According to mupltiple sources (9to5mac etc.) iOS6 will not be a major update with many new features. It'll be a very much tweaked version of IOS5 with new re-designed apps and Facebook integration. So, don't expect any major changes to the OS.

To my opinion it's time for Apple to innovate a little bit in iOS, there are many things that can be better..

Think iPad, you didn't have an iPad to test on, it was a virtual OS.

Good point. They'll still have to let the cat out of the bag it the screen's bigger though, no way around it. Will be very interesting keynote this year. Many people are expecting 'revolutionary' and it won't be if it's just another row of icons. Even widgets will seem outdated if they finally bring them on board, since android has had them for years now.

This is actually what I expect. Same 'ol, same 'ol.

Isn't it entirely plausible that Apple keep the 960x640 resolution but make the pixels ever so slightly bigger for the bigger screen size?

That way they wont have to tell us anything on Monday as apps will be just the same.

Hmm, dunno, looking forward to Monday though! It's just a pain having to wait till 9PM (UK time) before the keynote gets put up on the website.

:apple:

a taller screen means that the aspect ratio would be different. So keeping it like this would need pixels of different sizes within one display, which would be silly

the icon of iOS 6 screams "Retina"

iOS well iDevices have been retina for the last 2 years?

-----

9to5mac: "The pick-up-and-play home screen grid of application icons, notifications, app-switching, and Siri all look like their iOS 5 counterparts."

LAME LAME LAME. time to try a different OS in my case. i'll still have my iPad2, iPhone 4 and 4S to play around with iOS

Lmao. Ok buddy
There are things that Android does better. Doesn't mean it's a better mobile OS overall. But I hope Apple has more in store for us than Facebook integration and re-designed store apps. That would be pretty underwhelming.

For sure. It's pathetic in this day and age. I want at a glance the weather, clander, new subscribed podcasts, music, rss feeds etc.

There's really no excuse to dismiss it with a major update.
Is battery life the reason Apple doesn't have widgets? Before my iPhone I had an HTC with Froyo and the battery life was absolute crap. When I took it to AT&T they basically told me to remove all my widgets to save my battery life. But that was 2 years ago.

Save your woeful attempts at sarcasm until AFTER the keynote.

I hope I'm wrong. But if the UI stays the same and the phone gets taller, that's exactly what we'll have.

Ok so what are the expectations for iOS 6 besides new map app and Facebook integration?

1) facebook
2) map
3) developer tool kit with Facebook integration codes and rules
4) multiple account login
5) widgets right panel view on swipe
6) interactive notification sistem (it will be able to answer sms without entering to app as a sample)
7) automatic close background apps timer setting (5.15,30mins and never)
8) icloud manager app (the Apple way of file managing on iOS)
9) idevelope app (an app that let you continue work with an app code designing with previewing options - just for registered developers)
10) ilife suite comes integrated as in Macs

Nice wishlist

Water in the background? Am I the only one seeing the submerged 6 with a periscope sticking out?

Must mean something...

I was thinking that very thing. Ahhhhh yet something else to try and decipher!:D

Facebook's pretty much a given, though I'm not outrightly expecting full, system-wide Facebook integration with iOS 6.0. The Facebook SDK, if the system-level integration does indeed happen, is a given. I'm 99.9% positive there's a Framework you import in an iOS Xcode Project to enable the iOS Twitter Interface within your app.

As for Maps...well of course. The cat was let out of that bag a while ago, a couple of screenshots were too. But that doesn't necessarily mean it's going to happen in that precise fashion. Knowing Apple, it'll be a much better implementation by the time iOS 6 goes public.

Multiple Account Login? No. Just No. Possibly on the iPad, but it'd have to be a mind-blowing implementation to truly work.

A widget area that is exposed via swiping? For crying out loud, I really don't think Apple could pull that off nicely without some serious re-jigging of Springboard. It'd get far too confusing on the iPhone's screen (assuming that it'd be included on the iPhone 4S and below), and could possibly get confusing on the iPad too.

Interactive Notification System? I agree wholeheartedly on this one, mate. I'd love to be able to answer a Mention, Text or iMessage without jumping into the app from whatever I'm doing. Would be especially handy while I'm playing Angry Birds or Scramble! :D

As for my "Want" list:
- Siri on the iPhone 4.(hahahahaahahhahahahahahahahahaha!!!)
- iTunes Match SDK APIs.
- Read/Write Access to the Music Library from within the SDK.
- Rejigged Springboard UI.
- Speed Improvements.
- Silver UI (but I won't be in the slightest bit disappointed if the UI isn't silver).
- Other cool stuff.

If they don't mention a new iPhone at the conference, then it could mean that;

1) Developers won't get much notification on the new screen sizes, although this was the case with the new iPad.

2) The traditional September iPod event, could they possibly announce a "taller" iPod touch before they bring it to the phone? It's normally the touch that inherits the phone's new stuff.

One thing's for certain, it's pretty hard to guess what's coming (bar the obvious!)

I have seen many concepts of what iOS will be and they look very nice. Im not looking for a complete overhaul but little changes to current things would be nice.

1. I would love to do a quick answer of sms from inside notification center.
2. i like the mission control "safari like card idea" coming up from a swipe on the bottom.
3. Facebook integration to post pictures and such
4. a new unlock gesture (slide is good but options would be nice)
5. bluetooth, 3G, airplane mode, wifi in notification center would make me :D
6. full access bluetooth to send pictures, video, etc
7. stream time capsule files or shared hard drive files from an airport station like back to my mac
8. some other little tweaks that I can't think of at the moment

EDIT: duh and new maps integrated with phone. such as calendar and can tell me if a specific route will cause me to be late because of traffic.

other features wanted but not part of software

1. more powerful SIRI (I know will come eventually)
2. iCloud Disk and Gallery like in MobileMe
3. Some sort of iCloud management app would be nice if its done right

They'll call them "the new iPhone" and "iPhone (2012)" or "iPhone (6th Generation)". They've already solved this 'problem' with their refurbished macs and iPods.

Not exactly. The 'early 2011' etc monikers are part of the official name of sorts, the same as they use for service guides etc. However this isn't part of their market name and are not advertised as such as this when launched, yeah they use them in the refurb store, but they aren't going to have splashed on their mainpage buy the revolutionary iPhone (2012).

I think the whole let's just call them new iPhone or new iPad or new iMac is great, however I do think it's a bit of an issue when the old models are still being sold side by side. "Yeah I just bought a new iPad", "oh is that the new one with the blah blah?", "oh no, this is the old iPad that was the new iPad, but now it is just the iPad","so you haven't got the iPad (2013)?", "well it is a new one, it just isn't the new one", "so which one is it then?", "it's a new one, just not the THE new one", "oh right, hey have you heard the rumors about that new one?".

Fine if they have one model, not so much with 2 or even 3 generations being sold side by side. And your point of having years etc to signify generations is really not that different to having 2, 3, 4S etc designation.

I don't see iPad 2, iPhone 4, or iPhone 3GS splashed anywhere on the main page, so I'm not sure why you think they'd be splashing model years on the main page. Even the product pages show the current model much larger than the old models. The current model would always just be "the new _____". It's not an issue.

Don't be moronic, they'd just say "it's last years iPad", or "the previous generation", or "the $400 one". People say stuff like that now.

I really hope you are very wrong.
But to be honest,m this is exactly what I'm expecting from iOS6
No new ideas, no listening to users, no radical rethinks, no wow features.

Just same old, same old, but we've added a few bits under the hood and done some tweaks.

Yawn :(

It's hardly REALLY changed since the 1st iPhone launched in any "in your face" way.

exactly, they'll just add some random apps that you can find in all kind of shapes at the app store already (reminder *cough cough*). i expect revamped maps, appstore, itunes and thats it for "UI" changes

The only thing that icon screams is AQUA!
