Well I failed in that department because I already bought 4, but it appears they don't want to sell me a 5th one.

The only Macs in the Mac Buyer's Guide that have "Buy now" recommendations on them are the MBP and the MB. The rest have big red warning signs on them. I don't want a MacBook and the MacBook Pro is my most recent purchase, so it appears I'm gonna have to switch back to PC if I want to be able to buy the latest thing whenever it's time for a new investment.
I've bought 3 and a handful of used ones. I've been given a few as well.

I'm very complacent with my current 2.5 year old MacBook though. It's too good. I used to buy a new Mac a year as well.

I generally buy a new Mac after three years when the AppleCare is up and no sooner.

I'm not complaining about my MBP from last June, but it's not built for the heavy duty stuff I do. When I plug in my 30" screen and try to use the MBP for creating music using tons of synth plugins etc, it kinda-sorta works but the fans sound like a desperate cry for help. I always had a desktop for audio and a laptop for misc. other stuff like graphic design. Last summer I phased out PCs but I could only afford to buy one new Mac at a time, so I went with the MBP first figuring I'd get by on it until the MP is refreshed. The makeshift solution is starting to become permanent. I can't go without a desktop much longer, but the MP is too old and the iMac is too weak. I'll give Apple another month, then it's back to Dell. Their machines are ugly but they're more bang for buck and, more importantly, not antique.

And there are people who actually use Macs for work and not just to chat with your friends while you are at school.

As a pro it's becoming very difficult to justify using Macs in the workplace when they pay so little attention to the hardware outside of the cell phone world.

I need a new monitor but based on what we've seen so far today Apple isn't going to be getting my money and my aging Mac is due for an upgrade but Apple hasn't given my employers any reason to not look at Windows 7 and a PC.

Yeah, the new iPhone looks great, but developers don't just make apps for the iPhone and they don't do it on an iPad.

I know you know this, but there are plenty of great monitors out there that don't have the Apple logo on them. It's been a long time since I've bought an Apple branded monitor. They would have to deliver something spectacular and value-driven for me to look at them again. Sadly based on the last few years, such low-shifting hardware doesn't seem to be where they want to focus. A shame for Mac lovers and a blessing for iDevice lovers (and being a Mac user, as well as an iPhone and iPad user, I'm feeling a bit divided in my sympathies right now...).

You'll be close to Sandy Bridge.
To be honest I'm expecting Llano in the next 13" MacBooks unless Apple can pull off a miracle with Intel.

I don't rely on Apple for my desktops. Thankfully I don't use OS X for more than iTunes and Safari.

I have my Core i5 750 desktop for everything else.

Home run there for Apple no question.

Better chip and battery, HD Video recoding, better camera, front facing camera, multitasking, game changing display, iBooks, Gyroscope, iMovie, folders for apps....

It's a winner for sure. Well done Apple yet again, this will raise the bar again for all other manufacturers and software providers.

Yeah, better than iPhone 3GS but not as good as competition.

Well, I need both computers to run the same platform because f***** Adobe CS licenses are not cross-platform, and CS5 Master Collection is an investment worth in the neighborhood of two computers. If it weren't for Adobe I'd already have one PC and one Mac.

I'm surprised you only use OS X for those apps. Seems a little overkill to dedicate a machine for two apps when they can run (maybe not so well...) on Windows :). My main Mac these days isn't even a real "Mac". I built my own Hackintosh with a quad core and shed-loads of memory for a lot less than an iMac. I don't care about any dubious legality of the OS licence. I just need a fast performing and good value platform that runs OS X.

Apple really need to come up with the goods in that area or they'll forfeit whatever they have left of the OS market. Maybe they don't care about cultivating that any more. Lots of money to be made out of devices and apps and ads!

Well they're still paying full attention to the mobile Macs – the MB and MBP were updated recently. But their attitude toward desktop models is very schizo. On one hand they scoff at old school workstations and insist they're on their way out... on the other hand they want to sell pro apps like FCS and Logic which are Mac-only and don't run too well on anything but Mac Pro, at least not with the level of performance that pros rely on. Why bother with these Mac-exclusive heavy duty Pro-apps if they only want to sell consumer-grade "iLife" computers anyway?

Just as well so they don't have to mess with Intel's IGP.
Intel still needs to show off more of the IGP on Sandy Bridge. Though I believe AMD's near SoC (CPU, IGP, and memory controller on a single die) solution is going to yield better 3D performance and be OpenCL capable, etc. It should be an acceptable 2 chip (CPU + southbridge) option for the small 13" MacBook logicboards.

I'm lucky not to be burdened by that.

I could throw in Transmission and Adium X to the mix but those aren't show stoppers from using other applications on other platforms.

I gave Ubuntu 10.04 a try and it's ready for prime time except for a few keyboard shortcuts that bug me. My MacBook is nearing 3 years old now. I don't see a need to replace it with a new one given what I demand of it.

Precisely. I use OS X for heavy duty video, music and photography work. The iMacs are great but are really not suitable for those who need lots of mirrored storage and lots of memory and decent CPU performance. The Mac Pro is the only option for now, but it is currently too old and too expensive compared to making your own hackintosh. Once upon a time this type of user was the bread and butter of Apple. Maybe it still is on the hardware front, but they need to show some love otherwise people will switch platforms or come up with their own "mac" equivalents. Either way, it's a loss to a company that still relies on hardware sales for the bulk of their profits.

I'm still putting the lack of a Mac Pro update on supply issues. If the chips aren't ready yet, why remove the old stuff yet? Someone will buy it. Apple will do a silent update when they're ready, probably a future Tuesday.

It would be nice if they nixed the "Introducing the new "Nehalem" processor" they have on the current systems, and drop the price ~20%, at least it would be closer to being inline with PC systems.

Steve Jobs: "You won´t be disappointed."

Yeah, about that, if I'm not mistaken, this is WWDC, and the closest thing to programing that was mentioned was an upgrade to the iOS, no mention of OSX at all. So, sorry Steve, I was disappointed, and I'm really starting to think he doesn't care about the coders nor the users of his Pro level systems.

They still have "the new Nehalem" up? Good lord.

I'm not a performance freak and I'd be OK with one of the current offerings for what I do. But I'm not OK with being played for a sucker. The W3520 processor in the entry-level Mac Pro is really really old, so old that the closest you'll find in Dell's bargain basement is the W3530 2.8 GHz. Hardware component prices drop rapidly after the introduction and other vendors adjust their prices accordingly, but Apple pretends that the W3520 is brand new and wants me to pay a 1.5 year old price for 1.5 year old gear. I'll happily pay a new price for new gear or a dropped price for old gear, though.

This keynote SUCKED and it was BORING! What farther evidence do you need that Apple is becoming a cell phone and toy computer company exclusively eventually.

The new iPhone 4 is nice I suppose. HOWEVER to have that and ONLY that at a WWDC keynote is a JOKE! ESPECIALLY when half of you computer lineup need updating badly.

Just remember Apple, without your MACS leading the way for about 30 years, your precious iPhone and iPad would be crap!

Just recently (this year) iWork is compatible with OS 3 and today iMove. You STILL need a REAL computer to handle the majority of the major applications.

Well I will wait for the end of WWDC if there will any mac (computer) related things. If not is just sign that Apple as become a pHone company and nothing else.

I was disappointed with the Keynote, being hour and half about stinky phone that didn't work properly in the demo.

I don't know i'm very hesitant about the future.

When/where to watch complete keynote video replay?

Why do you want to watch this crap?

BTW Apple usually puts the video up on their site on the night or the day after.

I'm certainly not watching this iPhone crap. Unless I want to iPuke!

Well let's see what Tuesday brings.
How about an iWork update for us desk and laptop folks.

Since my 1st gen IPod Touch is no longer supported. I am not interested in buying another one. The iPad is a dandy item. Until it gets a camera I'm not interested. Besides I can't run FCE or FCP on that. And can't picture myself doing intensive work on that anyway. But the way Jobs was talking last week. The iPad is the wave of the future.
So yeah, I see why others would complain. The lack of pro app updates sucks in addition to other things that have been shelved. The laptop updates have been like throwing bird seed to pigeons. Just enough to keep the masses at ease.

Wasn't the Final cut studio to be updated?

Perhaps wasn't talked in keynote, but might see any updates on that during WWDC.

When did they ever introduce new products two days in a row?

If it's not in the Keynote, it's weeks or months away, in a silent or semi-silent Tuesday update.
