Wow, sold out... so many poor little developers locked into Apple's platform. I really feel so sorry for them.

What are you talking about? 85 million + people own iPods/iPhones and iPads. I think I heard someone say that was a "plum" market. :)

There's a growing perception (not sure I share it yet, but can't ignore either) that Mac development is taking a back seat at Apple. I know they target the latest and greatest unexploited biz niches and more and more on being a global provider in those niches - and that it's working spectacularly - but they're also making inroads in the still huge PC market, which, given their margins, cash stash, etc., they have the resources to keep increasing sales and market share.

So they may be hard on it, but sounds like over a year after their "interim" OS release of Snow, which was to be the clean out the old and provide the foundation technologies for future editions of OS X, we're not likely to hear a peep about a new cat being readied to leap out of the bag any time (or year) soon, nor any iWorks (or iLife) '010, etc. which have been annual releases up to now.

Maybe the point releases are considered sufficient incremental advances since there clearly won't be a Win 8 for years. Maybe Apple's seeing the whole PC market as over the hill. Maybe the back rooms are up to their armpits at work on a sizable makeover that will bridge the functionalities of iDevices and Macs in new ways. Maybe...... ???

But I thought developers were angry at Apple and were sick of their walled garden.

At least that's what the experts on MacRumors told me.
There's no real walled garden for Mac applications.

And are you insinuating that some people here are blathering nitwits? :D

WWDC is an awesome event. This year looks like it's going to be a killer show with iPhone OS 4.x and the iPad in full swing.

Oh, and LOL at folks comparing WWDC selling out in 8 days to a rock concert selling out in hours...

WWDC costs $1600 a person, requires a flight to San Francisco, and 5 days in a hotel... That's $3,000 (or, 6 whole iPads for folks that have forsaken the standard economy for those shiny slabs of paradise...)

A 2 hour rock concert in your home town doesn't compare.

Knowing it might sell out I just put it on a personal credit card before I was officially approved by my department. I guess I risked getting stuck with a $1599 bill, but it wasn't a real risk.

That is what I did to attend a few times. My take is if purchasing has a wild hair about not approving it, I write it off as professional development on my taxes. One time, a new VP recently took over my department and had an near blood vendetta against Apple that he refused to talk about. Not only was it not approved, I ended up taking vacation time to attend WWDC that year.

Found a new job a few months after that.
