I agree with your post's basic sentiment,
BUT ask any teacher or professional and they will tell you that a 16 year old girl is more mature and a lot less clueless than a 16 year old boy!!
Wake up to the facts. it's teenage boys who lead the way in being clueless and immature!

Although in some areas of developments that's true, when it comes to pure materialism and determining social status based on branded clothing and cell phones, in my experience the females are a lot worse. Your mileage may vary, however.

I had a small list of things I was hoping for...just a few, but alas, none arrived:

1. Flash support of some limited kind.
2. Sync of ToDo items with a ToDo app. (perhaps some 3rd party will deliver)
3. MMS, SMS forwarding
4. Copy / Paste
5. iChat

Also very upset that we have another month to wait before we get ANYTHING!

For those who don't already own an iPhone, today is a good day as you're learning you can get one for half as much as you expected to pay. For the rest of us, I guess I'll rely on third party developers.

I agree. Apple needs to release an SDK so the little things can be added. Oh...wait...

Is this why their stock is down more than 4% today?
Anyone who does not understand why Apple is down today should invest their money in the lottery. (hint)
Anyone who understands the market has been making a killing with AAPL these last few years playing the ups and downs.

So the phone is getting better and cheaper?
Again, the hardware is cheaper. Depending on your data plan and your carrier, the total cost of ownership may be less or more expensive than the previous iPhone with its data plan. What's so difficult to understand about this?

i agree

EXACTLY! i didn't want a bunch of fancy crap and 3g isn't really worth the hit that i'd take to upgrade. i wanted the SIMPLE, LITTLE things that apple USED to be adept at maximizing. oh well, cool now i can see where my friends with iphones are on a map but i can't copy text. priceless.

you are soo right...i guess they just made a big fuss about the iPhone the only real thing that changed were prices.....

Apple really dropped the ball here. Next big bummer is, that there is one more month of lost phone sales. What an incredibly stupid decision. So thx Apple for pissing off your shareholders really hard!

Actually, it was originally planned that the iPhone2 be released this week. A delay of delivery of materials to its Taiwanese manufacturing facilities caused the release date to be offset one month. Although unfortunate, the surge in 3G iPhone sales from July on will more than make up for the two months lost in sales, and at the same time, give lot's of us the opportunity to sell our 1st generations iPhones for a decent price.:)

(sigh)

Uh, dude, the price of the phone went down.

Dude, don't you "get it?" This is the 1st generation of the iphone 3G!! It's exactly the same formula Apple always uses.

Do you honestly think that is the be-all, end-all of the iphone brand?? I didn't think so.

They're gonna make as much money as they possibly can off of the commoners who are suckered into buying this version, then release an updated version in approximately 6 months with more memory (likely 2x), a more sturdy body (the return of aluminum?), and all the other stuff they "strategically" left out this time around.

Are you new to Apple or something? lol

(sigh) screw it, I don't know how else to explain it lol

Just don't let yourself get victimized. Wait. If you have a v.1 iphone, there's really no need to buy this one -- the software update will provide you with basically all you need!! Be patient. Something truly awesome this way comes (as opposed to this OBVIOUS sell-out crap they released today)!!

So don't fret. The aluminum back WILL return. The forward-facing camera WILL appear. Copy n paste WILL surface (although I'm not so sure it won't be possible somehow in the software update). MMS (whatever the hell that is...for whomever has a use for it lol) will make it's debut!!

You gotta outsmart Apple, that's all.

happy

well I for one am happy. I must be a bit of a peasant 'cos I don't have any apple products except for an ipod, and I have never laid eyes on a real iphone. I am just happy that I have access to this technology now. Maybe I too will start to be more discriminating when I own more apple products for a while.

But for now, I am so excited that finally, I can look at one for real and maybe even save up to buy one! I have been hanging out for this day, and I love it!!:):):)

Im not sure if i prefer the old design.

No doubt the new one does looks sleek, but I just prefer the brushed metal look of the first gen.

Perhaps its one of them ones you have to see in the flesh (much like the iMacs)

Maybe the fact that neither I nor the post I quoted mentioned anything about the rate plans and that I don't have to use the word 'if' when I'm discussing the price of the phone. We can discuss the rate plans all day long if they change, but until then we really have nothing to talk about.

Now...if you want to discuss the original post's theory that Apple engineers are a bunch of 'buttholes' that hold back their features so they can release them 6 months later at a "premium price"--which, as I mentioned, is factually incorrect--then we have something to talk about.

If, however, you want to continue to talk about the rate plans I only have one question...

The price of the phone went down, yeah?

yup, unless i can get $200 for my v1 and the data doesn't go up there's really not much reason for current owners to upgrade. my guess is it's a ploy to make it more cost effective for new users to switch. basically they just released a $400 iphone for everyone else ($200 + $200 to cancel verizon/sprint/tmobile contract).

Spoken like one who has never designed a thing in their life.

By the way, 'bourgeoisie' would have worked better.

I am pissed off and disappointed after owning an iPhone since the first day... I can't believe that Apple doesn't listen to us. At $199 they are going to sell 5 million phones in a week to new customers... That's all they care for... But how about the old customers who expected a lot more after a year of stupid rumors and useless fake pictures. Isn't Apple listening? My $499 iPhone dropped to $399 and now it's going to be worth $49 on eBay when the new one comes out. I will probably keep it as a back up, just in case but it pisses me and a dozen of my friends that we have nothing really special besides the 3G to upgrade to. Or should it be DOWNgrade, since my phone cost me double only 11 months ago...:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

What does Apple owe you or other early adopters? You bought a phone and a new one was introduced a year later. Well guess what- Sony Ericsson released a new model of my phone- am I upset or demanding they compensate me? No. Because the second I bought the phone I knew it was inevitable that a better model would be released.

And my phone is worth less now the new model is out- it's not unique!

Bluetooth

I have to say, the 3G Iphone looks great. As a Gen 1 owner, I am probably not going to upgrade soon. The GPS is really the only new function I want and I was hoping that Apple would open up full Bluetooth capabilities so that I could use a bluetooth receiver with my current phone. Any chance that this might happen?

its not going to happen

Noup don´t think it is ever going to happen :S it would bring apple some trouble with music companies

Haven't checked to see if anyone else has asked this but:

.Mac email is @mac.com, obviously Apple won't change that for existing customers, but for new ones, will it be @me.com?

I think this Keynote was a little disappointing but only because pretty much everything in it was either entirely expected or had already been leaked beforehand and the fact that nothing new is available as of today (ie: no iPhone 2.0, App Store or 3G iPhone).

Still, everything seems pretty nice. Snow Leopard will be a very good update for OSX, Mobile Me is kinda interesting, and the iPhone stuff all looked good.

just because there are not enough people here around that say that:
The new iPhone rocks. And I will be one happy buyer..
I just need to find a way to be patient for 1 month.

I see your point. Well, OTOH you could have made a nice earning, according to Tech Ticker from Yahoo:

"Meanwhile, it's worth noting both Nokia and Research In Motion shares rallied Monday, suggesting a lack of concern (at least immediately) about the 3G iPhone's affect on its biggest rivals."

Anyhow - good for me, as I'm taking a long look at other phones right now. I currently have to decide if I should rather get a LG Viewty, Secret or a Samsung F490. All cost me 120 € on a 25€ per month tarif.

Don't get me wrong. The iPhone is nice, but this second iteration is not the step forward I expected.

....

Interesting perspective. Why would they care?

Every other phone does this, and they're not in trouble with the music companies...

Because apple is owner of itunes dude... believe me they dont want trouble with music companies ... imagine that you could pass your songs from one ipod to another by bluetooth... music companies would get really really pissd off

I sure hope not. That domain name is gross. If they change my @mac.com address to @me.com i will switch to gmail. Me.com sounds retarded.
