I'm a new Sprint customer and I've haven't been impressed with the speeds at all. At my house this morning I was getting 750kbs down and 400kbs up with 90ms latency. I'd be fine with those speeds but, now I'm doing a speedtest and I'm getting 12kbs down 2kbs up and 1200ms latency at my house. This is just unacceptable.

It's such a dramatic change from the speeds I was getting this morning that I'm hoping Sprint is having some technical issues.

I still have my AT&T iP4 and I didn't cancel the contract yet for this reason alone. I wanted to make sure Sprint's network was up to snuff and so far I'm thinking I might return the phone.

My AT&T iP4 is clocking in at 5500kbs down 2000kbs up with 125ms latency at home.

My main reason for switching carriers is because I can't get service at work with AT&T, and seeing as how I spend 40-60 hours a week there, it would be nice to have a phone that actually works while I'm at work. I have to wait until Monday to test my signal strength at work though.

That might be the deciding factor in my decision as I have WiFi at home and I haven't had any problems making calls. Then again, I don't make calls that often so data speeds are really the main draw for me when choosing a carrier.

I've had no problem at all with my Sprint iphone, it's actually lightning quick on the Sprint 3G network, siri runs great on it. I have had problems with the AT&T network, had an iphone there and it was disasterously slow. I suspects it's where one is at. For the New York metro area Sprint runs great

Yikes. Hopefully it's just a hiccup for Sprint and not something endemic to the Sprint iPhone.

I'm loving AT&T with my iPhone 4 !!

This just in.... Different carriers work differently in different areas. More on the news at 11....

Sprint is working great for me. How about people stop running the speed test app over and over again and comparing and just use the phone? I'm having no buffering on videos and pages are loading instantly.

This. My data speeds have been fluctuating from 0.6 - 1.7 mpbs down (avg 0.9). If you compare it to AT&T then if looks very slow but I had no problems playing youtube videos with this.

Well sure, obviously, but that doesn't mean that there aren't overall qualities about the network as a whole. The number of people claiming slow speed on sprint seem to outnumber 100-to-1 the people saying they get acceptable speeds. Even if you consider that generally people are 10 times more likely to complain than they are to praise, that still leaves you with a huge majority of people who are getting very poor speeds.

Same here, AT&T does have better speeds but I refuse to go back sorry, too many drop calls while driving sucks , and even at home, some carriers are better then others , so for people really having bad speeds I would go with another carrier , or call sprint and complain, one time I had the issue and they reset it the network communication with my phone and since then I haven't had any problems, I was getting low 0.20-0.15 Mbps and now I'm back to 1 or above or at least close to it :D

I was complaining about the 3G speeds last night. Tonight they are much better, almost the same it seems from Verizon where I came from.

Here are the two tests I ran on Speedtest. Could someone interpret my results for me because I don't understand what they mean. Are these numbers good or bad?

Two servers:

Greensboro
891 kbps download
471 kbps upload
329 ms Ping

Wilson
516 kbps download
501 kbps upload
178 ms Ping

Not good but not horrific like some of the other tests show in this thread.

Not really, I see low speeds with ATT and Verizon listed on these forums depending on the location. Some of the differences are vast, just look around. And if someone is getting slow speed, especially at home, the solution is ....use wifi...and be happy that the Sprint plans have you paying less monthly than both att and verizon. I had an EVO before this, and I never turned on 4g aside from a few times just to see since it was available in my area. But I never had the NEED to use 4g. And I always kept it off. If anything I am annoyed at the $10 extra per month for a 3g phone.

The question is better answered by you. Did everything you want to do on the phone get successfully done? That's your measuring stick if a Sprint iphone will work for you :)

Dont use Speedtest it has ADS!!!

 The thing that amazes me is that people are testing the mobile connection speeds using an app that runs ads which affect ping rate and dl/up speeds. LMAO....

I think the one by the FCC is ad free and should be a bit more accurate:p

Tonight yes. Last night no. But I'm starting to think that might have been because of all the new iPhone users on the network at the same time for hours last night playing around with Siri and everything.

I was never going to return the phone anyway because I get a 25 percent employee discount on Sprint and that's more important to me than blazing fast 3G speeds.

I currently have both ATT and Sprint, and I'm wondering if I should just cancel my Sprint account. These low, low numbers are disheartening.

However, I am able to watch Netflix and stream Pandora no problem whatsoever, so I guess it does well in real world application

These Sprint sucks thread have gotten me nervous. I've been with Sprint for 3 years, currently using an EVO 4G and never had any complaints about data speeds. My Sprint 4S is on the way and I was starting to second guess my choice. I ran 8 consecutive Speedtest.net tests on my EVO 4G, all on 3G and got the following results:

Download/Upload/Ping
1.02/.86/136
.84/.84/102
1.66/.87/119
.99/.84/118
1.61/.89/209
1.09/.85/157
2.04/.92/125
1.13/.86/156

While these are not as numerically impressive as those I have seen posted for other carriers, in use they were just fine. Web pages loaded very quickly and I never felt like I was waiting for anything. All of these results were on my EVO 4G so the experience on the 4S should be even better since it's a much faster device. I'm in Las Vegas for those wondering, at least here Sprint data speeds seem just fine.

And for the last two years I was blaming my poor 3G speeds on my old phone. Apparently the problem is Sprint.

It seems some people are quick to make excuses for Sprint because "it works good enough for now", but I think the real concern is about how things will be in the near future:

1) They've made a huge $20billion deal with Apple that will be bringing millions of iPhones to a network that may not be able to handle capacity

2) They're putting $10Billion into LTE so fixing 3G issues is not a top priority

3) There is no clause in a 2yr contract that allows you to leave due to poor service

Sprint is a struggling company so they really need to figure this out because it seems the iPhone is just a band aid over a much more serious problem.
