How do you downgrade?

I made the mistake of upgrading to iOS 6. I soon realized that mistake and downgraded back to iOS 5.1.1.
I thought it was impossible to go backwards in iOS. I am fairly certain the new maps will be terrible for me (and most everyone else in Asia) but I would like to have a look. How do you do the downgrade?

Unfortunately, apps which access apple's map app (like the redfin reall estate app) are stuck with Apple's maps now. Even adding a google map app won't change that.

Which is a crying shame; the google maps showed property lines for individual parcels, which was very useful in a real estate app. Now that is all gone.

White roads on a pale yellow background? Almost impossible to see.

I am ready to downgrade just to get google maps back. The rest of IOS6 fluff isn't worth it. The maps app was one of the functions of my ipad that I used the most. Ruined.

Gosh I hope these rumours are true

"The same sources say that Google is preparing a Google Maps app for iOS6, which will appear in time. No official statement has been made and there will inevitably be questions over whether Apple will approve it in the App Store. (Apple might not, on the basis that it “competes with existing functionality”, but would invite a further backlash if it did.)"

From a "demi-God" no less

In the meantime, I won't upgrade to iOS 6 and I won't be buying a new iPhone. If Apple fail to apologies and put a clear plan in place to fix this, I'll be swapping platforms.
I am noticing that firestarter and a few other demi-God posters have expressed serious rational concerns about this problem and even mentioning the unthinkable platform switch. These people are not blind fanboys but contributors who are usually dedicated to making Apple devices work optimally. With the official release, all those who said "don't worry it's Beta" have been muted. There are serious problems within the US (more than just collapsing bridges), but I believe these will be resolved relatively soon.

Where Apple seems to be really shooting itself in the foot is outside the US where there will surely be a negative impact on sales. I came back to iOS after my Motorola tablet just died one day. I won't need an apology, but right now Samsung/Android is looking good.

I don't know why people are so bent out of shape over the maps issue, Apple did give you a free Panaroma app.

:D

Yea I have been chuckling about that. I said they'd be crap from day 1 of the beta and everyone told me to shut up. Apple would surely flip some magical switch by release.

Yes it is quite funny.

Apple will fix it. But it will take years, and anyone that thinks different has no idea. Think of the complexity of deliver a mapping service worldwide. Think about how much lead Google already has.

For our friends from China, finally you can walk in Shanghai from the Bund to Pudong without getting wet feet.:

Apparently google has already submitted Google Maps to Apple and is just now waitin on approval.
I'll take this with a grain of salt -- not because this might not be true, but because any such app would likely be just the same as as the mobile-web-based maps, which are currently crippled. As far as I can tell, there is currently no way to get real, full-screen, dynamically-scrollable streetview on the iPad (or iPhone). Google's mobile web maps don't have streetview, and any attempt to get the non-mobile streetview working says that flash is required.

However, if the google app has streetview, I'll be jumping for joy. (My opinion is that google will leave it out, though, as part of their feud with Apple. I think Google just wants to make android look better.)

Lol apple cut google out of the OS mate :) stop thinking that google want to make android look better because of the map app, if it do any harm to apple it was they choice

Hopefully when a jailbreak comes out, someone will be able to port the Google Maps app over.

lolwut? :p Yeah, Apple's hurting themselves, and my guess is that google is going to help them by not putting some maps features into an iOS app (or mobile web page).

Yes, it's great to think that Google already have their app ready, if true.

Interestingly, the article talks about something that was suggested earlier in this thread, that Google will be delighted at all the negative press at the moment whilst Apple consider whether to approve their app.

Well lets hope google make a decent app and not just a glorified web-app.

If Apple approve the Google app, I don't believe they will have left out key features.

My feeling is that they will deliver an app with 95% of the features of the android offering, which will be an excellent application, just so they can say, "look what we can do compare to the Apple guys".

@Locodice - that pic is absolute class!

There are a few apps I've been trying out as replacements for Street View. Have a search for "StreetViewer" and "Live StreetView". They're not perfect but they are still better than that 'FlyOver' s h i t.

Town not even right on maps

To add insult to injury not only does maps say I live in the wrong town. The town they have said I live in they have spelt it wrong lol what a joke
