Crossing my fingers....

We've all seen the rumors of iOS 7 described as a total UI overhaul and being black and white, flat all over. My fear is that we will still have the same screens with the rows of tired old icons. I think removing the gloss and depth will make it even more dated if this is the design that was chosen. I hope Apple has really outdone themselves on this OS. Otherwise we will have a brand new iOS that is black and white, cr*p all over...

I find the search function quite useful. Especially when you have a lot of apps and contacts. I use it mainly for that.

Yeah I'm not saying to remove it. It can be useful to find an app when they get buried in a folder. But I'd still go for the option to remove it if I could and add a widget page. That would be dope.

Here's what I would LIKE to see:

1. More Widget Support, and not just on the Notification Center, but on a separate Springboard screen/tab and even on the Lockscreen.

2. Animated/Interactive Icons. We already have this on our Jailbroken phones with tweaks like Live Clock and Weathericon. Flat, Lifeless Icons do NOTHING for me.

3. Animated Backgrounds - again, Jailbrakers to the rescue.

Apple makes such high quality devices...and then puts REALLY BASIC, FEATURELESS SOFTWARE ON THEM!!!!

They simply need to get more interesting.

Exactly, so presumably it will do a much better job of playing music you actually like versus the competitors like spotify and pandora, which do not have access to your library to come up with better predictions.

"Also bought", "Genius" and skips along with much better metadata and links from the old Lala database AND itunes Match collections would be killer for this kind of thing. If they restore the follows from Lala/Ping that would be even more data for the system. particularly if they open it up to all artists.

And then eventually they could move it into tv shows, movies, books with similar following of actors, directors, writers. Put up real artist pages and for franchises and tv shows actual series pages.

So much potential particularly if they get everything together

I'd rather Apple not bother with any of that glitter and actually improve core services and functionality.

I agree with your #1, #2 to some extent, but flatter icons could be nice, and as for #3, I don't think much of animated backgrounds. Maybe if I was in Jr. High (no offense). If Apple gave us the option, that's fine, I just think there are other things to focus on besides useless eye candy.

Completely agree. Though Apple was slow to the scene, they have the potential to make the service much more appealing than their competitors. Perhaps Google can give them a run for their money, but I don't see how spotify and pandora will keep up long term.

What we need is a quick way to toggle features -- maybe we don't even HAVE to, like:

• automatic personal hotspot shut off when you have wifi on your iPhone and on your mac (it detects that both devices are on the same network so the iPhone doesn't bother sharing via wifi with the mac when the mac already has it!)

• automatic 4G when driving (iPhone detects accelerated movement and will not try to connect to wifi hotspots along the way).

And there are plenty other power-saving features ... like, how about your iPhone learns your work schedule so it knows when you make calls and when you don't? Or knows when you use wifi most?

List goes on...

One things I really wish iOS offered, or could get via an app, are timed profiles like on my old Nokia dumbphone. A profile I would want would be called "Work", and I would activate it when I leave for work and it would keep WiFi shut off and keep phone on silent/vibrate until a set time (7pm, etc). This would also save the battery. Another profile could be Outdoor, where everything is louder etc.

It's called "Genius" and it's not an app.

Also - I'm sure the NSA has a solid database of our Music Library tastes too.

lol

Exactly, genius belongs to Apple. Now, since you said they were dozens of apps with the same abilities, how about you name one with "Genius" abilities. And let's just ignore the red herring with the NSA.

Twas the before WWDC, when all through Moscone
Not a creature was stirring out even a developer
The banners were hung by the windows with care
In hopes that Sir Jony Ive soon would be there.

The developers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of flat, minimalistic iOS 7 danced in their heads...

One thing in particular that would help is getting their metadata in line. THey need to steal a page from like every library in the country. Particularly the notion of name authority. It's not even amusing that porn novels and mixing in with kids books cause the two authors have the same first and last name. Or two actors have their stuff jumbled up cause of similar names. If libraries, SAG etc can sort it out why hasn't Apple, plus getting all listings together for a person (ex Tom Felton was in all 7 harry potter films, not just the 4 he's listed under). And for anyone how about tv guest spots, audiobooks, podcasts etc

Taking an existing feature and simply linking it to a streaming radio program doesn't exactly get me excited because it's ultimately just another bridge to the iTunes Store.

what core services specifically? Just curious.

Well, just quickly off the top of my head.

#1: Unified notification center. So when I read something on one device, all my devices register it. So let's say I clear off an iMessage on my iPhone, it clears it from the iPad and computer. Same with emails, etc. I shouldn't have to clear each one individually, effectively doing the same thing 3+ times.

#2: iCloud that actually works properly. iLife and iWork should have complete feature parity across platforms and sync all files without any loss of data or functions, all seamlessly. Similarly, iBooks and Preview should be integrated and my pdfs and ebooks should sync across all my devices, keeping my notes, bookmarks, etc. in sync. Again, similarly, my podcasts, itunes U, etc. should sync across all devices and look the same.

#3: Unified Safari. Safari should be updated to include all features on the full-blown version. I.e. extensions and other features like better cookie and plugin management (think white lists) should be added into mobile safari and the full safari. Next, all history, bookmarks, keychains, etc. should be synced across all devices.

In short I want a unified experience no matter where I am interacting in my Apple environment. I want to pick up where I left off, no matter what device I happen to pick up, so that I can focus on my actual work and stop wasting time trying to keep everything configured and in sync.

I'm looking forward to iRadio. I just hope they don't go overboard on the flat design of iOS 7 and make it look cruddy like Windows 8 or the new YouTube layout.
