It is a very good sign.

Big kudos to the iPhone OS platform for making WWDC such a success. WWDC never used to sell out, and then the year of the app store it has it's first sellout, and now it sells out in 8 days.

There has been a lot of focus on I devices by the detractors but we should not forget that the entire Mac line is doing very well too. Developers are targetting that platform to. Combined with the I devices, we no have more interest in developing for Apples products than ever before.

It doesn't hurt that Apple is seen as the only alternative to MS for supported hardware. No one is putting enough effort into supporting Linux on mass produced hardware so Apple is it.

... and across the country, several hundred software engineers -- if not a thousand or so -- are screaming at their purchasing department as they followed their internal billing cycle to approve this request.

Try to budget for a petty cash fund next year boys and girls!

Knowing it might sell out I just put it on a personal credit card before I was officially approved by my department. I guess I risked getting stuck with a $1599 bill, but it wasn't a real risk.

Don't be silly; I live in a 3rd world country, no copyright-related laws here. And I really hate spelling errors in people’s posts to. I’ll stop trolling now; I’ve vented my anger despite the fact that I have accomplished nothing. Thanks for the replies.

Hi,

I don't know what post he is referring to but his comment did remind me of a buddy of mine in the 80's who had loads of perfectly pirated music that he bought while living in Saudi Arabia. No copyright laws.

The US does not control the entire world, you know.

Not bad considering everybody is now boycotting Apple dev work since Jobs is the new enemy of freedom, or whatever it is th e trolls here have been saying.

Apple basher are mostly in this (and others like this) forum ...
Out there people are very happy to work with Apple and make real money.

Down to the wire

I was putting off buying a ticket and finally sat down today and bought my ticket. Good thing I didn't wait a day longer.

They really need to open Moscone North or South or move WWDC to a bigger venue.
I don't know how much it costs to rent West but Apple has to be making a pretty big profit off of this event.

It would be a hoot if he called up Gray via video chat and gave him the sack.

**** man your too hard.

They should definitely use Gray in the video chat demo, show the world that he's alive and well and make a small joke out of the situation. Tell him not to lose this phone too.

Apple could use a little good PR after all the recent headlines it's gotten.

Both Apple and Ellen Degeneres would win massive points if Ellen would show up in a black turtleneck introducing the iPhone HD that she found after ransacking the Gizmodo office.

Never will happen though. Ellen has lost her touch, as Letterman has ages ago...

I wonder how many people there are really developers attending and how many just want to be the first ones to have a hands-on with the iPhone and shoot some pics? I know it costs a lot of money to be there, but there are some crazy fanboys out there...

And Britney Spears sold out almost every concert for Circus in 60 seconds and GaGas are 30 seconds or less ...your point?
Britney and Gaga aren't real artists so don't count.

When you only have fifteen minutes of fame to work with, twelve minutes is a long time. :)
Zing!

 I think you should have used a anonymous account to share this info with us! hahaha :D
Proud to be spice for life ;).

Potential iPhone Release Date?

Historically, how soon after they announce it does the new iPhone come out?

Anyone who's not in development and is attending this just cos he's a fan is sure in for a surprise ;)
This is no regular trade show with booths full of Apple hardware...

I guess this is why they are focusing on iPhone OS (a door to mac development)...

I'm afraid that you are mistaken. WWDC used to be all about the Mac - now it has become the "center of the app universe". In other words: Apple's focus has completely shifted to the iPhone OS and the Mac has turned into a legacy.

Wait two more generations and you will be doing app development on the iPad.

Now try to imagine an engineer OUTSIDE of the country... To them, that is an international, even intercontinental trip, not seldomly requiring approval by the executive board!

A friend of mine works at a LARGE corporation in Germany. Only with full throttle backup from his management and support from the CIO and his staff he was able to secure the ticket.

There's not much of a track record here. The original one was announced back in January 2007. It was eventually released June 29th

That leaves the 3G and 3GS for WWDC.

The 3G was announced June 9th and released July 11th (32 days)
The 3GS was announced June 8th and released June 19th (11 days)

This years WWDC starts June 7th, given 11 - 32 days it would probably be released some time June 18th - July 9th.

Of course it could be longer or shorter than that. There's not much of an evident indication here.

No, but the MPAA and the RIAA are trying very hard to do so :(

Well, this 'app universe' is marketing speech.
I think there are a couple of good reasons why the Pad will never be a developer machine:

First of all it would allow for alternative software distribution paths. Download your code from any repository on the web - compile it - run it. Something Apple does not like...

What is more important, there are two very distinct development paths: One is (simple) 'applications software' and the other is 'frameworks'. Frameworks is what really makes all these apps possible and you can not push them forward on a restricted platform.

Sure there might eventually an 'app-builder' app, but this would be for hobby projects. Professional software development has their own set of requirements that are hard to fulfill on the Pad, speaking of source code versioning, collaboration support, etc...
