I'll probably consider Android once they allow you to use stock Android and are able to upgrade when Google releases a new version.

If rumours are true, I will be disappointed to say the least. Screen size desperately needs attention. Apple will really be playing catch up if they maintain the same design for another year.

Apple is already behind and needs to catch up. iOS is outdated and the tiny 3.5 inch screen need Apple's attention ASAP.

As long as the phone doesn't get any bigger, I don't really care about having a bigger screen. If the actual phone gets bigger... that could actually bring me away from the iPhone. I love how the iPhone 4 is decently small compared to some of the other competitor devices. I use mine as a phone, not a TV.

I use my iPhone more than my laptop and TV combined so a larger screen at whatever cost is fine with me.

3.5 inch screen was amazing for 2007, it's time to move on.

i went from slow as butt 3G to the IP4. I've had my IP4 since last august and still like it very much. If the 5 (or 4S) comes out and is just a minor spec bump...Nah i'll wait for the version after that and use my upgrade for it. Also with the IP4 I should be able to take full advantage of the next big iOS so i Dont really see the point in buying the 5 (4S).

The upgrade was similar in evolution as 3G to 3GS?

Yes.

One, I've had my 3GS for almost two years and I've got a full upgrade ready. Two, I avoided the issues the iPhone 3G had and the issues the iPhone 4 had.

You'd think it was some sort of bloody invasion these past few days. Most of their posts also read like product brochures for the SGS2 which is fast becoming tedious.

I wonder if any of those people are new and if so, I wonder if they are getting paid?

I've heard of companies paying people to go on forums and tout their products (act like normal posters who are impressed with the product).

Anyways, on topic, no I won't. But I wouldn't get the new iphone this year even if it was a drastic upgrade cause my contract is not up and I'll wait til I can get a subsidy from AT&T.

The 3GS was a huge upgrade to the 3G. So if the iPhone 5 followed that path, it would upgrade:
-Camera
-Processor
-Ram
-GPU
-Storage size
-Battery
In fact the only thing that would remain the same would be the physical appearance. In this case I assume the only people who would look elsewhere would be those who want a larger display.

I've been complaining about giving the iPhone a bigger screen for a while. However, since I got my iPad I couldn't care less. 3.5" is fine considering how little I use it now.

yes, I will be getting an iPhone 5. mostly because Verizon got the iPhone so late after the 4 was initially released and I'd rather wait and get a better spec'd phone than have a flashy white color. (which I would most likely be able to get on the 5 anyway)

So, you just bought it for the name, not the functionality. That's a very expensive device just to use it as a phone.

that's exactly what I did. I grew tired of waiting on apple to catch up with the rest of the market. Not that a 4" screen would even compare to an iPad, but 3.5" has just become unbearable. This is also why I haven't upgraded to the ip4, even though I've played around with them plenty.

I suppose you can only be talking about the... oh, wait - there's hundreds of Android devices, so...

I think my point is made, and you do kinda sound like a fanboy, even if you don't intend to.

I switched to Android for a while, and I had several different phones...HTC, Samsung, and Motorola (with 2 different service providers). The ONLY advantage that I see Android having is that it supports flash, and I haven't missed flash one bit since switching back to my iPhone.

Trying to use Facebook on Android was a nightmare. Half of the links wouldn't even pull up. The Android market for apps has nothing on the Apple App Store. Nothing. Almost everything was buggy with Droid to me. Sometimes things would work like they were supposed to, but everything never worked right at the same time.

I couldn't be paid to switch back to Android.

You're making a wise decision, one that will really pay off. I
Love my Android phones on Verizon. Its been a great experience and its only getting better. Android is really doing some great things, and lots more is ahead in the coming few months.

Congratulations on your great choice.

Yes Android is doing some great things. Now the hardware has been an issue for me. A couple devices coming out look to be great but then we will have to see how well the software and hardware work together.

Had a go on SG2 today. Has some nice features but what you say above is true. Also the UI I find, is really ugly in terms of the app icons.

I've been on a 3GS since it launched in June 2009, so yes I'm eagerly awaiting this year's model, be it the iPhone 4S or iPhone 5. I'll be looking to upgrade regardless, after having waited the entire duration of my contract from when I got the 3GS.

As far as LTE goes, I know it's going to become the standard within the next couple years. But I'm also pretty confident that no carrier is going to offer any unlimited LTE plan. That said, I would much rather keep my unlimited plan for 3G data that I have with AT&T, than to go to a tiered LTE plan. 3G has been fine for me here in MI, and it fits my needs just perfectly for where I live and work at.

Nahh if its just a spec bump al la 3Gs I'll proudly keep my IP4. As for Android, none catch my eye. I recently played with my buddy's Galaxy(whatever) although nice it wasn't very smooth at all, it felt like the whole phone operated in a glitchy kinda way i dunno. I'm content with what I have. I'll just get a first gen ipad off CL if I want a bigger screen.

"just a spec bump"

So a major upgrade is when the externals are completely changed and the internals are about the same? Where's the logic behind that? Don't judge a book by it's cover.

Every iPhone hardware upgrade was major, and had their own specializations.

3G emphasized on the 3G network
3GS emphasized on Speed, and damn it's fast it can run iOS 4.0!
4 emphasized on the biggest leap since the original, HD display, video chat etc.

Therefore, the 5 will also have it's own perks. Apple won't come out with an iPhone 4S running iOS 5. That's absurd.
We barely know anything about the iPhone 5 yet. Calling it the iPhone 4S would mean saying the iPhone 4 is slow.. is it slow? No, but the iPhone 3G was clearly slow.

Here's hoping for a bigger screen, 3.7" to 4" in the same form factor.

I've had an android phone. And if you want a buggy, slow, built with bad quality - by all means you'll love the phone.

But I'm so glad Verizon has the iPhone now. I despised my android. They never update the OS's like Apple does. It may release on one android, but wont make it to yours in 6 months. Which, is useless.

Complete opposite for me. My Brother and I both owned iPhone3G's, and had major issues, it would just lock up, press the text icon and wait 5 seconds for it to open, get super laggy, etc...we were not jailbreaked or anything.

We both moved to the EVO 4G, and the phone is warp speed faster and smoother. Plus once rooted with a quality stable ROM, it is even better. My phone has not locked up, or had any issues whatsoever since I installed my ROM last year, runs perfect.

And the 3.5" wristwatch size screen on the iPhone is so outdated, way too small. They should at least update to 4". I am open minded to the iPhone5, if they at least make the screen slightly bigger, and add Notification system, and Widgets.

I have also noticed that about all these threads we are getting. I wonder if they are Trolls (fanatics) or Spammers (paid for). There are lots of Android phones, but almost all the spam is for the SG2...

I wish VulchR idea about a separate area for other phones had been more popular.

As for the original question: I'm going to keep my iPhone 4, does not matter what the next one offers. I won't update until my contract expires. Getting and unsubsidized phone is too expensive.

I had a Verizon HTC [Sense I think?, it was a work issues device]. Android on it. For me, it was a terrible experience. Buggy, Laggy, and the apps were horrible. That was about 5 months ago. I'm sure some things have gotten better, or maybe not. But for me, Android was a terrible experience.

I'll stick with iOS for the foreseeable future, but keep an eye on Android.
