just 5'2" she has small hands. She only has one line, so we temporarily removed her much loved iPhone 4S just so she could use a phone with a larger screen.

She was quite surprised at how much she liked both the 4.3 & 4.5" phones. She had no issues with a slightly larger overall size. Even though she greatly prefers iOS, she's now of the mind that an iPhone with a display in that range would suit her ideally.

I would be fine with a 4.3" iPhone, if it was 4.5" I'd be thrilled :)

Yeah but not everyone has the leverage Apple has over carriers. Honestly it would be awesome if other cell phone manufacturers could have full control too, but they don't sell well enough for them to be making any demands.

Although I give Apple props for having the balls to dictate that in its terms with AT&T when the iPhone first came out and was unproven.

At this point, a 3.5" screen just doesn't seem to be cutting it for an iPhone, especially when I'm comparing it to my Motorola Electrify. If I use a friend's iPhone, it feels tiny in my hand in comparison - I just love the feel of that bigger screen on the Moto. By no means is the iPhone a bad device, but I feel like changing the screen size is the least they're going to HAVE to do if they're going to keep up.

A case redesign doesn't seem like it would be too big of a deal considering how sleek the current device is already - different materials may make a difference to some people but it's not going to be the deal-maker for someone buying a new iPhone 5. A spec bump is also something half the people won't even know of or care about.
