It is pretty bad on sprint, less than 1Mbps in all areas I live in.. But that was expected.

I'm just excited that pandora never missed a beat in my 30 min car ride! On my Evo, the same location, I would have to pause the song to let it download enough to play it all the way through. Major upgrade!! Apple must make better use of the data then android.

I have run into slowness on the Siri front, but after seeing the posts, it is probably more related to Apples servers.

I've only played around with Sprint's 3G for about an hour but it has been extremely slow, just a few steps from up from Edge IMO.

I started off with AT&T with the iPhone and then moved to Verizon and now to Sprint. AT&T and Verizon were extremely fast with 3G. Hopefully this won't be a normal occurrence.

Sprint is very location-specific when it comes to being bad or good.

Here in Phoenix, they suck. Or at least they did until April, when I finally left them for good.

I would regularly get sub-300kbps download speeds (upload would often be double that speed).

Even parked outside a Sprint store in Tempe, where you would think they would optimize everything (but I also realize that means lots of phones in small area), I recorded 4 sub-100kbps download speeds over a 30 minute period this past March. That is approaching iDEN speeds! Four miles away, at my office in Mesa, however, I usually got speeds from 900-1.3. Those speeds always beat Verizon users in my office. So even from tower to tower you may see a huge difference.

With that said, in Los Angeles and Orange County, I regular hear from friends that they get about 1.75Mbps download speeds. So it is highly variable.

Yup, I just got a Sprint IP4S, and its shockingly slow compared to my ATT IP4 when connected to 3G. I could get 1.5 download on ATT sometimes. I'm hoping it will get better.

DIfferent servers give different speeds. My numbers flucuate between 300 to 1000kbps just by picking a different server. Speedtest.net isn't that reliable IMO.

BTW, everyone on Sprint has noticed 3G speeds drop dramatically over the past 6 months. 2 years ago I would consistently get 1.5-2mbps, now I'm lucky to get 1/4 of that.

heres mine on ATT in Seattle
thinking about switching to Sprint though for unlimited data yet

#1 - this is a sprint thread, please stop posting your at&t and verizon results. We know the basic range of their speed already for our comparisons sake, we don't need any more of that.

#2 - What does a download speed of .5 mbs actually mean in terms of how it will affect your usage? In other words, will .5 mbs mean that web pages load visibly slowly? Does it mean I can't stream netflix? How about standard def netflix?

I streamed Netflix on my iPad before over Sprint 3G. You basically need a minimum speed of 0.7mbps to get a reliable stream, and something closer to 2mbps to do HD.

0.5mbps is just fine for websites IMO.

The most important number is the latency. That is the amount of time it takes to talk to the server. 200ms latency can bog you down. Sprints 4G consistently gets latencies of around 150ms, and it makes web browsing feel much faster. This is the same reason why AT&T doesn't have a "real" 4G network, because while their download speeds are good, their latencies are similar to ours, so the phone won't feel any faster.

I can't even install the Speedtest.net app to start my test, lmao.

I don't know if this due to Sprint or Apple, but every app I download from the app store takes 10-15 minutes to "load" or download/install. I am not even exaggerating.

I went to install the app when I first started reading this thread - and now it says Loading and I can BARELY see the little blue progress bar on the app icon. Barely. It's done this for any app I've tried to download.

----------

7 minutes later - it is about 1/4 of the way done downloading now.

I'm getting consistent 200-300kbps down and 10-50kbps upload at my house with my new 4S on Sprint. My EVO using 3G (all that's here in Dayton, OH) is also low signal bars gets 500-800kbps down and 100-200kbps upload consistently. Having some serious buyers remorse after 800 bucks for my 32GB 4S.

I'd rather have the unlimited data with my 27% discount and good customer service. Plus, there are PCs and Macs to do those tasks as well.

Ping: 460ms
Download: 0.12mbps
Upload: 0.29mbps

This doesn't seem normal. :( It hasn't gotten any better today either (versus yesterday, launch day)...

Sprint speeds can be really bad sometimes, but I haven't had much problems in my area, I have a android phone next to me as well and for some reason it gets better speeds I think Is weird anyways I'm getting close to 1 mbps or hitting most of the times , as long as it doesn't get under 0.5mbps and latency over 200 is good for me

Try connecting to a different server in the speedtest app.

I was wanting to get the iPhone 4S... I currently have the EVO. Anything you liking on the iPhone over the EVO?

On AT&T with my iPhone 4 here and my here are my speedtest.net results:

Ping: 100ms
Download: 5.36 Mbps
Upload: 1.28 Mbps

Not too bad here in the Pittsburgh area

I live in Houston,TX and these are the results of speedtests -

Honestly, I am not worried about those speeds. Yeah they are less than AT&T speeds but I was able to stream 2 hr movie off youtube without any problems with decent quality. Browsing is great too. Unlimited data is reason I am not switching to AT&t. I used up 400mb to stream that movie :D

P.S - I am paying $156 after 23% employee discount for 4 iphone 4S lines - 1500 shared mins ,unlimited mobile to any mobile , text and data.
