Oh good! Tim, I can help. This is for your next briefing:

The things that would benefit Apple would be:
- an optimized, less confusing GUI
- stable software
- great hardware (including for pros)

The things that would threaten Apple are:
- a portfolio that is too big to handle
- buggy software
- little innovation
- bad customer service

Love, an Apple Customer.

I love how some members now seem to have almost a manifesto in their avatar sig eg see this one - adds to the rich and diverse nature of this lovely forum......

Services. Services. Services.

Eddy Cue is now the most important and influential person at Apple and a cert to be the next CEO.
The image I have of Mr Cue is flipping burgers on the grill in the back yard of his Cupertino mansion - all the while listening to U2 (!) blasting from his outdoor sound system.

Cool, let me know when I can get HBO for $10 without buying a $150-200 streaming box or a brand new TV

i get the impression that it’s $9.99 for each service. It’s still cheaper than subscribing to each individually now though, HBO Now is $14.99/month.
So who is making up the difference? Apple or HBO?

Eddy Cue always walks on stage like he just teleported from a Las Vegas casino and is surprised to be where he is but rolls with it. I hope he's not the next CEO and they get someone more tech-minded.

Maybe Scott Forstall will come back and save the company. If only it needed saving . . . they have too much money to appeal to the people they won over when Steve Jobs first came back. Apple was at its best when it was on the ropes. They had an infusion of amazing software by acquiring NeXT. Now I can't even get Disk Utility to work and I prefer pretty much every third party app compared to Apple's equivalent offering.
Why do you think Scott Forstall would be the savior of Apple? What’s so special about him? I think it’s telling no other major tech company hired him after he left Apple.

He became an award-winning Broadway director.

Do we need another Amazon Prime? Is this what Apple had *in the pipeline"?
News App? Have you learned nothing from Facebook?

Looks set to be the dullest Apple keynote of all time.
Apple watch gen 1?
[doublepost=1553476482][/doublepost]This will be the biggest hit since You Tube Red--whatever that is

Just FYI, Tim Cook is probably not spending his Sunday perusing the MR forums in hopes of getting advice on how to run Apple from some anonymous stranger who can barely run his own life.
Maybe he should. Tim should be listening more to what the people who buy his products have to say but the only time Apple listens is when there is bad press involved....

Scott for the map, Angela for the luxary price (also retail service), then who will be the next?

I'm paying $5 extra for HBO on DirectTV Now. That's in addition to $65 for package including 105 channels, although if I didn't miss the promo period by couple of months I'd be paying only $40 now.

I’m subscribed to HBO but I did it through apple which I suspect millions have. So perhaps they have leverage in that sense. Not having to sign up with a different account, creating another user account, with another separate billing to track is quite convenient in today’s streaming age.

This doesn't make any sense for HBO. I subscribe to HBO's $15/mo. service, and if I can get the same thing for $10/mo. through Apple, I'm going there. Why would they go 100% of $15/mo./subscriber to a percentage of $10/mo./subscriber? I'd imagine there's a few people in the boat with me on the math.

I agree, it doesn't make sense. Maybe the $10 per month price requires subscription to Apple's service as well.

All this is, is Amazon channels repackaged for ppl with Apple devices. Amazon has had this for a long time. My suspicion is this special pricing of $10 a month will be for ppl to use only on Apple devices.

Amazon charges $15 per month for HBO, same as HBO's direct-to-consumer product HBO Now. The $10 price for HBO through Apple would be a pretty serious discount. My suspicion is people will have to be subscribed to Apple's service ($30-40 per month) to have access to that $10 HBO price.

That was my point though. This is basically Apple copying what Amazon did for ppl with fire tv boxes and sticks. It is not like it is revolutionary. And it is true that HBO is more with Amazon. But alot of other premiums are less than $9.99. So it adds up to the same by the time you package them all.

They aren't copying Amazon with that. HBO Now has been available forever through Apple TV.

The general rule of thumb is "Apple" and "cheaper than...." do not ever go together.
One exception. 4K video was offered for $5 less than purchases through Vudu, Amazon, and Google at the time. I believe Google and Amazon has changed pricing since Apple made the move while Vudu has remained the same ($24.99).

You completely missed my point. Amazon has had the ability to subscribe to different channels through Amazon forever. So basically Apple is doing the same business model for Apple customers. The prices may vary. But the idea behind it is basically the same.

I'm not missing your point. I am telling you that Apple has had the same damn thing forever. You are acting like they copied someone else. In fact, HBO Now was exclusive to Apple TV back in 2015. Why do you seem to think people are not able to access that content through Apple right now? Hell, I re-subscribed to HBO through my iPhone several weeks ago. This is not a hard thing to do through Apple, right now...regardless of the "new" service.

Back to MY point. $10 per month for HBO does not make sense. That is a 33% discount over what people are currently paying for it through Apple and every other service that provides it. I suspect to get the $10 price, people have to also shell out $50 per month for Apple's other TV service.

This is absolutely crazy. I wouldn't trust that guy to manage a yard sale, let alone a major portion of revenue for the biggest company in the world.
Let's talk about your professional accomplishments. Do you also run the service aspect of a multibillion dollar company? I take it by your comment you're saying you could do a better job than he?

Now I'm not saying I like Eddy or think he's leading the company in the right direction, but to imply you'd do a better job is far fetched.

This forum has a lot of armchair fortune 500 executives.

In my region, Apple Music's family plan is cheaper than Spotify's by a few cents. Yes, just about 20cents cheaper each month. But still, "Apple is cheaper than Spotify" in this case LOL.
[doublepost=1553483960][/doublepost]I personally think this video subscription services will be divided into mini packs. Movie packs, TV shows packs, sports and general entertainment packs. Each pack would contain a few bundled subscription, and you may choose those packs according to your preference. Any subscription would include all the Apple's original contents you can enjoy (or not).

Yes I will be a little disappointed with this scheme as I expected something more like Netlix. Well, it is a good start and it could change in the future. I will see into the pricing scheme.
