As excited as I am to see a 64bit imac... I'm a bit pissed that the consumer line is getting it before the pro line laptop gets it.
Apparently, G5s are too hot for a thin enclosure like a PowerBook. Would you just have Apple wait? Nah, a new consumer desktop with a G5 is a great idea! I can't wait to see it.

still 32-bit, for all intents and purposes

Since WWDC is a developer's conference, maybe we'll finally hear about the plans for making OSX into a 64-bit operating systems.

What's the real point of having a 64-bit chip - but then running 32-bit applications in a 32-bit operating system?

An Apple rep told me a couple of weeks ago that the 64-bit roadmap would be announced at WWDC.

Yeah its a good move. If they release anything like we think they are going to release and the price point is decent then I think they will be on a winner.

Is this a serious question? :D

it's not the end of the world if there's no broadcast -- as long as they post a qt movie of the show afterwards ;)

if there is no broadcast of any kind, we can be pretty sure there isn't much anything to release. right?

iMac G5

Firstly, the design for the imac WILL NOT be in the pizza box design! Look at the work Steve has done for Apple, and with the moving away form those types of computers! The iMac design will although be re-styled and changed to incoporate the new 750fx g5 chip, and will only have a slight de-tune from the PMG5. The monitors may increase in size, and hopefully will include MacTv in them. (Anyone remember that?) If MacTv goes ahead, i HOPE there will be Pal support(We use Pal here Down Under) and if so, i will buy 3 of them, in one size each. The biggest for my Living Room, Middle-BedRoom, smallest-Bathroom. The Stevenote will be broadcast (anyone know what time Sydney Aus Time?) live, like always. Hopefully there will be a laptop upgrade too, but that is looking less and less likely as the days go past.

My 2 cents.

Microsoft Releases Longhorn this century

As a desktop user, I'd be a bit pissed if a laptop got a G5 before the iMacs do! ;)

Hang loose (and I mean loose NOT lose!)

Is there something in the air today or are people just typing without thinking?

We know that a pizza box case can be quite thin and still provide adequate cooling. We know LCD monitors are also thin. The DVD drive would have to be from the side. So? Not a big deal. Simply add bluetooth for a wireless keyboard and mouse and you can hang the whole damn thing on the wall. No need to hang the monitor seperately. A tad inconvient for access the drive, but not that bad really, depending on where you choose to hang it.

There is absolutely no need to detach the monitor.

Why on earth would anyone want to hang their screen or computer on the wall? Unless the screen was huge, for most people who sit behind a desk, the screen would be too far away. You would have to keep stretching to pop a cd in. Also, I don't think I would want anything I'd just paid a couple of grand for "hanging" anywhere. Besides having to drill holes in your wall in order to install something sturdy to take the weight etc...
Would Applecare cover all the ones that fall off their holdings and shatter into a million pieces?? Would the power drill come in the box?
I think too many people are mixing and matching rumors to suit their wishes.

funny when you think of it

I just realise that myself and probably LOTS of others consider WWDC as the keynote, not thinking about the fact it's actually several days, but we apple-freaks tend to focus our attention at the opening keynote, but for several other (mainly developers I guess) the real excitement is in the next few days, in their workshops etc.

'My' wwdc will be over monday evening (considering the time zones) after stevo's speech

This was sort of Bill Gates' point in his book lo these many years ago: TVs are for sitting back and experiencing, computer displays are for sitting up and working. You don't use them interchangably.

If the pizza box is a reality, I think it will be pitched as an entertainment device: iTunes, PVR, TV, and (hopefully) built-in digital cable tuner. The pizza box should be about Season Six of "The Sopranos"; write your next novel and color correct the wedding videos on you desktop/laptop.

I understand why people would be annoyed if a G5 imac comes out before a G5 Powerbook.. but Apple has no choice. They have to get the G5 in whatever computer they can and as soon as possible.

Apple's market share is shrinking! Nobody is buying imacs anymore.
I am using a 400mhz G4 Imac at work right now. If Apple releases a G5 imac next week - I'm going to buy it. If they release another G4 imac, i'm going to wait. That's what's going on and a lot of people feel the same way.

It's a psychological thing.. The G4 is a great processor, but the G5 is the future. We want it NOW!!!!!!!

eMacs in limited supply

ZOnes.com and other resellers are showing 10+ days for eMacs of all kinds.

Resellers are having trouble getting them, too.

New eMacs at WWDC? Maybe a price drop (yeah, right, from Apple?)

they just got updated, and are not in a need to be updated (next update maybe will be g5 or e700 based)

TBS promo Ad, are those new iMacs in it?

TBS (TV) is running a series of promo ads based around a call center-type of office, but with an open floorplan. These ads all feature people sitting in front of computer screens that look like the current 15 or 17" iMac screens, but there are no hemispherical bases. Instead, there is a simple stand that the "monitors" are attached to.

Ok, so maybe the new iMac can sit on a stand, or be mounted on a wall, or be carried in your hands like a tablet...

Has anyone else seen these promos?

im pretty sure that this pizza box thing is being mis interpreted, as if apple would copy the dell optispaz or what ever it is called (cant be bothered to look) there has to be another meaning to the pizza box thing (if anywhere near true..... what do you guys think it could be... prehaps like and A shape??? like an open laptop stood up on its front???

ahhh time will tell, i really like the current imacs...there specs are just to low to consider at the moment

Screen caps from the TBS promo (links)

Here are two shots from the TBS promo, one from the side and the other from the front.... not much detail but the best I could get from the "Very Funny.... fringe one" promo on tbs.com

Didn't Apple release a press statement saying that eMacs would be low in supply for the next few months. They attributed it to the heavy educational buying that takes place this time of year... but who knows...

Phoenix Feather and Holly

Is it 11 inches or 9-3/4?

Sort of swishy?

Look out for the sparks, you'll burn your owl!
