They managed to show off iOS 5 and keep Siri under wraps until the reveal of the 4s.

iOS had way more stuff to talk about outside of Siri. New notifications and Notification Center, iMessage, iCloud, Wireless sync, Reminders, newstand, etc. Ios 8 seems to have Healthbook, and various performance tweaks. Now they could have more to show, but the situation with Siri really isn't the same.

Well unless you have some inside information to say they are the only changes in iOS 8, then it may be exactly the same.

It wouldn't be the same either way. Siri wasn't a component of the operating system, it was a feature of the iPhone 4s. Healthbook will be on any phone running iOS 7 and not tied to a specific phone.

Have you read anything on Healthbook? It's a feature of iOS.

Siri was a feature of iOS. A feature that only worked on 4s hardware granted, but still a feature of iOS. I've read about Healthbook, which boils down to a few screen pics and blog posts. No one knows what else is in iOS 8 and what devices Healthbook will run on and what it's requirements are. I'd assume a major OS from 7-8 would have a few more tricks up its sleeve.

So in the extremely unlikely scenario that Healthbook will only run on the iPhone 6 (which is almost certainly not true since there are screenshots of the app already, and not from an iPhone 6), then you may have a point. But in the much more likely scenario that the app is not tied to hardware, and runs on any device that can run on iOS 8, which seems to be the general consensus right now, the comparison you made is not applicable.

My original point was that there may be some as yet unknown marquee feature of iOS 8 that we will not know of until the iPhone 6 is revealed. I used Siri as an example... We saw iOS 5 for months and had no clue about Siri until the 4s launch. We saw iOS 7 for months and nothing about Touch ID (apart from rumours) until the 5s was launched. So, history tells me my comparison is correct.

Unless you're trying to say that Healthbook will not be revealed at WWDC and saved for the iPhone 6, then comparison doesn't make sense.

You're confusing a phone feature with an OS feature(Touch ID is ONLY on the 5s.). That's the first problem. The second is that you seem to missing the point. The question is how iOS 8 is appealing on its own, not how iOS 8 is appealing when combined with hardware specific features of the iPhone 6. The reason for this question is that there may be an iWatch reveal because iOS 8 is a tough sell without SOMETHING to show off the utility of the flagship feature of the OS.

No.... You were implying that Healthbook is the marquee/flagship feature, and for it to have the wow factor, it would have to be shown with iWatch. I didn't say anything about Healthbook originally, I said that there is a history of showing new iOS versions at WWDC and "holding something back" to be revealed with new hardware. I'm expecting there to be a whole bunch of new things, not just Healthbook, in iOS 8 to justify the major version jump.

In iOS 8, there will be iOS optimization for iPad, especially for the multitasking view. When Apple introduced multitasking in iOS 4, the iPad version took over five more months to complete because Apple added bigger multitasking and folder views. For the iOS 7 redesign, after Forstall was fired, Apple had a short time frame to work on a major redesign for iOS. They did not have time to optimize iOS 7 specifically for iPad because they had to include a 64 bit OS in the 64 bit A7 iPads.

Also, in my opinion, OS X and iPhone iOS already have the necessary features. But iOS for iPad still needs a better multitasking view, the ability to run apps side by side, and a better way to input text.

Actually iOS and iOS 7 have the same functionality just with the new design it's apparent how much of the UI was just pretty pixels. So now with iOs 7 stripping away a lot of the junk, they have to start adding things to make use of the extra space. Better multitasking is one thing but the apps themselves function the same. It's best if they perfected the UI first before adding fluff because that could cause issues with intuitiveness.

Gimmick features. What better way could there be to input text? swype would be cool and maybe handwriting input but that's not needed for me.

With the recent rumours of iWatch being made, I was really hoping for a sneak peak ala macpro for the iWatch. Seems that is not going to happen now.

Really excited that OSX will be taking centre stage this time over ios 8. I'm guessing that ios 8 will be what mavericks was to mountain lion. Limited features but lots of battery optimisations etc.

I also really think they might show off a new Mac mini as they need some hardware to show off and a 0.1 ghz increase with the same type of chip wouldn't be worth a WWDC announcement

I'm hoping for three things in the Music App in iOS 8 :

- Make things more compact like before... the album art is ridiculously too big.
- Give me an option so that when I click on an artist, I see only the album names, like it was before. I have about 25 albums of Linkin Park because it's my favorite artist and with iOS7, it became a total PITA to scroll through everything.
- Give me a NEW feature this time, which queues the song next when I hold my finger on a song name.

I cannot stress the importance of this being he most important change for iOS 8. Absolutely disgusting redesign in iOS7. Apple had the best music design for years which came from the iPod. Completely ruined it.

YES, YES and YES. I submitted the report to them a while ago on their feed-back page. The fact that it hasn't been changed in 7.1 makes me think there's no hope anymore.

When the guy at the WWDC '13 said : "It's by far the best Music App we have ever shipped in iOS", I couldn't stop laughing. Even in his presentation I could see all the problems coming with this interface, and after 10 months of use, I am more annoyed than ever.

I also remember that one time when I went back to iOS6 and was relieved that I could live happy again with the old music app.

I submitted feedback too, hopefully Apple will give us a great new music app in iOS 8 to make up for 7's, it's a complete POS app right now and this will be a definite dealbreaker when it comes to possibly getting an iPhone 6 in the fall.

Oh that and change the design of the phone app back to how it was in 7.0 Give us the full screen caller ID pictures and make the new tiny call/accept and end/decline buttons larger so they're easier to tap. It was be ridiculous to introduce a 4.7" iPhone 6 and waste that much screen real estate.

Oh yeah and turn down the colors, make the icons more consistent, have buttons be easier to identify, more legible typeface and change the signal dots back to bars because they take up less space on the status bar and plus bars are an industry standard or least make the dots smaller and give us the ability to change it in settings.

Finally, make the apps less white! More contrast between the navigation bars and the app content. Have more stock apps with dark themes such as photos, videos, iTunes and App Stores.

I honestly don't think that's too much to ask for...

Here's how it goes:

- Tim goes out and brings some punk band.

DONE

You forgot the year-over-year X million of units sold of iDevice.

I'm wondering if Beats will have any presence at WWDC. Since the news just came out now, I'm assuming talks have taken place well before, and maybe they want to get the deal settled before WWDC so they can show something.
