I thought it was impossible to go backwards in iOS. I am fairly certain the new maps will be terrible for me (and most everyone else in Asia) but I would like to have a look. How do you do the downgrade?I made the mistake of upgrading to iOS 6. I soon realized that mistake and downgraded back to iOS 5.1.1.

I am noticing that firestarter and a few other demi-God posters have expressed serious rational concerns about this problem and even mentioning the unthinkable platform switch. These people are not blind fanboys but contributors who are usually dedicated to making Apple devices work optimally. With the official release, all those who said "don't worry it's Beta" have been muted. There are serious problems within the US (more than just collapsing bridges), but I believe these will be resolved relatively soon.In the meantime, I won't upgrade to iOS 6 and I won't be buying a new iPhone. If Apple fail to apologies and put a clear plan in place to fix this, I'll be swapping platforms.
Yea I have been chuckling about that. I said they'd be crap from day 1 of the beta and everyone told me to shut up. Apple would surely flip some magical switch by release.
And this is where Apple plans to expand their market share? For our friends from China, finally you can walk in Shanghai from the Bund to Pudong without getting wet feet.:
I'll take this with a grain of salt -- not because this might not be true, but because any such app would likely be just the same as as the mobile-web-based maps, which are currently crippled. As far as I can tell, there is currently no way to get real, full-screen, dynamically-scrollable streetview on the iPad (or iPhone). Google's mobile web maps don't have streetview, and any attempt to get the non-mobile streetview working says that flash is required.Apparently google has already submitted Google Maps to Apple and is just now waitin on approval.

However, if the google app has streetview, I'll be jumping for joy. (My opinion is that google will leave it out, though, as part of their feud with Apple. I think Google just wants to make android look better.)
lolwut?Lol apple cut google out of the OS matestop thinking that google want to make android look better because of the map app, if it do any harm to apple it was they choice
Gosh I hope these rumours are true

"The same sources say that Google is preparing a Google Maps app for iOS6, which will appear in time. No official statement has been made and there will inevitably be questions over whether Apple will approve it in the App Store. (Apple might not, on the basis that it competes with existing functionality, but would invite a further backlash if it did.)"
lolwut?Yeah, Apple's hurting themselves, and my guess is that google is going to help them by not putting some maps features into an iOS app (or mobile web page).
