I agree too that there is too much about the iPhone. Yeah, its a great product, but what about Macs (gosh darn it). :apple:

And I hope Snow Leopard makes it out before Windows 7 (just because).
As for any PeeCee folks here on the forum, get lost! (Still can't figure why PC people would even care to join a Mac forum, just to be a troll... I am not on a single Windows forum!)
I'm looking forward to Snow Leopard, not Windows 7 (the Mac OS X UI clone - yeah, it is - just not as good).

Because most people whom own an iPhone probably do not own a mac, like me.

Apple is catering to a whole new market, and the intend on keeping it, if you already own a mac, your not fresh profit to them. Sure most "mac lovers" will buy a new mac every few years, but Apple is loving a new market that they can dominate, the computer market is FULLY saturated, not as much wiggle room in mac land.

No Im not trying to bash macs here, I'm making a point that some people feel they have not gotten the deserved attention, but Apple is in a new direction, and for Microsoft, they finally bucked down and made something good (windows 7) (which rocks)

I think me owning an "APPLE" iPhone makes me "Mac" enough to be a member of these forums.

Here's what you said and what I responded to:

Seems to me you're talking about the keynote and who has/has not got access there.

But whatever.

You've got me confused with somebody else. I didn't say that.

Yes, I was talking about WWDC (as a whole) and you were talking about the Keynote. No harm done.

Ah just forget it. I already forgot the whole thing. It can get very confusing in here.

Great theory but the 3.0 upgrade is free for iPhone users.

Yes, I know its free I have owned an iphone since day one. I just dont believe they will release 3.0 first without the phone. Why give people something, then wait to release the brand new hardware. It might hurt new phone sales.

best case, 3.0 and new phones at same day to steal PRE hype...not a big threat, but its there.

Front camera to video chat with others would be excellent... Imagine how much more ICHAT would be used if you could video chat from computer to mobile phone! It would also get people to purchase mobile me accounts. Sounds like a sure thing to me!

Be happy in your delusions....

You should install Windows 7 - you might come to the conclusion that "innovation" has moved from Cupertino to Redmond.

And definitely try Windows 7 on a multi-touch capable system. Multi-touch on Win7 changes the game....

It's a little early to say that since we don't really know anything about Snow Leopard. They are supposed to have a multitouch framework for developers and one can assume with their patented multitouch dictionary of gestures that there are many more on the way.

Windows 7 is definately a step up and has some features that OSX should have, but I'd rank Leopard and Windows 7 about even. This is not including Snow Leopard. While I think this will slow down the switchers, Windows 7 is not as great as everyone makes it out to be. It may be faster than Vista, it's still slow compared to Leopard.

What were the things you really liked about Windows 7?

Did we all forget about this huge enourmous elephant in the corner? THE HARDWARE THAT WILL DEFINE ITS OWN DAMN CATEGORY?

Apple has got something huge... Its the smooth transition from Ipod to macbook...

Its inevitable.... The real question is, when are they going to let that shine? WWDC? or that rumored confrence when Jobs might come back!

I hope windows works well... It only took them an entire decade to make something work. Worst case scenario. if it does work...Apple will get cracking on something unreal... first true APPLE TV. might as well take advantage of all that money they invested into LG... everyone seems to forget this stuff! How about a new I-TV... imac, but into a tv... first true computer tv experience... for all who dont know... TOUCHPAD ELITE and an IMAC hooked up HDMI to my 46inch 1080p samsung with 120hz... is amazing...

Up until now, its been rediculous to sit on a couch with the input devices we have... Mouse and Keyboard... IPHONE is a very close step to making this happen... Imagine this new tablet...that controls lights, tv, appliances... computer dvr, and is a computer itself... ahhh I can go on forever

can I get an AMEN?

I've been watching the keynotes online for years. And I'm now living in the East Bay area. Is there any reason for me to swing by the Mascone Center?

If it's like previous years, you could go several hours early to watch a several block long line of developers waiting to get into the keynote. The conference sold out (at about a grand and a half per ticket) many weeks ago.

But will the line be as long to hear Schiller as the headline act the keynote ??

iphone-500x375.png

is this real or custom made??
Looks real to me...

BTW: when is wwdc? on apple's website it says 8-12 june, but here everyone says 8 june.
hmm strange, can someone clear this out?

Mac AppStore should never happen. Stupid suggestion, if you ask me (I realise that nobody did).

1. Even if it starts off "in addition" to normal installations, it will move in the direction of being the exclusive source of Mac apps, which will lead to the absurd problems we've seen with iPhone rejections: who wants Apple playing gatekeeper? Not me, for sure.

2. Installing software on your Mac isn't difficult, it doesn't need to be made easy. An app directory might be useful, but PLEASE not in iTunes, it's already bloated enough as it is, perhaps on the Apple website (although there probably already is one?)

3. Why is Apple going to want to deal with all the hassle of dealing with developers, infrastructure, staffing etc?

4. People install apps on their Macs far less often than on their iPhones, and Mac apps are released less regularly, the experience doesn't need to be simplified to oblivion.

In this respect, I'd definitely be inclined to say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Until Apple comes out with a Tablet or something where finding installing apps is difficult/time consuming, then we might see the app store concept expanded.

I don't think it's a good move business-wise for Apple or for us as consumers.

I think it would only ever be for certain apps, as you can ALWAYS publish apps on your own web page and use your own serial number system...etc. So I don't think gatekeeper would be an issue... sure, porn apps will never be sold by Apple (you buy them at a porn shop)...

1) I don't think it's going to happen anyway.
2) If it does then I don't think it will force MacOS into being a closed system. It will offer a useful distribution system for SOME people, and that's about it. On the up side, it will never accept viruses, so you can trust apps that you download from it...

Meh either way... probably won't happen.

The iPhone is like the new kid who enrolls in your school and rockets to popularity so fast he steals all your former friends. You can't help but like the guy. He's a charmer. But you're jealous of him. Lots of flash and little substance.

The Mac is where my heart's at. Hoping Snow Leopard gets a big push. I'd also love to see Snow Leopard's interface reflect the beautiful look of the iPhone gui.

That is probably one of the more bizarre analogies I've heard to describe that iPhone! Although I do understand where you're coming from -- as much as I love my iPhone, I'm starting to miss the days of even just a few years ago, where it was *really* Mac rumors that were in the air. But the iPhone came in, and became super popular, and I'm afraid me and my love for my Mac are being forgotten. I hope I'm wrong in that statement, but I just want Apple to prove their dedication to still making the Mac the best it can be. And still be the backbone for the company.

You can add me to your club!

Individually, I like the iPhone. For what it turned Apple into, I really dislike it. Now a Mac Appstore? ffs, I might be moving back to Windows (7) and save some bucks in the process. Wish they could do something professional and stop playing around in lollipop consumer-land.

It's obvious Apple aren't putting enough focus on their computers - their sales in the computer market are down because they weren't on the ball with the netbook craze. They'd have done better to produce a netbook instead of the MBA.

Apple will never produce a $299 netbook. They have no desire to make a crappy device. A MacTouch might be viable but at a higher price point.

They don't have the desire to cut their profit you mean? $299 is probably what they expect to get on such a device... ;)

I don't see why it has to be crappy just because the '$299'. I'm not buying that. Computers ain't exactly space technology today and most Mac's are spiced up PC's anyway. It's about profit and not about what's possible or not. Apple dropped the ball on this one. It's not about 'they can't' - it's about 'they don't want to'. Period.

It's Apple's new closed, proprietary pet system and brings us back to the old Apple days in my opinion.

The Mac... like it or not... is now a PC that runs MacOS. Jobs doesn't have to do the hard sell on PPC chips and try to convince people that his chips that run at 1/4 the Mhz of Intel's are actually twice as fast as Intel's. He doesn't leave big new chips until last and say "oh one more thing... THE G4 IS HERE!!!!!!"

Instead these come in the form of quiet updates where the CPU's, their features and lots of jazz are still updated... just we don't hear about it at the conference. We hear about it in the form of a quiet update on Macrumors saying "oh amongst all the rumours... the Mac Pro is now 2ghz faster and has twice as many CPU's..."

If they didn't then they'd be selling old chips and Dell could directly say "YOU'RE SELLING OLD CHIPS!! WE HAVE THE LATEST FROM INTEL!!"

---

So the iPhone and MacOS are the 2 things. iPhone = Apple's current proprietary system... Apple controls what developers can do to a large extent and people can't just plug in new features as soon as they are released; we need to wait for Apple! With the iPhone a video camera is a big feature!!!! Macs... most have them built in, but if you want one... go to your local department store and grab on... be my guest!

---

So... I think that Macs are still getting the same attention. Their CPU's are being updated wow... many times every year (quietly) rather than once every 2 years where Jobs would do a big bang hard sell to the loyal customers.

The OS... has never been better. Snow Leopard I'm sure will take up much of the show! That said... it's just an operating system; not a cool new proprietary device. On that note... the iPhone has OS X! So... an iPhone update is actually an update to the OS X family...again, it's just a bit more exciting because it's an update to a proprietary system.

Many of the features you can probably already download through 3rd party plug-ins... but not with the iPhone! We're chained to Steve for that 1 pet proprietary device now that the Mac is just a PC that runs MacOS...

Why is there such an urgency for you to want Apple to get into a field where they would lose money? Everybody is losing money because of netbooks and Apple would lose money that they would use on development and research. Consumer computers may not be space age technology but there is a world of differene in the performance of a unibody MacBook and a EEE PC.

A tablet is a much better option. It may cost $599 but at least you will get new technology as opposed to the crap hardware that they push in netbooks.
