Sigh. I am at home on a wet drizzly Friday morning at home, for a break of just over a week, and so have time to catch my breath. Yes, I followed the thread, but only fleetingly since Tuesday evening.
Brilliant game, all round, and exceedingly well done, chrmjenkins, for handling all of that so well and so fairly.
I think that the extra roles allow for a much more engaged form of participation from many players, rather than the old 'Chosen Few' version, where most villagers simply sat around waiting to be killed, unless they survived long enough to acquire sufficient information to be able to make a useful contribution.
Moreover, as, under the new roles & rules, almost everyone has some sort of motivation for participating, there tends to be far less of the bad tempered bickering of the sort I recall spoiling the atmosphere of some games past after decisions of the GG were challenged or disputed. Likewise, it does tend to allow for a more even balancing of the sides.
Nevertheless, I find myself laughing at the irony that my protection of DP meant that - while obviously, the wolves wanted to kill him, the internal dynamics of the game meant that this act of murder kept having to be deferred, and, most unusually - and absolutely key for the village - he managed to survive until the very end.
Having said that, the village got a few lucky breaks; QoS was superb and excellent. Another break - but good selection of names despite the emphasis on gender - included the four names asked by the Oracle, which included mine, the very night I got infected.
Actually, that was indeed a very busy night, in every way.
To answer QoS: You cannot believe how busy I have been (well, you can). Suffice to say real life and virtual roles were intersecting, in odd ways. That night, (Monday) I checked my emails, and glanced at MR, while retrieving another bottle of wine for a dinner party with good friends (as in people who are much more than colleagues) I was helping to host.
We were discussing matters political - my main topic of conversation these days (actually most of the time). On my return, wine bottle in hand, (mounting tension outside), I informed my guests that I had been infected in an online game. They were amazed, delighted, fascinated, thrilled, and stupefied (in general, this group of wonderful people are a fair bit younger than I am), and wanted to know more; let us just say that anyone meeting me would not conclude that I have any sort of online identity, let alone a vibrant alternative life, full of life and death and laughter, anywhere. Anyway, I told them about my infected self, and they roared with laughter.
So, QoS, while I am normally 'pissed ' (in 'English' English we make a distinction between 'pissed off' - which means very annoyed - and 'pissed' which means intoxicated; ordinarily, both usages would have described me that night; however, I as I was busy with work, enjoying my alcoholic dinner, and deeply distracted, I was merely 'pissed' rather than seriously 'pissed off'.
An aside: I will say that I had voted for jav6454 on day 1 (thus identifying my nemesis, yet again, correctly); for the third time, he has successfully nobbled me in a game (alas, we know each other too well).
It is known I don't much care for the WW roles; I don't. This is because, in general, they are very hard work, as to participate properly (and I believe that those of us who sign up, should try to participate properly by posting, rather than disappearing for days on end) while yet playing forcefully on your selected (by choice or otherwise) alignment calls for the ability to try to hide in plain sight, and lying consistently yet plausibly, which are fascinating - but demanding - skills.
Re travelling: I was travelling, genuinely, this was not a convenient excuse but was - and is - fact. My work requires that I travel a lot, but this is a break I was almost ordered to take (with my full agreement; I am pretty wrecked at the moment).
Once again, great game, fantastic fun, - despite my infection - and well done one and all. Congrats villagers, and very good game WWs.
