If you are seriously that concerned with it go exchange it. It'll bother you forever

Maybe see if they have any more that are higher spec'd to try and get the same screen.

so you'd return it also? I would want same specs 8/256, don't need more and don't want to pay more.

Well, unfortunately I think you'll never have a perfect panel. I exchanged my A029 for another who's got an A02A panel, and this one looks a bit yellow on the left side, on the top of the screen. I can notice it on the Safari top bar.

faint and tough to see in the pic possibly but its the best i could do.

its also possible this has been here since i bought it a week ago and I'm now just noticing

also for OCD'ers like myself, the stuff above that is just crap on the screen/dust on glass surface I brushed away, not a dead pixel haha

What would you guys do? I think so many things could go wrong if i swap again.

I don't see anything. My advice would be to just enjoy the machine instead of trying to find something wrong with it. Chances are you will get another and you'll find something wrong with it too. If its not a big deal don't worry about it.

Honestly when things get my attention I tend to obsess over them to the point where I do not enjoy what I am doing. The General consensus is that the higher spec models are all getting the screen many prefer, I did (3.1/512/16ram) and my screen seems perfect despite all the things I've made up in my head due to various threads. Just given the odds if you get another 8/256 you may end up with a worse screen.

yeah it's hard to photograph.

i personally don't think there's a correlation between higher specs getting good screens vs not. i think its a crap shoot all together.

You may be right however most that are getting the preferred screens are BTO. I don't know hell I wasn't even slightly anxious about my screen until this thread.

Man I'm not sure what to do.

I think with reward zone, I have at least 30 day return policy. Possibly 45, can't remember if our account is the top spender or not. Should be though.

I agree, dead pixels right in the centre of the screen are annoying. If they were in a far corner, that could be ok, but you did pay a premium for the thing, take it back and demand perfection! :D

So I'm going to hold onto mine now for a couple reasons:

1) may get another with the same or worse issue, or an inferior screen. Comparing with the demo unit at Best Buy, my screen was as good if not better-- pretty neck in neck with the other A02A.

2) have 45 days not 30 to return/exchange the rMBP, if the problem crops up everywhere or gets worse, I have options

3) maybe I could get used to it, but playing with the demo, the keys were squishy and sort of matte feeling. Compared to the 15" rMBP next to it and my 2015 13" that's clickier (but not clicky overboard, its a nice balance), and on par with the 2014 13" rMBP's refurbished I experienced, I prefer this keyboard and a bit of punchiness. If anything, there's variation beyond which keyboard you have, my previous 2014 was sorta loose near the enter bar which slowed down my flow for paragraph breaks.

It's time to count my blessings and OCD wind down a little.
I always pay a premium for apple products as do we all, but even though "you paid a premo, you should get perfect" we all know perfect is the unicorn out there. It's about picking your battles in the return hell game, if you want to call it a game.

Same on mine, I like it. 4 out of the 5 I've gone through have had the good soft keyboard. One of them was very loud and click-clackity. So in addition to different screens, they are using different keyboards it seems. Smh.

These two things make me more inclined to hold out for a bit. I wouldn't really call mine clicky its just got a nice springiness to it i'm used to. They can't even get the keyboard right at this point, yikes.

They feel so different they might as well ask if you want soft or clicky as part of the configuration process. Dear golly, Apple quality control dips to new lows ALL THE TIME.

assuming this thing holds up and i don't cave returning it and gambling like crazy, i might just hold onto it forever now that I'm over the retina hurdle in mac world.

At this rate, not going to upgrade my 6+ for a while either.

100% agree. The early 2015 model is the first "maxed" MacBook I've ever bought. THANK GOD it came perfect because going big on it and having to go through 4 or 5 would drive me insane and I would prolly end up just sticking with my late 2013 13'

Sometimes I wish I was blind and ignorant to issues and wow'd by anything with an :apple: logo and no other qualifiers :) It probably has been there the whole time it just took some sniffing.

Have another beer y'all, happy sunday.

one of these.

I love hefes. newcastle aint a bad bottled beverage at all though.

to make this post relevant, I wonder the reasoning behind those two keyboards. This almost fascinates me more than the multiple LCD supplier/IR/quality dilemma.

It's a shame as a first time Mac user that I was under the impression that Apple's QA was fantastic. I guess it was the case a few years ago when Jobs was in charge, but I cannot comment on then as a new Mac user.

Was impressed though when I had a problem with my Magsafe 2 charger on my 2014 rMBP and booked at the genius bar. Simple diagnostics test, came back all fine. Went into the back, brand new charger, swapped for faulty one and went on my way. One of the reasons I purchased Applecare. Especially when with Education discount it was only £40, it was a no brainer.

I don't think QC was at all perfect under Jobs, but it's taken a noticeable dive over the years increasingly.

I'll chalk the little abnormality in my screen up to be a unique watermark assigned only to me, so if anyone leaks (or in this case physically steals) my 2015 13" rMBP, they and thadoggfather (oh, referring to oneself in 3rd person-- the joys) are gonna be having some problems, doubling down on secrecy here. haha

Image Retention = Anxiety
Major Non-Uniformity (i haven't seen that) = Anxiety
Not exactly the shade you think it should be = Head to Color Pane and adjust to taste.

This thread shouldn't be making people return based on slight perceptions. When you have a bad panel, you wont have to ask us about it.

/except to learn about the image retention test itself :)

My point was, such efforts to 'preserve' the battery are mostly useless, probably a waste of time, and may even void the warranty, for the vast vast majority of users.

How would a 2 centimeter by 2mm piece of tape you can take off instantly void a warranty? That's just silly. And you still ignore the value of not taking extra current in a car or off a portable charger.

It's extremely valuable and fault-free advice if you keep it plugged in all the time. For god sake, it's just a data pin and there is no path to shorting or anything. It's not tin foil! It's impossible for it to do anything bad no matter how you put tape there, right or wrong. Be as obtuse about it as you want but if you do keep your battery charged almost all the time, as I do, that will extend the health of the battery a great deal over the life of the laptop. It's not obsessive, it's not "1 weird old trick". Leaving a battery fully charged for months on end hurts it. That's the science of li-po batteries. End of story. Apple doesn't really expect people to do that on a laptop but it happens. As in anyone who uses a laptop as their main office machine.

Why do you think you don't get batteries on consumer devices with a full charge? Because shipping and leaving such a device in that state damages it. Everyone who knows anything about batteries knows this. Apple's batteries aren't magical batteries. They are standard chemistry. Not sure you get it, but it's true. No magic at all.

Void warranty... LOL. Might as well say "I do not know anything about electrical engineering so here's my Apple Approved Opinion so I dont have to learn anything new today"

I said, "good day", sah.

i know theres threads about it but which resolution do you guys run yours at?

Forgot to respond earlier, fwiw. I use scaled setting of 1440x900 with LCD smoothing disabled. Text is actually crisper with this setting disabled vs enabled at this resolution. Saw this suggestion posted somewhere else so figured to repeat it here. It's great and to my eyes looks just as crisp as "best for retina." Go to system preferences -> general -> at bottom of the screen uncheck the box next to "use LCD smoothing when available." Then just reboot. Looks awesome, perfect resolution for this screen size. Interestingly any lag I experienced with scrolling in Safari has been eliminated. Not sure if it's because of this change in settings. Give it a try.

Ditto for me as well, 1440x900 with lcd smoothing also turned off.

Good tip - it does look good w/font smoothing off. thx

Not really want to return my mac, but at same time want to check (since only couple of more days left on 30 days to return). One annoyance is that when I charge the laptop without the ground there is this slight tingling sensation or vibration near where I rest my palm. I think this is normal, but should the laptop battery only last around 6ish hours on netflix playback? Either than these two annoyances the laptop seems perfect. Any input would be appreciated.

good tip. I also like the way it looks.

edit: I turned reduced transparency off after trying this, and it still remains lag free. I had it enabled to prevent the lag, but this seems to have the same reducing effect :)

I have about 12 tabs/apps open over 4 spaces and everything is buttery smooth. This is hooked to an external monitor too.

Honestly I'd be fine with that screen based on your photos. I don't really see anything wrong with it? Only thing you can do is keep asking for a replacement screen again and hope for the best. But, you never know what you'll get as a replacement.

yeah i guess so ill keep it, as i don't know what else i can end up with.
it really sucks imagine people who have perfect screens and due to some misfortune they need a screen replacement at some point, they will end up with ****** screens.

Btw my apple logo has kind of a pink tint, is this normal? When I compared it to my 2009 MBP the 2009 MBP Apple Logo seemed yellow and my current RMBP seems pinkish. Hope this is normal.

pink tint on apple logo is very normal from the three rMBP's I handled. it'd be the least of my concerns, honestly.

Now that it's mentioned the apple on the back of my screen looks distinctly pinkish, and i've got what I consider to be a perfect screen so it's not a tone thing. I guess we got the girly-man edition!

/joke
//fine with it
///it might have been pinkish on the last laptop, don't know
