Thank you for the kind words we've gotten from you and ohers.

I understand that you'd be glad to see the main news page return as quickly as possible, but our forums remain open during live events, and people have been discussing this event all day. There was no need to wait until after the keynote.

The guys on the arstechnica forums (I...err...was in the neighbourhood and dropped in accidentally..) have been singing your praises too.

Especially impressive getting the pseudo-live pictures up at the same time! Well done.

I wonder if there's an option to turn off the iTunes finder. I like the new browsing abilities but the thing looks way too clunky, especially for multiple windows. Also I'd like to turn of the Vista-copied toolbar. I hope there are customization options for the above built into the OS so I don't have to rely on third party apps to get rid of the "new UI"

I have no doubt of that. But I don't want to buy one now and by 10.5's release they have a new one on the market... and the 10.5 benefits really are cheese unless you get mesmerized by trinkets.

If some amazing Mac comes out in the fall maybe I'll purchase, but I decided to stay since upgrades coming could be more beneficial.

I'm not sure what your point is. If you don't need a mac now then sure, wait for Leopard to ship and buy a mac then. Personally, I think the combo of a mac pro (whether they have newer versions by then or not) and Leopard will be a killer combination, even if it's just for the 64 bit support. Maybe 64 bit isn't useful to you...but that doesn't make it "cheese".

No mention of iLife or iWork.:(

Why would you expect that at this event? Are they part of the OS? Do *developers* need to know details of those two packages? Those will likely ship along with leopard, and like previous OS releases, they'll announce details when they ship or shortly before.

Yeah it does look Vista-ish, a little.
I was unimpressed.
I'm going to have to be REALLY sold on this one.
The recently introduced and rehash of features do not constitute a "must-buy" for me.

Now I'm starting to wonder when the event where they announce everything they sat on today will be.

August?

What was on the banner that was covered?

Does anyone know? Is it still covered? I don't see any mention of the unveiling.

I'm with you on this.

Screw ADC..They get NO MORE of my money.

I agree. I'm going to try and get a refund on my 6 months old subscription. At this point I'm going to be 5 months behind on development! They can't honestly expect all of the developers to just stop and wait until October!

It will probably just be something to do with what we've heard already... The Safari port or somethin...

Would be good to have it confirmed though - is there any chance SJ will make another appearance this week with a product release? i.e. Apple update Tuesday???

What are the chances?

As many post here on these forums are, speculation was the possibility of these packages possibly no longer being stand alone but actually becoming part of the OS. iChat is not part of the OS, why was it being discussed?

We saw the photos of the hanging banners draped in black to hide their content. Anyone know what they were hiding?

Can't seem to get an answer on this. Odd, because there was so much made about these banners...

this sucks

i lost 100 dollars in apple stocks

they didnt announce anything that would make them money

hopefully later this month it will kick back up

Buy some more shares now, while the price is low. Who knows, they might release new hardware tomorrow!

Just think of Leopard as the same as going from XP SP1 to XP SP2. It'll help ease the pain a bit.

I think September and october will be key months for many products announcements/updates.

September(Paris)
• iMac
• MacMini

October (starting Xmas season shopping)
• Leopard unveil
• new Displays, thinner enclosure, maybe iSight BTO (tied to Leopard's independent resolution)
• MacPro same enclosure (new interior architecture and more powerful graphic cards)
• iPod 6G widescreen.
• iPod nano and Shuffle increase storage.

at least I hope so!:D

I don't know why but for most of the keynote i felt like Steve's Time Machine
actually works... IM IN WWDC 2006 AGAIN (+some sweet safari)

in one word: Boring (not disappointed because there were some cool things
out there.. but none of them had "WOWed" me like previous keynotes.. :(

While it's not part of the OS, iChat is installed with the OS, not with iLife or iWork. Has apple ever talked about iLife or iWork apps months in advance?

does safari 3 has new tab button ? if not could anyone explain to me why apple is not adding it ?

what's going on with you guys? what are you complaining about?
This is the wwdc not the keynote. It's about SOFTWARE. (a mac is NOT software ;) )
We've got a new finder. The changes of Leopard are amazing. I saw once the early beta of leopard with the integrated help, which was the first help which is done the way i like it and how i would implement such a function.
Spaces is great. It's wonderful to have multidesktops. Stacks are also cool. And hey, we've got even safari for windows.
Leopard is a big change. From the outside, the car is maybe just a little bit tuned, but under the hood, it's a next generation motor - which will give us some really great tools. And this is what matters. Be patient, it will be great.

Hmm.. I knew people would be pissed off today. No matter what came out people wouldn't be happy. Steve can't make everyone happy..

If I remember correctly over on the topic about the 'mysterious' banner I told folks that there was an excellent chance that nothing would come out today. I said that the keynote would focus on Leopard (I was right). I said that Steve would mention and perhaps talk about the iPhone for about 15 minutes since it is the biggest launch he has had in several years (again.. right, actually overshot it as I don't think he even gave 15 minutes.. maybe, but not more than that).

I also said that there would be no new iPod because developers for the most part come to this conference not to buy new toys, but to learn what is coming in order to be more successful in developing tools/stuff for Macs. I didn't think that they would put an ultraportable out there with this keynote because again.. It doesn't fit the developer 'niche'. Sure.. It is cool and developers 'might' use it, but for the most part it is a consumer idea.

I did think that there was a shot that we would get an iMac Pro (brushed metal, etc...) I still think that is coming, but not this week. Maybe Paris... Maybe christmas, but I bet it comes out before the end of the year.

I, personally, wasn't impressed with the keynote, but then again I also didn't have very much high hopes for it either. I wasn't disapointed (in other words). I do think that some of the features that he showed could have been a little more 'cool'. I don't think there was anything there that really blew me away. I was a little impressed with the .mac integration with other machines and stuff.. I will probably invest in .mac after Leopard comes out just because I travel a lot and to me that looked very useful so that I can still do development work on my desktop and not have to worry about which version makes it on the laptop before the trip, etc...

Well.. everyone continue the bitching.. Have a good day! I, for one, will just say that I wasn't unhappy, but not all that happy either.

Safari for Windows is actually a remarkably aggressive play.

The relationship this will form and the trust that will develop will ultimately soften the average windows users world view of Apple and Apple products which are increasingly not exclusively mac-centric. it maybe that the mac has 3% market share world wide but ti's clear that they intend for Apple TV, Ipod and Iphone to be world leaders.

Safari is a fantastic bridge between Apple and the world of Windows users who may not YET have purchased an Apple product. one thing is for sure if Safari really is the greatest web browser on Windows they will gain an awful lot of goodwill.

Leopard is nice and cool and there are a few nice evolutions in their without reinventing the wheel

i don't say it loud, but safari3 beta is not a beta. it's an alpha. it crashes to often to get goodwill. that's the sad news. but generally i agree with you.

does safari 3 has new tab button ? if not could anyone explain to me why apple is not adding it ?

Safari 2 already has a key command for new tab, it's command T. Why do you need a button, just use the key command.
