Uh, dude, the price of the phone went down.

You know for all the belly aching. I have had alot of the "smartphones" out there through the years, and i must say even though the iphone didnt come with half the crap I wouldnt end up using anyways. Its the best phone I could of asked for. I used everything on it, and everything on it worked well. Unlike other phones that have so much crap on them and you cant figure out or dont have the time to dink around to make them work. Apple did not no release these features to hurt you. They probbibly dont even know you. Apple will not include anything they do not feel comfortable about. You have to thank them for that. What they do implement is quality and i appreciate it.

Att

My brother just talked to a local ATT store (Louisville, KY). He is one year into his current ATT contract. The rep told him that to upgrade to the new iPhone he'd have to cancel his current contract, pay the early termination fee of $175 and then sign a new contract. Of course he told him to go fly a kite. Those instructions are contradictory to what is currently on ATT's website, but could this guy be correct for the new phone??

I was expecting some more :(

Im kind of dissapointed.... i thought there was something more coming out besides iPhone 3G. but the iPhone 3G seems nice i loved the new prices i only wonder what´s gonna happen to ipod touch

This isn't about what apple promised, no one feels like apple cheated them lol. Apple owes nothing to anyone, BUT, they have a reputation of wowing and surprising their customers. In fact, its part of what Apple is all about, and it IS their job to appeal to customers... and their customers expected to be wowed...

This didn't "wow", in fact, I actually expected more than the features that should have been there to begin with being added. Maybe next year will "wow" us with something...

Not impressed this year overall... there's been some good stuff but very little to wow... though the Air was impressive. However I do think next year will be big... Snow Leopard as the first MultiTouch OS I predict... Multitouch tablet device... Nehalem chips in all Macs and appropriate updates.. Maybe a true "iPhone 2" that adds more wow factor (even better and more advanced multitouch, faster processor/more ram allowing better applications and a more advanced OS on the iPhone, video conferencing, 5 megapixel camera, 64gb, better battery still, etc.)

And hopefully before next year... new cinema displays, full blu-ray support, redesigned macbooks, etc.

Not the things I wanted

I had a small list of things I was hoping for...just a few, but alas, none arrived:

1. Flash support of some limited kind.
2. Sync of ToDo items with a ToDo app. (perhaps some 3rd party will deliver)
3. MMS, SMS forwarding
4. Copy / Paste
5. iChat

Also very upset that we have another month to wait before we get ANYTHING!

For those who don't already own an iPhone, today is a good day as you're learning you can get one for half as much as you expected to pay. For the rest of us, I guess I'll rely on third party developers.

...despite the glitzy presentation and all the supposedly neauvaux features (both of which are debatable lol) the only thing Apple guaranteed today was a lower grade of consumer buying its product.

Period.

Lower grade of consumer buying its product. I do not have words for how big of loser you are. Get a gun and go shoot yourself!

Shall I analyze and dissect your screen/nickname lol? Hilarious!!! Dude, find something else better to do....like, oh I dunno, peruse the Apple website and read all the super-detailed (lol) information that is now available for the brand, spankin' new PLASTIC iphone 3G!!

Seriously, dude...I don't usually even respond to people like you. I just let you have your say and move on---yanno, like civilized people are supposed to do!! No, seriously. No reply necessary. And if you can't be man (or it is transgender?) enough to do so, then I will! Watch n see. When you reply to this comment I won't respond back. Watch.

I really don't think there's any dissection necessary. It refers to the S600 sedan that is in this country under Mercedes-Benz's United States division. Is that all? I don't even know what you're talking about with a suggestion that I read the information about the iPhone on the Apple site. If you think the new iPhone "sucks" so much, then don't buy it and stop whining. Surely for someone as high-class as you, you can afford one of the unique phones that will really show everyone how great you are.

I think it's funny that you're trying to lecture me on being a man. Real men don't need cell-phones to distinguish themselves. I am absolutely going to reply to your posts because someone needs to call them out for the puerile horse-**** that they are.

You can choose not to reply if you wish. I'm not asking that you do. In fact, the less you post, the better you look; whenever you do reply to anything, it's normally something we would expect from a sixteen year old girl who has never accomplished anything noteworthy on her own and relies on something her father did to claim she's high class.

It's a lot of work, takes about 30 minutes. Here's what you do (and I do every day, and boy I never thought to post on a forum crying like you did).

Tap the number, as soon as the dialing screen comes up, hang up. Then go into recent calls, tap the arrow next to the number, add to new contact. Viola!

See? And I could do that 5 times in the time it took to write this damned post.

wow did you even read my post? let me know where i said i couldn't add a phone to my contacts. LOL, learn to read before you criticize someone, tool.

Exactly.

When the iPhone was released last year, the software and touch interface is what set it apart. The hardware was relatively lackluster for a high end mobile phone.

Here we are one year later, and we're barely at the hardware level we should have been at upon launch. GPS and 3G? How old are those technologies?

Now this is a good point.

For once, Apple has the opportunity to not play catch up with the iPhone and instead pioneer something that isn't found in every cell phone at every corner store, and they passed on it so they could cut the cost.

This is why Apple's stock is down on the day.

QFT

Apple really dropped the ball here. And honestly, first gen iPhone users should be very happy. The new phone offers no substantial reason to upgrade. The GPS implementation is somehow doubtful, and I remember being flamed for saying that 3G was necessary in the first gen.

Next big bummer is, that there is one more month of lost phone sales. What an incredibly stupid decision.

So thx Apple for pissing off your shareholders really hard!

No ichat tragedy

ichat for me was going to be the decider for buying the new iphone. What a disappointment. I suspect now that they are never going to enable ichat because it probably conflicts with the interests of the carriers. A sell out!

Horizontal Keyboard Orientation still missing...

The 3G and especially the GPS functionality are all excellent, and so are many features introduced during the WWDC (some to lesser extent than others), but I must admit I do lament Apple's resolution to abstain from introducing the capability to flip the keyboard orientation to horizontal in the device in applications that, much like Safari, tend to require it. It's a shame that horizontal keyboard orientation is still missing. I hope that at least 3rd party application developers will be manage (and dus will be allowed to) amend for Apple's rather staggering lack of foresight in this respect.
Also, why for Goodness' sake did Apple not extend the storage capacity of the upcoming iPhone?
Hopefully, at least full iWork/M$ Office compatibility does not denote iPhone's ability to read the respective formats, but also to write/edit documents in the formats in question.

Sorry, but if our horribly self-obsessed cell phone culture turned into a bunch of people yelling into their phones on a video conference at Starbucks I'd open a vein--and not necessarily mine.

Video calls are around in Europe for quite a while on the upper end phones, but indeed not really popular (partly for the reasons mentionned above). Also not very convenient keeping your phone in front of your face when walking, on the metro, ... Plus the fact that the video image is not THAT great. And this has nothing to do with the implementation of the feature on the phone, but with the transmission of the video through the mobile network. Anyway, the "lack" of the front camera is not really a disappointment for me. MMS though...

This is why Apple's stock is down on the day.

The reason it closed $4 lower today is that the release of the 3G iPhone was delayed. It dropped down $10 lower before the 3G was announced. Once announced, it shot back up near to where it opened, and dropped dramatically as soon as July 11th was announced. It has since recovered, and will likely fly after 7/11.

I agree with your post's basic sentiment,
BUT ask any teacher or professional and they will tell you that a 16 year old girl is more mature and a lot less clueless than a 16 year old boy!!
Wake up to the facts. it's teenage boys who lead the way in being clueless and immature!

EXACTLY! i didn't want a bunch of fancy crap and 3g isn't really worth the hit that i'd take to upgrade. i wanted the SIMPLE, LITTLE things that apple USED to be adept at maximizing. oh well, cool now i can see where my friends with iphones are on a map but i can't copy text. priceless.

Yes, I'm agreeing the the hardware went down, but if the data plans are jacked up, then it may still cost more in the long run. The hardware is only half of the equation here.

So the phone is getting better and cheaper?

It will sail this week because:
The Street loves the direction of low cost iPhones, enterprise options,
and worldwide roll out.
They don't care about MMS and video chat. LOL
And for the poster who wonders why it dropped;
An old Street axiom: "Buy on rumor, sell on fact!

Just because it wasn't mentioned in the keynote doesn't mean that copy/text and MMS won't come out with the 2.0 firmware. I realize that MMS and Video recording can be accomplished via third party apps but as far as I'm concerned, these should be implemented and supported by Apple. I'm actually surprised no bigwigs at AT&T aren't pitching a fit (wrt to MMS) because they charge me $1.25 per MMS sent to me by my idiot friends who think they've captured something worthwhile of sending. That's some sweet, sweet mint they're missing out on!
