Wow, I guess I really lucked out first time out of the gate! Mine has the 02A screen, is nice and even, warm in overall impression, but not excessively so, and I am more than happy with it. I'm thankful since I had gotten it from B&H rather than my local Apple store.

I'm wondering if it could be class action material if it could be proven that Apple carefully pick their in-stores display (All A02A) and therefore deceive the customers.

Seriously how can this be happening? Serious QC issue, or just dumping off bad stock ?

This is what I thought, when I heard a judge struck down the recent class action because the plaintiff didn't claim they made a buying decision based on the exact screen they'd be getting.

Yes, if we could document apple store floor displays then that would absolutely be the type of proof needed. I believe we'll find all the early models are the good ones; when you buy from a authorized reseller now, that's still early stock.

I'd like to hear from someone who got an A02A BTO.

Mine was a BTO (ordered mine the week of the release) and I received an A02A panel.

Thanks for the information. That still lines up with good screens going out early, so i hope for another recent report (i'll be able to make my own new report in a week)

Good to know, thanks. What were the other specs on your BTO? I'd be interesting if the A02A panels were more likely in the ones with i7 CPUs.

I have the base model 2015 13" rMBP i5, 2.9 GHz, 512 GB, 8 GB RAM and has the A02A panel. So I don't think that's not the case. But I bought mine at Best Buy and everything is perfect on mine, no yellow tint on mine, all uniformly cool.

I had a BTO with i5 2.9/16gb/256gb and (though I didn't check before returning) am fairly certain that was a A029 (The display was nasty yellow.)

Waiting on my replacement.

Yeah in my experience all the Best Buy ones were OK. Guessing apple doesn't want to screw over third party retailers with tons of returns. The poor folk at the apple stores (where returns are easier to account for)... that's where I think these bad screens are going, and it seems it's mostly to machines after the first run which were meant for reviewers/floor.

I know it's early, but id be happy to hear someone just got an A02A BTO. May be asking too much.

that's what i'm going for, as well, waiting for replacment... but i have the 2.9/8gb/512GB A02A flawless (what deeeep reds!) from Best Buy as of yesterday in case that fails too, i suck it up.

Here's to our luck :D

Nice ! I may settle for this config too since it's available from a few retailers here in Paris. Should gave up on the 16go Ram tho :(

Waiting for my replacement, can't overcharge my credit card sigh. Hope this one will do the trick.

Has anyone here gotten a 2015 RMBP from Amazon? I'm curious as whether the panel lottery is just as bad as Best Buy. And I'm assuming that BTO is built to order, like directly from the Apple online store? Thanks.

The third party retailers seem to have much much better luck. Don't know about Amazon. Best buy has been good.. But that is only with units that were produced early on.

Don't buy anything retina without understanding that you'll have to return it from three to five times, and that the Apple Store staff will claim it's fine and suggest you just don't want to buy their products i.e. you actually want the same non defective products they display in store.

Sure you might get lucky the first time but many (most?) people aren't.

If you have that kind of time then go for it. Otherwise I can't in good conscious recommend macbook pros at this time.

I'm gone through four returns so far. :(

Ouch!! I can't imagine how badly apple is managing this that they released a support note that had to lie, a new low.. Jobs would have fired people over this. Was it bad image retention, as I've experienced, or was it yellow? Or some mix? Curious.

/as the screen is half the cost of the laptop, there is no way I'm helping them move bad stock using my money. They have 170 billion in cash reserves, I'm not helping them grow that this way. No wonder they are excited to introduce the Apple watch.. Tiny screen, probably has better yields (we hope).

I haven't seen enough real evidence that 3rd party retailers are getting more units with better screens vs. Apple stores. Keep in mind most people don't post on these or any other forums about their experiences.

My opinion is that Apple stores are the best places to buy products if you are sensitive to screen defects (as most of us here are). Assuming you have one close by. Even if you don't, I would suggest ordering online through Apple.

Best Buy, Amazon, and other retailers will flag you if you return / exchange too many times. Apple is far more reasonable (for now). Each time I've gone I've come equipped with photos of my screen and with comparison examples. I have been very polite about it all. Every time they were very receptive and agreed to exchange, although after the 3rd exchange they did start to give me the "we can't keep swapping these out" spiel.

As I posted yesterday or the day prior, I was all set to swear off the retina MBP for good because of getting 4 sub par screens. I gave it 1 more chance and luckily struck gold with my current beauty A02A screen. Do not give up, when you find the screen that is perfect for you it is SO worth it.

I agree that when it works it is a beauty. The Apple store gave me the spiel on my first return -- having brought in the defective BTO, and the first one they brought out was also defective -- and that was it. Very rude in the face of an obviously bad retention problem (<2 minutes to see problem on both displays, both A029)

I really want to wait. I guess I feel bad about returning so many, thinking about the cost and all, but what else can I do? I *need* the 16GB version (was just playing with docker, and that is obviously going to eat ram like ramen soup) and it's their choice to make BTO the only option, and buying a model i dont want from a store the only way to have a lappy until then (i sold my perfectly good 2012 13" fully expanded to get this)

Well, i still am giving them one more try. I can't believe i'll get an A02A from the Apple Store Online BTO.. heck, im even considering them to switch screens from the one I have now (perfect!) to the new one and returning this one with the screen from the BTO whatever it is. It's such a good screen... when you get the right model! Best i've ever seen. The colors, brightness.. man.

/im hoping this thread becomes the first hit for A02A and A029

Very true indeed. Sadly each store's staff can be very different. I've experienced it before and it is really frustrating. In my case, comparison photos and comparing my unit to the ones on the floor was sufficient. Even today when I returned my latest A029 I came in with comparison photos just in case. The associate noticed it immediately and acknowledged that the screen wasn't good.

Funny you said that. I was reading an old topic about the 15" rMBP yellow tint and a guy actually did swap his screen himself when he had 2 units at hand (like you) .One with perfect screen/bad body and the other with poor screen/good body.

I read the iFixit instructions for replacing a display but I am hoping I could convince a tech at the Apple Store to do it. Somehow i'm guessing they'll take a dim view of it even though there is nothing "immoral" with it.

I would do it myself if I could handle messing it up the 1st time, but bein' a thing I'm going to rely on for many years, i'd rather practice auto-dentistry

Pretty risky indeed. Really doubt Apple will ever agree to perform such sorcery intervention. Maybe a good independant tech could handle it nicely for cheap & w/o leaving evidences it happened. Dunno

I'd say it's worth future proofing with the 2015 for sure.

First time I used force touch I loved it. Now I hate using the 2014 trackpad. I got used to being able to click anywhere too.

totally agree on the track pad thing. I didn't think it would be that big of a difference but i used my late 2013 13' that i gave my daughter earlier today and it would drive me nuts if i had to use that one as my daily again. Why NOT future proof with the 2015? I maxed out the 2015 I bought (except for the 1tb) and am planning on a good 3-5 years with it.

ps- i also received a A02A.
