I'm guessing that a fully revamped iPod Touch will be released when the iPhone 5 comes out, really is a shame about the 256MB of RAM.

I believe Apple's focus this year was the development of iOS 5. Which will complement our iPod touches quite nicely. Oct 12th can't come soon enough for me!

I'm also looking forward to the improvements iOS 5 will bring to my 4th gen iPod touch.

It's going to work for the general public, but not for anybody who checks up on rumor sites like this. Apple is starting to slow down and by the end of the year they won't have the best mobile gaming devise because the new psp is coming out. Good luck Apple.:p

1. The vita comes out spring 2012
2. More expensive and 3hr battery life.

Does anyone know if they upped the RAM to 512?? I know there is no A5 but increase in ram?

I assume you're being sarcastic here, but if not:

Every year?

There are other brands.

3rd Gen iPod broke last year and i've been holding out for a new iPod.

So thats 2 re-fresh's and little to intrest me.

Now a classic with a 200GB HDD, how hard would that be eh Apple?

Colin,

How to break this to you gently....Apple probably won't make any changes like that to the Classic. Apple's clearly going Solid State, and the Classic is likely going to be EOL'd sooner rather than later.

Unfortunately, this has been ever more obvious to all of the Classic iPod fans over time.

Only Apple would stop selling a product that makes money.

Apple won't update the iPod Touch, because the iPhone has got serious competition from Samsung. Samsung has become the #1 smartphone maker just a month ago.

If Apple will make an other iPhone without the Phone ( that is what the iPod Touch was ), it might hurt iPhone sales further.

Maybe we will see a new iPod Touch when the iPhone 4S has matured and if Apple has become the #1 Smartphone maker again.

If this year iPod Touch updated and get the A5 as well .. That would be the sweetest thing Apple has done all time. I mean $300 for iPod with A5 CPU on 2011?!!

But it's not happening this year, sadly. But this is a good time for me, it gave me valid reason to upgrade from current iPod Touch to iPhone 4S. Being upgraded and beefed up, it now has so much more than iPod Touch and deserve the extra $$$ to me.

Not so much last year when iPod Touch is basically 90% iPhone 4 with 50% less price :D

And also, my dumbphone has faithfully served me well for almost 5 years. That poor thing deserve a nice and peaceful retirement, you know :(

It seems that unfortunately the iPod touch line with be heading down EOL direction. Proclaiming #1 game player with no update is quite disheartening. Cheap phones like the 3GS may eventually phase out the iPod touch. I won't be too surprised if the iPod touch isn't updated next year, it could share the direction of the classic, it sticks on the market until it doesn't sell at which it is cut from production.

I don't think so, next year will determine whats going on with the iPods. My guess is that they've simply changed the updating schedule to every other year now that the iPods have peaked.

Like I said if next year there are no updates, then I'll worry but I really have a hard time believing they are going to leave the touch in the dust considering I'm sure they get millions of people ordering apps with the iPod Touch. The App store is a big profit for them and I can't see them dropping it.

This is just a attempt to get people on the iPhone, which is a bigger money maker than the iPod Touch. I see the iPhone being the latest and greatest now with the iPod Touch being an after thought.

I don't care, the iPod Touch makes a great PDA for me so its not like its going to die for me because I didn't get a RAM update or processor update. My only regret is that I got the 64GB model, the space is overkill now that I realize that playing music on it is very awkward and time consuming when compared to the iPod Classic.

I'm sure that this won't happen.

The unlocked price of an 3GS is $375, which is $176 more than the base iPod touch. Also the iPod touch is directed towards people who don't want to pay monthly data bills ($60+) but want a pocketable iOS experience. The iPod touch is here to stay, but the technology inside will be one or two generations behind. Why? The iPod touch doesn't have any worthy competitors. Apple can not update the hardware for a year, and it will still sell like hotcakes ("3rd" gen 8GB, "5th" gen in white). The design will probably follow the steps of the iPad instead of the iPhone in order to differentiate the lines even more. But as I said, the target audience doesn't care. To them, its just an iPod.

Since the touch wasn't updated this fall I decided to order a Galaxy Player 5.0 to replace my older iPod touch. The Player 5.0 is essentially Samsung's version of the iPod touch. It has a bigger screen and Micro SD slot, two things I wish the iPod had. Can't wait for it to arrive!

$269 for 8GB? Monster screen for a portable? You have got to be kidding me.

I got it on sale for $229. It's 8GB, plus up to 32GB, if needed, on a Micro SD. It'll fit easily into my pocket.

I think the iPod screen is too small and of course an iPad is way too big to fit in any pocket.

Since what I decided on is not an Apple product, I guess I shouldn't have mentioned it here. :) Having owned two dozen Macs and a half dozen iPods over the years, I wouldn't say it was an uninformed decision.

Actually, I dislike it because its Samsung. If it was an HTC, I would buy it. :D
Oh yeah, Samsung is being sued and ridiculed for daring to sell products similar to Apple's. Hmmm.

Isn't it obvious that all TVs look essentially the same? Toasters look the same. Refrigerators look the same. Toilets look the same. So what if phones look the same? Oops, off topic, sorry.
