Just curious (not flaming in any way), but why would you buy an iPhone, and leave it unopened in it's package only to await verification of a hardware upgrade so you can return it? Was it to avoid a possible firmware update in the interim? That's the only logical reason I can think of....

Since I already have an 8 Gig iPhone, I will hold off. I don't need the extra space right now, so I will wait for 2.0, or 3G or something more significant...

The restocking fee if opened.

I think he was wondering why not just wait until after MWSF to buy if you were waiting anyway.

I'm not gonna lie, the anticipation would have done me in if I had an iPhone sitting, waiting for me to open it. :)

I'm not sure. I've been given a 16gb iPod Touch to see if the battery is broken, it isn't so I'll be giving back. But it showed me that 16gb isn't enough for me. I need at least 21gb for music, videos I can live without (which is just as well since I've got 180gb worth of them).

The moment Apple give us a 32gb iPhone is the moment I sell my iPod and get an iPhone. I think.

Yea yea everyone says "just use playlists" and "you won't be listening to all that at once!". And I have been doing for years with my iPod Mini, long enough to realise I need all my music on me! Enough room for all my iPhoto pics would be nice too. Currently taking up 3gb on my iPod.

I just bought an 8 Gig, so a 16 Gig would not excite me " at this time ".

I would love to see a 32 Gig iPhone, then I could dump my 8 Gig iPhone and iPod video.

As it is now I am gonna try to live with 8 Gig as an iPod and thus reduce my device load from 2 to 1.

I've been holding off on a purchase for the last month in hopes of 16GB announcement at macworld. Will buy regardless but 16GB would be perfect, But I can work with 8GB.

With the announcment of the SDK I can see Steve saying some thing like "With all the great programs you'll want to add to your phone, we know you are going to need more storage. So today we are announcing a 16GB iPhone." That would be followed by the normal (x) songs in your pocket comparison of an 8GB and 16GB.

I think if it happens they will keep the 8GB option and offer the 16GB at a higher price.

16GB

No...

3G
MMS
Flash
GPS
Unlocked
3+megapixel
16GB+

YES....

I agree. 3MP camera with an LED flash would be great. I love the quality of the current camera, but it desperately needs a flash and 2MP is not quite enough for editing your photos later, or printing at any decent size. Furthermore I'd like to see if they can improve the shutter lag, I miss a lot of great photos now because of it when you have people and/or animals moving. How about having the option to shoot in 10bpp RAW while you're at it? Ehhh...well I won't hold my breath.

Yep, that's what I was wondering...didn't word it very well...why even bother buying an iPhone in the first place if you're just going to leave it in the box awaiting some unknown hardware update?

I think it's best to wait for 3G. A memory upgrade isn't enough to buy a second iphone in less than year.

No, but 3G will

There is a chance that Apple MAY bring out an increased capacity iPhone 16GB for Macworld.

Apparently an increase in memory will NOT need FCC approval (and maybe not CE approval in Europe) and so it is a distinct possibility.

Given that we are definately going to see a new 3G iPhone in 2008 at some point how many of you here would be prepared to purchase another iPhone just for its increased capacity? (I want to clarify here - it is exactly the same as the current model except it has more memory - so not an "actual" update).

If like me you are in the UK then we are talking about only getting the iPhone a few months ago and god knows how the French would feel having had it for even less...

So would you buy one or not? and of course what would you do with the existing iPhone you have if you did?

my biggest problem is not space at this point, a lot of the apps that are out there I would never download anyway because I do not have much use for them. 3G will send me running to the stores however, I went from sprint to ATT edge and what a downgrade that was.

No way. To me the iPod features of the current iPhone are not very good (I want real buttons, not a touch i/f), so I don't use it that way. Without the need for the iPod features, I certainly have no need for the extra memory. I would however consider an iPhone without the iPod features if it were cheap enough, and just use a separate iPod (NOT touch) for music.

3G and bigger size is definitely not something to rush out and replace for. Unless you live near major cities, 3G is nonexistent. Not to mention EDGE is quite fast enough. Just look at the results from inetworktest.com. 211kbps EDGE, 738kbps Wireless. Even if 3G exceeded wireless speeds, is 3 times faster even something to get all bothered about? And 8 more GB? Wow. It would have to be some seriously fantastic to make me run out and spend another $400.

16g NO...not in less then 18 months. Could care less about 3G, I think WiMax will overtake 3G and it will become mute in the very near future. GPS could care less about with the possible upgrade of Google Maps and/or an external GPS dongle.

For me to change it would have to be a 32 gig or 16 gig w/SD Slot. A flash/pixel upgrade for the camera, A rubberized edge on the case and Stereo Bluetooth compatability. The rest is all upgradable with software. Also will not change out until my current is a minimum 18 months old.

I dont think anything will make me want to run out and get a new one just yet. I like mine the way it is and opposite to what some think, I like the iPod features of the iPhone and find them very easy to use. If a newer version is announced I am sure I will wait for about a year to get a newer version. Unless of course there is something so mind blowing that I have not thought about.

When do we find out the "results" of MacWorld?

Jan 15th? It's like a 3 day event though, right?

I want an iPhone pretty bad - I can't get enough of the iPod touch I got for my birthday and simply want to complete the experience - but a 16GB phone would be the minimum changes I'd need to take the leap.

I'd need stuff like MMS and perhaps a better camera. I'd like 3G or WiMax or whatever technology would give better data rates; I have that on any relatively new Nokia phone.

The big thing to swallow would be to know that I will be getting the shaft from AT&T. Of course, T-Mobile have proven themselves not to be any better, and I already have plenty of experience, so at least I know what I'm getting into.

No.

Before I get an iPhone (and I would like one) - the following have to happen

MMS sorted out
Video recording
Better camera (it's 'OK', but simply not good enough)
3G (EDGE coverage in the UK is simply not good enough)
Available without contract
See the results of the SDK - live streaming RM/WM feeds.
AND 16 gig.

It's one of the boxes that needs to be ticked. Other people may not share what I would like to see in the iPhone - that's fine - but before I buy one, it has to come much further along the development process.
