A little disappointed...

From the live coverage:

"10:02 am Tim Cook looks sharp as hell, bluejeans and black button up shirt."

I dress like that every day. Okay, black jeans. But still...

Nobody says I look sharp as hell. Not even today at Starbucks.

What is the native resolution of the Retina MBPs? It seems as if 1440x900 is not supported, even scaled.

The way I understand it the resolution actually IS 1440x900. So it's not only supported - it is what it is. Everything will be scaled up by a factor 2. Except for some elements such as photos or videos - if the application is set up that way.

I was wondering how Win 7 will run on these now.

"I felt a disturbance in The Force, like a million Apple fanboys all cried out at once and were silenced."

I feel sorry for the folks who bought Apple stock this morning at close to $590. Well, sorta.

What did I miss? Could someone give me the CliffNotes version? I don't have time to read all of this now. What were the game changing announcements?

Let's not confuse the fact that they did stuff that was horrible for your needs meaning that they didn't do their marketing well.

Apple is aiming more towards the general populace and less towards "pros". So far that has done well for them. Sucks for the pros who liked their stuff but they aren't really doing anything they need, true. But that doesn't mean their strategy is going to fail them (unless they underestimated how much of a pro market they had and losing it has more of a dent then they thought).

Also, I agree with you about the retina screen *yawn*. Doesn't really do anything. Hell, I'll argue my 2010 MBP has a retina screen cause from the distance I view it at I can't see the pixels ;). So I really don't see why people were calling for retina displays or are excited about that. I'm more excited about the thinner size, good availability of SSD storage space, and faster processor all in a "MBA" type computer. Basically if you like the thin factor of the MBA but hate the trade offs of the weaker specs, this computer pretty much is the, "Hey, you don't have to trade off the weaker specs, you can get as good as the MBPs and still have the thin computer."

Not that I'm buying any MBP this year, I'm poor and my little 2010 MBP should do me fine (Though I think I should consider buying a bigger hard drive and more RAM for it).

Congrats!

Best live coverage of a keynote ever. Updates were fluid and timely, pictures were flowing... Very impressive.

"It's got a new hat!" - Tim Cook

"HOOORAY!!! AMAZING!!! WOWWWWW!!!" - Apple fanboys

"Hmm... really? Thats it?" - everyone else

Here you go!

Standard CPU bump Macbook Air update

Ditto for the Macbook Pro line. Except...

Impressive really thin next gen Macbook Pro with Retina Display, 16GB ram, and a decent graphics card. Claimed 7 hours battery life.

iOS6: Now with Maps, and...uh...some Siri stuff.

My take? The new Macbook Pro is awesome, but the rest was a little underwhelming.

Good points. I agree that from a sales and marketing perspective they had and have a good approach that makes them sell a lot of pretty expensive stuff to a lot of people who can or cannot afford it. Just the fact that they made me sit through the coverage of a marketing event shows how well they do their homework. And I'm not even a Apple person - all I own is the iPod Classic (for lack of an alternative). It is fascinating how they do that despite the fact that a lot of their stuff has major flaws that people are more than happy to just accept and hope for the next iteration and opportunity to shell out the next 2K. So, yeah, I'm disappointed because I had hoped that this could be the point in time to hop on the bandwagon and spend a bit more but get something nicer and easier to use in return. I just can't get it to work that way. I had been at this point twice before and have been let down. No, Apple doesn't have to care about me and a few others with special needs and expectations. They seem to be doing just fine and that's great. It's just that the stock market wasn't all that excited either. Not that it matters at the level their at currently. I wish them well. I can only hope that their will be a few more higher end yet still affordable choices available down the road. But then again you never know where they may be going next. You pretty much put all your eggs in one basket - or not.

Well, I mean who else could it be :D

My friend is getting a Mac notebook (not sure which one, though I'll convince him to get the retina one :p) before going to HK to get the travellers tax refund. He's coming over to my place before hand so I'll get to play with his before I go get mine :D

Haha nice!

I'm not a very patient person so I've just ordered mine... shame HK don't get the free B2S gift card. The $300 I saved on taxes should more than cover that though :D

Hmm. So why do the tech specs read thusly?

Retina display : 15.4-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit display with IPS technology; 2880x1800 resolution at 220 pixels per inch with support for millions of colours
Supported resolutions: 2880x1800 pixels (Retina); scaled resolutions: 1920x1200, 1680x1050, 1280x800 and 1024x640 pixels

Zero mention of 1440x900. It appears that 2880x1800 might be native. Not sure how that is going to work on a 15.4" screen.

It looks like the MacBook Pro are updated to dual-core Intel Core i7 now and 8GB RAM now than 4 GB from last year .

Not sure how much faster these Intel Core i7 are from the CPU they had last year but are ivy bridge.

Well, you obviously have it all figured out. I'd suggest you go and order one. I'm sure it's great with its "native" 2880x1800 resolution. Let us know how it goes.

Sarcasm aside: I'd really be curious how a "scaled 1920x1200" resolution would work and how it would look. Also I'd like to know how "non-retina" operating systems would work and look here. There are indeed a lot of question marks here and I'm sure I'll be heading to the Apple store the next few days just to check it out.

Haha, that's funny. Ironically, my wife suggested last night putting my black button down shirt in the good-will pile since I never wear it. Little did we realize that in order to look really sharp I should put it back into circulation ;-)

Of course 2880x1800 is native. -_- They SHOULD add a 1400x900 scaled mode though.

Dude, the SSD combined with the GPU will make this a must buy

I know this is the World Wide DEVELOPER'S Conference...but it they're going to spend time on the laptops, why not spend some time on the desktops?

Sounds like iMac won't be updated to Fall. Apple could have at least teased us with the details and said "available July"...but they didn't...which would lend one to believe they don't have anything nailed down yet for a release within the next 8 weeks.

I'm also unclear why a DEVELOPER'S conference needs 50%+ of the keynote devoted to non-developer stuff...you know, all that Mac laptop stuff. Makes you wonder why Apple had to "fill" the keynote with non-developer stuff that maybe it was a big waste for developers to even show up. Seems like the WWDC was off topic.

From what I understand you really have to wait til tomorrow to see how the stock market really thinks because from what I understand, Apple's stock always goes down after their announcements.

It kinda of strange there are 4 types of MacBook Pro that are non Retina display and 2 types of MacBook Pro that are Retina display .

Also strange is there no 13-inch MacBook Pro that is Retina display only a 15-inch MacBook Pro that is Retina display.

My take? They view the 13" as the economy (but popular and can't get rid of) macbook pro.

For people like me where even the 13" is a lot of money for me (no way could I justify a 2k computer and I really honestly was stretching to justify my 2010 13" MBP which I won't be justifying another until I get a better job or this one goes totally caput, gets so outdated I can justify it, or they have such a nice update over what mine has that I'm drooling over that I find some way to scrounge up the money <- this one I'm glad they haven't done yet and this wouldn't happen on the 2k machines cause no way on my budget can I even think to justify that, it would have to be the MBP 13" which is a good thing I also prefer that size ;). Though if I had the money the new MBP would have me considering the 15" if it was light/small enough to compromise on having a bigger screen/bigger footprint. I mainly like it cause I like the idea of the Air but the compromises of the Air's spec just didn't justify the price/form factor. The new 15" MBP is for those who liked the air but wanted the MBP's specs).
