Would you consider a Iphone 6 a "Luxury" smart-phone?

You need to have comparison. Price vs value. I feel iPhone 4, 4s and 5 is still reasonable in term of price. But 5s, 6/6+ is really out of mind. They are sold for about usd 1,250 in my country (Indonesia). With about the same price you can buy good motorcycles or iMac.

An iPhone alone does not constitute a luxury item per se, but a whole suite of Apple products (iPhone + iPad + Mac + Apple watch) could.

Let's face it, it doesn't take much to get an iPhone these days, or even an iPad. In the UK you can get both on contract and pay nothing up front for the device. You can even get macs on finance now. However, owning all those devices requires a level of financial security that you might stereotypically associate with "well off" people.

You don't have to be a millionaire, but you do need enough disposable income to afford the monthly or one-off price tag of each and still have money left to live.

Basically, I'm trying to say that you can buy a smartphone, a non-Apple tablet, a windows laptop and a Casio watch for relatively cheap, but you can't buy a brand new iPhone, an iPad, a Mac and an Apple watch for a combined cost of less than 3 figures. You'd be lucky to get them all for less than £2000 to be fair.

As a rule of thumb I generally don't care for people who care about such things.

Typed on my iPhone 6 [I'm better than you] "Lmao", "lol", "ahahaha".

Pretty sure most women have iphones just because they're simpler to use. Same reason why first smartphone users go with iphones.

A lot of people seem to think android phones are like a different language just because they're a different operating system.

Lol...To me luxury is defined by exclusivity.

Like my $250,000 Patek Phillipe Grand Complication. A common man cannot own this and it is way to complicated to make a fake. Or my $400,000 Bentley Arnage. Or my $10MM Learjet.

I noticed my gardener, maid, and cook all have 6+'s. Well, if common peasants can afford this, then it is not true luxury. Is it? It saddens me that there is no way for me to distinguish myself from the common trash when it comes to smartphones.

Every hipster in Portland Oregon must be living the life of luxury then.

So the question isn't whether we think iPhones are luxury goods, but rather if we agree that it is the phone of choice for the rich, young or attractive?

Surely OP you are not saying that iPhone owners are shallow? Or that only people who fit into one (or more!) of the above categories can appreciate the aluminium build or curved glass of an iPhone?

Also a BMW 760Li? Seriously? Of the ENTIRE BMW lineup, that's the car you choose to champion?

Granted, it's not as bad an X6 (which is reserved for ********s with popped collars who wear sunglasses in winter), but it just makes me...sad.

if u can afford it, it's not a "luxury" to u.

.the end. end of case. why does the OP even bother to ask such a ridiculous q.

In response to the x6 comment (my phone some reason can't quote at the moment.)

Of course a e66 is not my favorite Bimmer lmao. I thought it sounded better. I'm a e39 ///m5 and a e38 type guy. German v8s only #

(This is not directly towards you but a respone to numerous others as well)
In my eyes, as someone mentioned, Apple is like a well established luxury car company. Yes it's mass produced but so is your depriciating 08' Benz S550 or 3 series made in a 2nd/3rd world country in some cases. Luxury, in a sense can be about exclusivity, but true luxury is something that is sleek, comfterable, eye catching and premium/expensive. Yes it can be obtained by many of us. But that does not mean it's not luxury just because it's easy to obtain. For example, on Craigslist you can buy a 2001 Bmw 7 series limousine for less than 5 grand and it would have more luxurious features than a new Camry or Accord would have standard. Anyone can go get a nice old German luxury car off craigi for a few g's and people will believe you spent more than you actually did. So let's not act like you have be a rich boy to obtain luxury. You just have to have good taste. There's a reason you gotpeople like Chris Brown and Diddy having great gold iPhones. It's a luxury phone made by a respectable company that was known to make premium high end products. Is the groupie of hot Bimbos at the bar gonna go home with the meathead in his new 14' Camry w/ cool air intake or the gentleman in his 01 e38 7 series? Or e39 ///m5 #

Especially the Iphone 6 series. It feels like a Bmw 6 series. Lmao. In my eyes, and from observation it seems las if the iPhone is the industry standard for not just a majority of celebrities, but for young adults and teens like myself. It's always a iPhone in movies, games etc. And I believe just good looking people general as well. When was the last party or bar you been to an seen a attractive lady with a Samsung or something similar? For me it's been a year and a half and that's probably because most females (and in groups) have iPhones. I think it's because it's just a premium piece of material in general. I had Galaxy s3 and a metro lg before my 6. I can honestly you get what you pay for lol. And it definitely proves it when it comes to resale time ahaha. What do guys think I am keen to hear what you think. Luxury is "forward thinking".

It's a phone.

It was more of a "luxury" item circa 2007 when you didn't see everyone and their grandma carrying one.

That said, I still use and enjoy iPhones, but I really don't think I'm buying anything luxurious (in a first world sense) when I buy one.

I just think I don't care for Android and most (not all, though) choices of phones that run it do not interest me. It's not because my girl brain is too confused by Big Old Android OS. ;)

Apple is now the de facto luxury brand of sorts when it comes to phones. Previously, we had like the Nokia N series, E series communicator and Vertu. All of those are now virtually non-existent. Only Vertu clings to life. If defining a luxury phone brand you just have to look at which phone most of the rich are carrying all over the world. The answer to that is the iphone.

Also since this has become a two OS race i.e. Android vs. ios I do not suspect there will be any true luxury phone maker aside from Apple in the near future.

Old guy here...

Anything more than a landline phone or a disposable track phone is a luxury.

Aren't there really just two camps of luxury and necessity?

Lol, funny thread! Well, I feel like a million bucks with my "vintage" Blackberry device.

I think a computerized phone like iPhone is required in business these days. Though I have read an article that states another way to go is with an iPad and a flip phone.

Troll account

Jesus, this is a legit thread. Everyone here is mature and putting in insightful responses. If you have nothing positive to say, then please simply leave.

On topic: I think a 6 series is a luxury phone to a degree. If you think about it, Audi, Benz, And Bmw heavily promote Iphone compatibility. Have you seen Bmw and similar high end car companies work with Samsung? I thought so.

Same goes to Pioneer.

its not a luxury, but in my opinion its the only cellphone to have,if you cant afford iphone just dont have anything.

When I see minimum wage workers at Mcdonald, cashiers at supermarket, etc. all have iphones. I don't think it is luxury.
