Luxury? No.

Premium? Perhaps, based on the price point (non contract) compared to other smart phones in general.

Its funny to me when people place their iPhones on the table in public places so everyone can see they've got the latest. You don't see that with Android phones really. "Starbucks crowd" anyone?

What's wrong with leaving them on a table when they need to be assessed regularly? They are not going anywhere yet. Why put them back in the pockets/purses only to take them out later?

What if it is a tablet, instead of a phone, that we are talking about? Would it be more natural to see them on left out tables? What if it is a book? a wallet? Still should by hidden actually unless being used?

An iPhone is a $650 small computer.

Premium/want item yes, especially considering much lower cost options on the market.
Status symbol of anything luxury, no.

There really aren't any 'status symbols' in the smartphone market. They are all just different levels of utilitarian. None are ridiculously expensive or exclusive.

They might be expensive, but there's a big downside:

"TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Android™ 4.4 (KitKat)"

Cause android......amirite???

Trying to act like one cell phone is better than another is just silly. It is no different than a pair of Nike tennis shoes. It is asian sweatshop mass produced at the tightest profit lines possible to fuel a marketing campaign to make you feel special.

Everyone and their grandma has an iphone, it is not luxury or special. It will be outdated in a year and will be unusable within 4. You are not special for owning one. It is a piece of metal with a function, it shouldn't make you feel better.

**Edit only targeting iphones here because this thread is beyond silly. I would say the same if some Samsung owner was trying to say their phone was "luxury".

In my eyes, and from observation it seems las if the iPhone is the industry standard for not just a majority of celebrities, but for young adults and teens like myself. It's always a iPhone in movies, games etc. And I believe just good looking people general as well. When was the last party or bar you been to an seen a attractive lady with a Samsung or something similar? For me it's been a year and a half and that's probably because most females (and in groups) have iPhones...

An iPhone isn't going to solve your issues, sorry...

Neither is a Beemer.

Sorry shouldn't have replied to you, just the thread in general....knew your response was tongue-in-cheek. I hope most of the responses here are as well, but you never know. Macrumors is quite the entitled group.

I think you got the 1and 4 year things wrong there. I doubt the iPhone 6 will be outdated in a year, it'll be relevant even when the 6S comes out. I also see a lot of iPhone 4's about too they are 4 years old. I appreciate you were probably exaggerating though lol :)

I think it's funny when people see your phone on a table and assume you've put it there to show off lol. How many people have iPhones these days? It's not exactly a Ferrari ;)

Yes? People really are responding 'yes' to this?

Luxury, people. Luxury. Makes you have to think four or five times about buying it before you do (for most people). Like $950 Prada loafers. $1800 Moncler coats, Roy denim jeans.

Yes because it costs a lot more than the minimum national wage. Yet many people buy them in my country.

I think so. People will argue about it but heres how I see it. iPhone is like a well established luxury car company, and some of the newer companies are like Hyundai's latest attempts at creating a high class luxury vehicle, good but not the real original deal....I don't think Apple is the only one at the top though but thats my comparison.

Think 4 or 5 times before buying? Well I suppose that depends on how much money you make :p

I've seen people order 5 in one day purchased on an app while at lunch :/

Especially the Iphone 6 series. It feels like a Bmw 6 series. Lmao. In my eyes, and from observation it seems las if the iPhone is the industry standard for not just a majority of celebrities, but for young adults and teens like myself. For me it's been a year and a half and that's probably because most females (and in groups) have iPhones. I think it's because it's just a premium piece of material in general. I had Galaxy s3 and a metro lg before my 6. I can honestly you get what you pay for lol. And it definitely proves it when it comes to resale time ahaha. What do guys think I am keen to hear what you think. Luxury is "forward thinking".

I'm a movie person and I go to the theaters a lot. I actually haven't really seen the iPhone in many movies compared to other brands. Usually it's a cutting edge Android phone or Windows phone. A recent example is Captain America: The Winter Soldier, in which Nick Fury uses an HTC One (not sure if M8 or M7) in the apartment scene with Steve Rogers.

I think it depends on how you use your phone. If having a smart phone is a necessity for the work you do, then the iPhone is just a premium product. If it isn't required for what you do, then getting one is indeed a luxury purchase.
