iOS 5 is essentially a catch up/implement other platforms' selling points update ...not that i'm complaining.

Edit: Ooh BBM. Finally.

Wohoo. A whatsapp clone. Just that you can't message friends that don't have an iPhone. Great idea. Same like Facetime.

BBM rip off. Where is Apple's substance this year? This just looks like a load of ripped off features!

No, it will install on any of you Macs that are registered to the Mac App Store with your User ID.

If family members have their own iTunes accounts they will have to pay for their own copies.

Go downstairs to Dad's iMac.
Launch Mac App Store.
Store > Sign Out.
Store > Sign in (as me).
Download & install.
Store > Sign Out?

"In just 9 months we have 50 million Game Center users. To put that into perspective Xbox Live has been around for about eight years and they have around 30 million users."

To be fair...everyone that installs iOS MUST have Game Center. The fact that they have Game Center on their phone doesnt necessarily mean that they're a "user".

Not every XBOX requires XBOX Live. In fact, you have to pay $50 for XBOX live.

I'll wait to see if you can burn the files onto DVD before I give it a complete miss.

The main new feature is a revamped e-mail client, the rest of the 'new' features seems to be copied from Microsoft 20 years ago.

So no hard reboot? That seems a little odd.
Volume Shadow Copy and Home Groups comes to mind.

Otherwise my Macbook is sticking around until it dies. I do not really know how I am going to replace it short of an OS X virtual machine. I guess we are still in a holding pattern for iCloud right now.

True, but I'm glad they're implementing it, even in their own sweet time. But the general feeling here is that Apple's basically saying "hey developers, you innovate and we'll just screw you over!" *looks at Whatsapp and iMessage*

And the Android notifications made me laugh. I mean I'm glad that they're finally implementing Intelliscreen and SBSettings (about time!) but after all this news about them suing Samsung etc for copying this takes the mick.

You don't even have to do that. Download it on your machine and copy it over the LAN / Burn to DVD and then you'll be prompted for credentials when you try and run it on your dad's machine

I like how people think that Apple just saw Microsofts Windows 8 Keynote and just decided to copy the split keyboard, all in 3 days.

From Joshua Topolsky: "2:15 pm This is the BBM killer. RIM, your ace just got blown to smithereens."

I doubt it. You can do a clean install of Snow Leopard without having Leopard installed.

You can do a clean install of Snow Leopard from a medium, Lion will only available from the AppStore. How are you going to access the app store during that clean install? It will be interested to see how they will solve that. Are people going to have to send their computers somewhere? Will you have too boot from a medium that can access the AppStore?
