Woz has not been relevant at Apple for decades. Sorry. He's just another old geek with an opinion.

I'd love Apple to offer a larger sized iPhone along with the current size.

Think they will, but didnt have to just yet. Most buyers who would have purchased the larger model will buy the small one now, once that starts to change they will offer both as we are about to see with the iPad.

Woz is right in wanting one, but Apple may be right in holding back for now...

Another asinine comment from a guy who designed a couple of admittedly great products thirty years ago and got rich on the back of them. It's worth recalling that Wozniak didn't even want to sell the Apple II; he just wanted to own a computer.

Thank goodness he has no role at Apple now.

Apple is 'getting' arrogant? :D

Apple is arrogance itself. Steve was a HUGE arrogant SOB. He knew it, and it worked for him....big time.

thank God for that. I just hope Tim is as arrogant.

(ok i'll shut up now :) )

Mr woz is entitled to his opinion. Why don't he convince the millions of people who don't own an iPhone to go android instead.

why would he want to convince or "try" to convince anybody of anything?
he says he likes "all the phones"... have you actually seen how many he carries?

"Nobody having trouble working the big phones..." That's because Woz, u got big hands!
So thats the way you make yourself feel better.

I dont have big hands and my 5'2" wife definitely doesnt have big hands but we both have been able to comfortably use 4.3-4.5" phones. Apple could easily make a phone with a screen that big because the comfort of a phone is less about the physical screen size and more dependent on how the OS caters to it. A 4.5" iPhone or 7" iPad would all work fine IF the OS is written with that size in mind so all this talk about "correct" screen sizes are just unfounded excuses.

Seriously. I value Woz opinion, not only because he's Woz but because he's formulating an opinion by actually USING the products in question. Not many people out here do that, they just bring up the most extreme examples of large screens and say nonsense like "5in galaxy note is stupid, nobody wants that, android sux".

Exactly that!

One thing though: arrogant can be fine in some situations. But just arrogant is bad. Apple has always been arrogant, but in the 90s they forgot that to get away with being arrogant the Jobs recipe was to deliver innovative and high quality products which appeal to a large group of users.

With the iPhone 5 I would say:
- Innovative: not that much but still it is a nice change over the previous generation. They didn't have to do it this year but to keep their position in the market they will have to reinvent their product at some point (or move to another market as they did from the iPod to the iPhone). Lets judge them in a few years for that.
- High quality: IMO the design is cool, but the scuffgate is not that impressive and the product seems a bit too easy to scratch which would make it look ugly. So mixed-up on this.
- Appeal to a large group of people: it looks like it does given how many they are selling. Just my opinion but I think they were right not to give in to the larger screen size fashion. To me it is like Netbooks at the time: everybody wanted Apple to release one and in the end they never did and the market just died because better options came up (partially from Apple).

I happen to agree with Woz. I mean, I just recently experimented with a Samsung Galaxy Note back in May, for three months, and came back for the iPhone 5. That was my first Android experience, and honestly, it's been hard for me to come back to this knowing what else is out there now. Arrogant? I'd have to say yes. I mean, these things are obviously poorly made -- too many people are getting defective phones to begin with. I'm one of them. No replacement to be found. And yes, I do miss the larger screen on my Note, a lot. And I was just writing about this whole thing this morning at The Apple and Paw: http://www.meloniemclaurin.com/iphone-5-keep-calm-and-carry-on/

It's really hard for me, because I've been devoted to Apple products and I love the whole unity of software and hardware concept, the total experience -- but something is terribly amiss with this iPhone 5. It's got me concerned.

I noticed that.
So what is he again with Apple?
Is he even affiliated or part of the company any more?
Woz has an opinion just like anyone else though. Why judge him? But like others said Steve was the brain behind the business part of Apple.

He's still listed as an employee and gets a token salary of around $120k/year.

First off i know plenty of girls and people that would absolutely hate a bigger, wider iPhone.. I can just see them saying "wtf this is too big" etc.

I think the 4 inch screen is just perfect, could they have made it just a bit wider, a tidiy bit wider? Sure, but it doesnt even matter to me. Coming from a GS3, this device is much more easier to use and feels much more comfortable in hand, and not to mention i am typing this with one hand on my iPhone with ease and comfortbility, something i could never do with my GS3 . Apple sure does have a argument with the one handed usability and "Android has too big screens". Personally I think Woz is speaking nonsense

Uhh sir, thats the price of being a early adopter to new phone launches, the kinks and defective ones will be more around at launch. But a month or two in the iPhone 5's being made will be flawless coming out the factories. It sounds like your saying this issue is very widespread and everyone has a messed up iPhone 5. I dont have a messed up one

I believe Woz is an Apple FELLOW, an honorary title by the look of things. By his own admission, he talked to Jobs maybe once a year. When he wrote his auto-bio, Jobs declined to foreword.

Still he has to queue up at the store to get his new iPhone.

Agree with the "Don't hold the phone like that then!" That was some insanely chutzpah,

This is the reason why Woz was not a CEO but a nerd in a back room. His business mind fails.
Exactly. I read the Steve jobs bio and woz wanted to give away the Mac designs for other hackers. While he seems like a kid guy, that doesn't make any business sense.

woz was good for helping start apple and that was about it lol they kicked his ass to the curb like bert and ernie on sesame street, you still see them once a while but they are now just side characters.

Maybe, who knows really. I mean it is a corporation and i never expect corporations to be goodwill ambassadors so whether or not they make something i want them to make, i keep no expectations. Voting will wallet is the best option and apple still got is going though.

His opinion doesn't mean android is the answer everyone is looking for though. If it were true, i would not have sold my GS3 and instead bought an iPhone 5. If anything has to replace the iPhone again in future, it is going to be windows phone or Blackberry 10/QNX. Been with android since Eclair, and frankly don't find it much different or radical for my uses except i can drag and drop without iTunes and do mad amount of customization on it. But those are not the deal breakers i am looking for.

Forget the phone for a sec

If you don't think about the actual hardware for a moment.

I can imagine a real risk for Apple. They are advertising iOS features and techologies by saying "We know how this and that is done, other's just do it the old way."

This worked great. Apple has been leading by reducing features and making existing ones simple. App Sanboxing, iCloud (which is not a file storage), theeir own vecor based maps and so on.

In some sense this has been really great, because it made iOS perform so well. Other solutions are way too customizable and complicated to use or they don't work properly at all.

But this is exatcly the one thing that really might backfire in the future.

If only one competitor has an idea (not a hardware advantage) that excites a lot of possible users, people will shift away from iOS really really fast.

The specialisation Apple has applied to MacBook's, iPhones and iPad might someday be the cause for its downfall.

It might still be a great product line, but people will simply move on to something else.

This is exactly what happened to RIM. They had GREAT technology with regards to messaging. They thought they never need to change anything.

But people moved on.

People take what apple give them point blank. From what I read on here before the iPhone dropped people wanted a 4.3" phone. Now all of a sudden they are happy with the schlong version. IMO people just buy the iphone to fit in and think they are cool. Its not even about function anymore whith this breed of follower. Just like all these idiots who line up for the same pair of jordans when they drop. Keep settling for less and you will get less.

The real know what I'm trying to say. I cant express my disgust enough over the long stupid looking iPhone 5 with crappy iOS 6. Have a nice day. :)

They thought they never need to change anything.

That's another way of saying the company doesn't take risks.

Apple DOES take risk. When the rumoured iPhone was in the pipeline, people were saying it was going to eat into iPod sales. Who would buy a $300 iPod when a subsidized iPhone can be had for $200 they said.

And iPhone, in 2007 it was a completely new animal in the Apple portfolio, they NEVER made a phone, new to the cellular business.

Granted, iPhone, after 5 years, seems not have changed much (in swift tech world), but well u know what, Apple maybe moving to SOMETHING else!

They are gonna crack the TV world, so it's rumoured.

Compared to MS, basically a 1-product company, the OS is its cash cow since forever. HP, even worse, if it wasn't for its printers' revenue I don't know where would they be now.

Apple, the last decade has shown, they go into new business, and that's risk. Now u can argue if after Jobs.... but that's another post.
