I was excited also when I heard that the Apple Store is down. Just now checked, can't see that I notice any change. Disappointed, must have been some need maintenance.

I think Apple should take down the store once a week on random days... to pad their web hit numbers given the page refreshing going on by folks. :p

WHY ALL THE HYPE!?

Why did you guys even get so hyped up? Just because they're updating the store doesn't mean they're putting in something new. I mean, yeah, there's the small chance they might accidentally put up something they don't mean to. But come on. This is a major corporation here. Are they really gonna put something up they don't intend to? No, it's just regular maintenance.

Here's what I got right away at the Apple store US vs. a few minutes later after refreshing. Two things I noticed: The Apple logo (home page button) and text under the post-it note.

sshhh!

I'm not sure when this was posted on the store, but...

The free 2-, 3-day shipping offer on Macs and software ends on June 27, which is this Sunday and the day before WWDC starts. That would tend to make me think new consumer hardware is going to be in the offering AND have immediate availability (at least a few of the items).

A shipping freebie could also indicate across-the-board price changes, but that doesn't seem nearly as likely.

UPDATE

The hardware listed consists of the full line of eMacs, iBooks, iMacs, PowerBooks and PowerMacs. No displays, no iPods.

Sorry I didn't read this whole thread to see if this had been suggested yet.

Could the vertical pizza box be a mounting point from which the new Cinema displays could "hang"? The displays would come with some kind of pedestal, but that'd be removable and the raw display could mount directly to the iMac, which is now technically headless and will also work with third-party LCDs (though less elegantly).

And old idea, I know, just trying to interpret the new rumors....

It's amazing how, in general, Apple continues to keep the really big new stuff *completely secret*, even less than a week before its supposed unveiling.

Checking order status is different now...

Now instead of just typing in your password you have to put in your sales number and shipping address zip code. Kind of annoying... :(

I doubt it was "regular maintenance" considering the time of day this occurred, it was most likely emergency maintenance...

Well, yes, regular, emergency; whatever it was it was maintenance, not unveiling anything new.

How about: Free 2-day express shipping.

Offer ends on the 27th: day before WWDC keynote.

You know what that means. They're trying to get rid of as much stock as they can before the release of new products.

At this point it only seems to be the 23" Cinema Display that they are trying to move off the shelf. Unless some other G5 announcements are also on the horizon.

I also noticed that my current order no longer shows the prices for each item.

For a company with such attention to visual detail, I find it funny that their front page Store ad for the new liquid-cooled G5's misspells "processors". :p

Wow, it does! That is odd for Apple. I wonder how long it'll take them to realize it.
