Because if it does follow the tradition as you say, I think Apple will be in a bad position. Another year of a 3.5" display?! I agree that the 4.3" androids are excessive but a 3.7 or 4" on the next iPhone is a must.

the 3.7" and 4" on the Incredible & Incredible 2 respectively , are the perfect size screens IMHO. However, i don't want the iphone getting any wider, longer, or thicker. If they filled up the borders and made the screen bigger like the incredible 2 than i would be fine/happy with a 3.7 or 4". However, 3.5" is perfectly fine too.

I might look at getting a cheap iPhone 4 from Kijiji because of how the 3Gs isn't getting iOS 5.

I'll probably convert it white too. :D

But nah, I probably won't buy the next version of the iPhone until a year or more after its release, I'm thrifty that way. :p

Nope. I'm going over to the dark side (Android) for one year. My wife will be going from the 3GS to the iPhone 4s or whatever it will be called.

Seriously thinking about the HTC Holiday behemoth coming to AT&T.

i've owned the first three iphones, and found that the move from a 3g to a 3gs was the most productive.

I find that new features take at least six months for app makers to effectively utilize, and so i feel a phone that has a bunch of new features spends about six months waiting to take advantage of the new features (like compass, gps, etc).

however a phone with a big jump in speed takes advantage of it right away. likewise for a phone on a faster network...

... so if another iphone comes out after the next release in 2012 on a much faster network, i might actually keep my 3gs until then. frankly, it still works pretty much just fine! i'm hardly miss anything from the iphone 4.

r.

Like so many previous posters it will depend on what iOS 5 and the iPhone 5 have to offer. That being said, my boyfriend hates his android phone so I may upgrade and give him my iPhone 4:D

Also, I would seriously consider upgrading just for the dual core processor, new camera and new white option to match my iPad. Let's face it, I always do this with apple products... I say I'm not going to upgrade until the new device is announced and then it quickly reverses:) my family is littered with my previous apple products... Recycling is good for everyone.. There is no way my parents or sister would have purchased iPhones on their own accord but now that they have them they are not sure how they ever lived without them and even upgraded to Mac laptops when they were in need after such a good experience with iOS devices!

Reading more about the next gen "Mango" update for Windows Phone, I might be switching from my EVO 4G, to a Windows Phone-8 this Fall. Microsoft looks to be taken a fresh and cool approach to the smartphone, it looks very exciting, where as Apple and Android feel ho hum, same old same old lately. Android has become rather stale to me lately, and the iPhone is now from the stone age, outdated, mainly the iOS software feels like from a Razor dumb phone now, or Fischer Price toy.

And with the new "Mango" release, HTC and Samsung have some killer hardware coming, so I am holding off on buying a new phone, until I see a Mango phone in person

Of course there are others who disagree, this is a community forum afterall. I would be shocked and disappointed if there were no alternate opinions.

To clarify, when I said most of "us", I was speaking for iPhone users as a whole, not just those who are on this site. I would be willing to concede that there are probably just as many people on MacRumors forums that want a bigger screen as there are people who like the 3.5 inch screen. But this is not representative of iPhone users in general. As we all know, most people who use iPhones don't come here, are not spec whores, and could care less about a bigger screen. So for that demographic, I again say that most of "us" are content with and actually prefer the portability of an iphone with a 3.5 inch screen.

Honestly, probably not. It will have to be an excellent design change for me to buy it. And if iOS 5 doesn't change it up a little, I am considering buying a WP7 off contract to play around with. I love my Apple products, but I need a visual refresh.

Here here! I totally agree, 3.5" is perfect for me. I wouldn't want the iPhone to get larger in any dimension. Plus, it's not like a really use my phone for watching movies, I have like 3 other devices for that. I just want a nice, pleasant, usable phone that doesn't make people say, "Is that your phone in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

The upgrade was similar in evolution as 3G to 3GS?

http://www.redmondpie.com/apples-ne...tt-mobile-support-a5-similar-external-design/

If rumours are true, I will be disappointed to say the least. Screen size desperately needs attention. Apple will really be playing catch up if they maintain the same design for another year.

I would. The 3GS was only similar to the 3G physically. Internally it recieved a pretty significant overhaul. IMO the iPhone 4's design is fine. If they kept it the same externally, but added the A5 CPU, HSPA+, an improved camera (perhaps w/ optical zoom), and bumped the capacity to 64GB, I'd be more than happy.

Considering the next iPhone will be my first one then yes, I'll purchase it regardless of the spec upgrades.

I used to think bigger is better. I wanted a monster 4.3" screen. Then I actually saw the EVO, and I gotta say the iPhone looks and feels way more phone-like. I'm not sure I'd be too happy with a phone that big.

I have the original DROID and will look closely at the next iPhone. The mrs recently ditched a blackberry for the IP4. She loves it and will likely keep it for at least 2 years.

I know I can be happy using an iPhone or another android os phone. That said I think iOS5 is what will sell me (or not) more than new hardware. Notifications have to improve, and I think there is a need for more customization options. Mapping features and voice control/input are way behind. Any improvement to MobileMe is needed.

New hardware won't hurt of course. IP4 is very nice, but like many I would like a larger screen (4in is about perfect), and a CDMA+GSM phone on Verizon would be perfect. Dual core, more mem, better camera ... I won't complain. LTE would be great if I lived somewhere with LTE. I don't.

If a new iPhone is really delayed until fall, I will hold off and give Ice Cream Sandwich a good look. A Nexus phone on Verizon wouldn't hurt either.

I'm hoping for a 3.7" to 4" screen size increase. I'm getting a bit annoyed by the side bezels.

No. I have pretty much decided that I am going give an Android a try this summer. Probably going to sell my iPhone 4 sometime next month mainly because I am switching from AT&T to Verizon. I have purchased every single iPhone so far so I think I will give the competition a try. I am all about jailbreaking so I will how I like a truly open system. LTE is also a major sticking point for me since I live in city the availability right now.

Use case depending. How often are you not around wifi. Even if I had 4g, I would use it for short periods in the day. I didn't have 3g until now. I rarely use it, except when on the road. Even then, I am driving. At home, I got my wifi and at work, too. 4g would be cool, but the cost!! Cost may equal to shorter battery life, extra fee a month, and low return in usage.

For me, I want more storage. Want at least 64gb. iOS 5.0 will be enough for me aside from more storage.

This "argument" is not a valid or good one; it is just a very strange one. I firmly believe that most iPhone users want a somewhat bigger screen.

I will be purchasing the next iPhone definitely. I will be retiring my 3GS and I hope the new one will have if it had only 1 update it be 64GB or more option. The rest I'm happy with what's already on iPhone 4.
