My 2015 13" MBP reports screen as 0000A029.

Anyone encountered that screen version yet? Hadn't seen it mentioned above...

It is mentioned all over this thread....I'll sum it up for you. A029 screens are noted to have image retention, poor uniformity, and yellow screens. How is yours?

What are good easy ways to test?

Truthfully, never had a MacBook before. Whites look awfully white to me, as Id expect. Looks good to me honestly? I don't have any thing really to compare screen to however.

Makes me wonder if you really read the thread, it is mentioned often. Have you run the image retention test? Two out of three A029s I saw had it badly. If you have a screen that doesn't show an "IR" issue and you do not see any other reason to complain, yours might be OK. Not all A029s have been bad but you have to check to be sure (it won't hurt your screen, it will only tell if you if you have the problem)

In addition to objectiveseeker's suggestion, you should bring up solid white screens to test uniformity. You can view images posted earlier in this thread to compare as well. If everything looks good to you now you may not want to test and just be happy with it...ignorance may be bliss. Good luck!

Yea, I have already exchanged MacBook once for other reasons. Bought it through Apple portal at work, and picked up in store...Caused all kinds of a mess. Maybe I just don't want to know LOL :p

If it look fine to you during your day to day use, Just check for image retention, don't even bother tracking something you don't notice already.

Yea, granted last laptop I owned was a $299 special, this is worlds better LOL. I don't have anything else really hi-res to compare to. Will certainly look into image retention, but I don't do any image work, per se, so don't feel I shouldn't be really concerned. This MacBook was my first, and to kind of get a feel for big kid(non-iPhone) world. So far, I feel I made the right choice. Needed something off old laptop yesterday, man it felt so cheap and screen was HORRID compared to my rMBP!!!

Thanks for the friendly advice/help. :)

Though I wouldn't recommend hunting for issues if you're happy with what you have, as you're bound to find something on a mass manufactured device, I disagree about not testing for IR even if you dont see it in regular/limited use of having just gotten the machine but to each his/her own.

It's not impossible to expect over years of use, there will be a time in your "work" flow (or just casual flow) where you keep a window open for a while, walk away, etc.

Faster storage and processor are meh as well?

The Broadwell architecture has actually provided noticeably better battery life in my limited use with the 2015 machine, even scaled at 1920x1200. Getting double read/write is awesome too. Not meh at all, good future proofing.

I retract my initial impressions at the store. And for what its worth, the device I used ForceTouch on DID feel like crap. Not punchy and intriguing like the one I own. Whether that's QC issues, or someone mashing the demo unit as hard as humanly possible, I dont know.

Yeah I don't think you understand what image retention is. Remember how old monitors used to burn in so that you'd see an image of something on the screen for years? Well imagine that but it takes minutes to show up, and it goes away in twice the time It is extremely ugly once you notice it and you won't notice it in the first few days because you'll be moving things around playing. But once you see it you will notice it daily and it will never go away. Apple is lying, this type of image retention is NOT typical of any lcd since the history of ever and you've never seen this problem on any other computer you've experienced.

Ya really should check, then again, you didn't read the thread or use the link you asked for so maybe you're their target audience to dump bad stock.

"good luck"

/there is no way these are leaving the factory without them knowing which is why I take it kind of personal, Apple

Just came back from my local Apple Store and oh surprise all their display are A02A smh.. They had the i7/512/16GB in stock by default as well.

What, you mean, 13"? I've got one that is still in processing items, I would er.. Hurt mildly.. To get my hands on any good 16gb today. I keep trying to convince myself 8gb is enough.. Then I open a Windows vm. Drat.

And no surprise about the floor models. I still think my theory is close to spot on.

That is the exact reason I got the 16gb model, I program in windows with parallels quite a lot, and you can manage with 8gb, but 16gb is much smoother.

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it. No need to be sour about it, however.

If issue is truly of this magnitude Apple shouldn't be getting away with it...

and the "smoother" part is really the integrated graphics. Also, I love the idea of large file caches. Sure I have a super fast ssd, but having 16gb means never having to re-read basic os files.

Oh, i sound first-worldy-problemy, sure, I can use this 8gb machine to develop until the cows come home. But I got real used to the idea that my computer had no real limits (that i would hit) in how many things I could have open, and w/8GB that limit is very real, if somewhat masked by the SSD now.

moan kvetch...

/still waiting on that 16GB BTO A02A!! Got my lucky rabbit spleen, sheep entrails, diviner rod and everything. ommmm mani padme hum... ommmm mani padme hum..

yeah dont take it personal-like but it sounds like you're not quite gettin' the magnitude.. on this forum thread alone i bet we represent 50 returns...

i wouldn't skip the test, blaine. Either way (lucky or no) that's data we'd all like, if you're down to participate in our informal science-ing

My new MBPr 13" i7/16/512 arrived today. Of course it had to come with the A029 screen. The whites seem good and screen evenness seems fine. I ran the image retention test and am not quite sure what to look for. Is any retention acceptable? Are there screens where you don't see the black squares at all after 10 minutes?

HELL YES (pardon the invective) there are screens you dont see it.. as in ALL normal screens.

Sorry pardner, you done got caught. Dont worry, that's three for me. Do NOT keep that screen.

/the one i kept does zip zero nada after hours of that pattern, as does every LCD of any type (including higher-res IPS phone screens) i've ever owned previously.

Yes 13''. Had to go & check for myself. Should have asked the Genius how they could think this is acceptable. But refrained myself.

I was afraid I'd get this type of response. Thanks for the input. I guess it's time to call Apple for a replacement.

Fingers crossed for you. I'll do the IR testing on mine tonight and report back in case it will help the A029 vs. A02A comparison. I'm on my 5th unit and was so relieved to have finally gotten a white and uniform screen, I didn't do the IR test and just enjoyed using it for the rest of the weekend. Why can't I just enjoy my *seemingly* perfect laptop rather than look for issues...:(

If you have the A02A it's highly likely you'll have no IR issues.
