What you do with clearing 3 names is give 3 sequential targets with the guard having to guess which one to protect and possibly getting it wrong. No matter how you structure it, you're going to create a list of more ideal candidates for the wolves to target. It's mostly a play of if you want the highest odds to get someone on day one versus the most informative list late in the game to help decision making. If you choose half the field, the wolves can't realistically kill all of them, and it gives them less wiggle room further down the road if they're still alive.

Yes, you alter the odds for the subsequent days, but only until the wolves have exhausted the list of people you singled out. Perhaps one would want to choose the smaller of half the field or the number that would result in villagers and wolves being equal in number after n consecutive hangings and wolf kills, so as to engineer superior odds over the norm for each of those days.

but you also have some people who are cleared and who can be trusted during the next few days, even if they become obvious targets.
and already being a target in some cases allows a more open use of the power

picking a larger field would be great only if they were all cleared, but the chances of that grow thin very very fast.

basically in a small field you hope for a yes, in a large field you hope for a no

If you want that balanced approach, then choosing 3 out of 17 is probably best. It ultimately comes down to how well the village uses the information about the people that was asked.

I vote for 3. We can't worry about the infection so much just yet. The pool is too large for much in the way of indicators, we'd effectively be giving ourselves a couple of days head start. In the event of some luck, also forcing the wolves hand early.

Let's do it!

Yes, but revealing themselves at night would be unwise. It'd be a private power use then.

i agree it would be unwise, because might as well wait till morning 9evening) so the infection -if it occurs- and the morpher -if present as a ww- would be possibly involved, but they could ask the question publicly also at night if they wanted, no?
it doesn't have to be a private question at night, since it is dual/anytime.
same for all other dual/anytime roles

But couldn't the wolves change targets and pick off the only cleared player(in this case being the Oracle)? That would not benefit us. At least if the Oracle decides to come out tomorrow, then we have a day to sit on information.

(am I making sense, if not, I'm sorry. I haven't sleep for two days straight)

yes, that is another good reason that they should wait till morning :)
although i am not sure if the gods would not still answer the question anyway.

the only drawback in waiting, is that s/he might not be still alive to ask the question (although with necromancer and scavenger possibly in play, that might not be a 'final' issue)

and get some sleep.
we need you bright and sharp come sunset :)

Alas! My fellow villagers conspired to murder me during my slumber. Little did I know that their instruments of death would be pointed at me so early in the game. Ah well, good villagers, remember me, and avenge my death! In the meantime, I'll grab the popcorn and watch as everything falls apart. It's just about as entertaining to watch the progression of the game as to be in it :)

Arguably though, how would the necromancer know how to revive if the Oracle hasn't been revealed? ;)

alright, final tally will be presented from now on (night1 : fenris' list, will edit post later today), note that the buff, if in play, will be represented via public vote.

note to the greater gg: dp's being difficult

Whether it is 'day' or 'night' in this universe, this is the time of bitten nails, and the cold, dribbling tension of waiting for stuff (including Nasty Stuff) to happen.

You know - everyone knows - that the 'Night' is a period of wild subterranean activity, while on the surface, deceptive tranquillity reigns. But not for long…..
