I'm just as curious to know if the screen is now plastic, or if it still glass as before...

Screen is glass, as it is a Capacitive screen, (much more responsive than a plastic Resistive screen) which is yet another reason why I would not consider an LG, RIM, or Samsung.

I sure hope not. That domain name is gross. If they change my @mac.com address to @me.com i will switch to gmail. Me.com sounds retarded.
In the guided tour of MobileMe, the woman's e-mail address said "@me.com." So maybe new accounts will have @me.com, and the older accounts from .Mac will continue to be @mac.com but run on MobileMe.

I wouldn't mind- I'd end up with an easy to remember and cool email address

stopscreaming @me.com or quitlooking @me.com as I have both registered @mac.com

sure beats the hell out of dave2346795@whatever as the easiest and best are always taken

Say that now, but I really think Me will take off, and will become a known brand.

Give it 6 months and I think @me.com would sound really cool.

I wonder if Apple will allow another alias so I can start using @me.com too :D

Maybe the fact that neither I nor the post I quoted mentioned anything about the rate plans and that I don't have to use the word 'if' when I'm discussing the price of the phone. We can discuss the rate plans all day long if they change, but until then we really have nothing to talk about.

Now...if you want to discuss the original post's theory that Apple engineers are a bunch of 'buttholes' that hold back their features so they can release them 6 months later at a "premium price"--which, as I mentioned, is factually incorrect--then we have something to talk about.

If, however, you want to continue to talk about the rate plans I only have one question...

The price of the phone went down, yeah?
Yes, the hardware went down. I have never disagreed with you on this. It's an absolute fact the price of the phone went down. All I'm trying to say is you should consider the total cost of ownership.

They'd have to.

Apple won't suddenly change people's email addresses! Unless they offer the option to change and have all emails to the @mac email forwarded.

whiners

Some people will never be happy.

Apple slashes the price of the iPhone, improve the thing with 3G, GPS and better battery life and people still find reasons to complain.

Sure many of the requests people are asking here are nice. I would love 32gig storage by the way. But hey, now I can buy two iPhones for the price of one and if in 6 months 32gig comes out, I can go and buy one without feeling so bad.

chill out people.

@me or @mac.com

apple just sent out an email to all @mac.com members.

"As a MobileMe subscriber, you can continue to use your mac.com address for email. You will also be issued a me.com address with the same user name that you can use if you prefer. The choice is yours"

Thank god i wont have to be embarassed at giving out my email address.

Yeah I posted this about 100 posts ago on this thread. People don't pay attention though, this will probably just get buried too. :p

I registered the following on hearing the me.com rumor the other week

stopscreaming
quitlooking
stoppointing
laughwithmelaugh
areyoustaring
pleaselook

So a choice of cool email addresses to choose from. Sure someone would pay for one of those- will try ebay to see what happens

Because apple is owner of itunes dude... believe me they dont want trouble with music companies ... imagine that you could pass your songs from one ipod to another by bluetooth... music companies would get really really pissd off

You would have to use file finder software or some sort of push software to transfer specific files.

The specific use of bluetooth that I am infuriated about is lack of stereo bluetooth music PLAYBACK.

An iPhone is an iPod as well. The phone will use a bluetooth earpiece, but the iPod bit won't play to bluetooth headphones, only via the speakerphone speaker, or over wired headphones, which you would have to carry in addition to or instead of a wireless bluetooth earpiece.

I don't want to carry lots of accessories, and I do use my bluetooth hands-free. Why can I not use it with both ears, to also listen to music, or broadcast bluetooth music to my stereo or car stereo?

C'mon. This feature is a no brainer, and MANY other phones have worse music players, but do have this feature...

The hardware is there. PUT THE SOFTWARE IN PLACE.

Is 3G version compatible with Entourage?

In the first version of the iPhone, the setup instructions said you could activate using Microsoft Entourage. Does anyone know if this is still the case in the new version?

Design is a step back

Metal > plastic. Lower price = lower build quality. I'll still buy one, though :p cough cough hypocrite.

Fusion for the rest of us

This could be announced tomorrow:

A Mac Nano, an upgrade to the Mini, dubbed Fusion, could very well be the Mini upgrade we were all waiting for. Those two "Golden Gate" bridges seem to bear more significance now.

I think with this release of the iPhone, Apple has positioned themselves to be marketable with the medical community and large businesses. This is a great business move and they have paid lots of attention to what businesses want. Now Apple needs to focus on what I want most, a 32GB and (down the road) a 64GB model so I can store more music and movies on my iphone. But I have this feeling that it will be a year away and I am going to do what most of us will do, enjoy the iPhone as it is now. At least the price has dropped so its not as bad as plopping down $600 bucks for a 1st gen iphone or what I think is worse for the ipod touch when now the new and improved iphones are 1/2 the price.

My main question right now: Can I enable 3g only for web browsing and "talk" on 2g so my battery life remains high? It would be pretty cool if you could do that. I hope it is smart enough where it will enable 3g for safari, but keep it on 2g for phone. Anyone know?

Lighter, slimmer, and better overall reception>Metal. Lower price = subsidy through AT&T, not necessarily lower build quality.

There will likely be a preference utility developed to do just that soon.
