You've seen too many keynotes and believed too much of what has been preached to you.

1. The Mac division at Microsoft already has Snow Leopard, nobody there needs to start a photocopier. Adobe and Microsoft are the most important third party software developers for the Mac platform - you can bet that they get early releases of OS X even before the rest of the members of Apple's Developer Connection. Microsoft and Apple even have a patent deal that allows them to use each others patents. But even without that are there probably more relevant innovations and improvements in Windows 7 than there will be in Snow Leopard - Windows 7 targets a market of almost on BILLION installations in all spoken and written languages world-wide on the long term. Compared to this, all the big words in an Apple keynote are just... obnoxious marketing and say more about the narrow mindedness at Apple than they say about their competitors. (Heck, even Linux supports more languages and is available in more countries than OS X.)

2. Steve Ballmer probably doesn't care very much about Mac OS X Snow Leopard. More people already have downloaded the Release Candidate of Windows 7 than Apple will ever sell Snow Leopard licenses. Apple's market share in the OS sector still is completely insignificant when compared to Microsoft.

3. If Steve Ballmer is paying attention to anything that Apple is doing, then this will be the iPhone and iTunes, because the latter is the only area where Apple really is the heavy-weight that they claim to be. However, with DRM disappearing from online music (and soon video) sales and other giants like Amazon entering this market, Apple will have to do a lot of homework to keep their market dominance.

Yawn your Apple hate is getting a bit old.

Everyone thought that the MacBook Air sounded stupid...

And, oddly enough, it's turned into the MacBook Cube.

Windows 7, it new, it's better than Vista - but it's still built on the same framework as Vista.

And the same framework as Server 2008...
And the same framework as Server 2003...
And the same framework as XP...
And the same framework as Windows 2000...
And the same framework as Windows NT 4.0...
And the same framework as Windows NT 3.51...
And the same framework as Windows NT 3.1...

Windows 7's greatest strength is that, yes, it is built on the solid NT foundation.

And Vista is based on NT. MS has no good ideas these days.

And OSX is based on UNIX from the 1970's. NT is from the 1990's....

Your point is?

I thought UNIX was more modern than that. OS X is Apple's first use of UNIX, where MS has been using NT since NT. You'd think they'd have something new by now.

Unix started in 1969 and the BSD variant formed in the late 70s. That gave birth to Nextstep about 10 years later in 1987. OSX is essentially Nextstep with Aqua and a few APIs thrown in and was released in 2001, as im sure we all remember fondly :D
So OSX is essentially an OS based on an OS (nextstep) based on an OS (bsd) based on Unix.

"...Light years ahead." = iPhone Lite?

I noticed that Apple usually puts subtle clues in their advertisements for WWDC about what they will announce. There have recently been talks about an "iPhone Lite"... could this have something to do with Light Years Ahead? Just a guess..

Also, just wondering what everyone else thinks about the possibility of a Verizon iPhone announcement? Any hope for Verizon?

What iPhone Lite? Everyone's realized that the screen would be too small. And the banner would say "Lite Years Ahead" like there was "There's something in the Air." The keywords always stand out.

Actually, the word "air" was not capitalized and the only reason it stood out was because of all of the rumors of the macbook air. Otherwise, the word air would have been the last thing people would have been paying attention to. But, you are probably right that there will not be an iPhone Lite, I'm only hoping.

In the keynote, "Air" was capitalized.

So maybe in the keynote it'll say "Lite years ahead?" Just something to think about. I wonder how many times that has happened?

Doesn't look like much'll change unless they show us "Marble" durring the Keynote.

Also, does anyone know what was said here: MacTalk.com.au was issued a cease and desist for their Vodafone End-of-Life's iPhone story.

I would love more info on this if it can be PM'd to me. i am day one 3g aussie voda customer, and my partner just got an 8gb on there "lets get rid of them" plans

Wrong. AT&T already announced their upgrade to HSPA 7.2 technology.
iPhones need new hardware to take advantage of this tech.

did you miss the part where it said it would be completed by 2011.

so Apple can wait until next summer to release hardware that will support said network and probably still be months ahead of the game.

Or on Monday. :D

Ya never know until ya know. Monday ya'll know.

Well we know that it won't be Monday. Do you remember Apple ever releasing an OS without a counter going down from several weeks? They never abruptly release a major OS upgrade.

Well, Leopard's GM build number was 9A581. This one could be 10A380, and the next one could be 11A379 etc.........lets just say that Apple may be hiding something from us. You didn't hear it from me. :D

People want the portability that netbooks and laptops over any advantages that desktops bring which is why those markets are growing and desktops aren't. It's even more evident with Apple.

I fail to see the point in desktops or not in this issue. While I do think that Apple is neglecting their Mac-market, Snow runs on both desktops and laptops/notebooks. It could probably run on netbooks as well, though Apple, in their almighty wisdom, stubbornly keeps refusing us that option. Tablets could go to hell, they're just useless money-wasters. Neither of this matter for WWDC though as it is Snow Leopard that should be in focus, with iPhone on the side (if anything at all).

Unix started in 1969 and the BSD variant formed in the late 70s. That gave birth to Nextstep about 10 years later in 1987. OSX is essentially Nextstep with Aqua and a few APIs thrown in and was released in 2001, as im sure we all remember fondly :D

And as usual, Apple mainly wrapped the technology in a fancy package and put a hefty price tag on it! :D

Now that we have a new X.x release, we need a new cat name! Let the speculation commence.

Tiger (10.4), Leopard (10.5), Snow Leopard (10.6), 10.7?

Pigme Leopard?

Rocketman

Cougar or Lion?

I kind of like

SERVAL

And you could do some nice box art, like with Jaguar.

Good, I need an iPhone with more storage. The 16GB is just about full now. Now I'll have to see how I can cheaply get one, if it comes out...

2 days left! I would love to see Steve come on the stage for "One More Thing". I also wish that there would be a live video stream.

What abiutbpro apps. Aren't they releasing new pro apps updates? I know it's :45 minutes if apple self praise, look how much we've grown, barking dog, baby strollers, cry kids that apple cares about, but they better address logic, fcp. Way to long or updates. Sucks they got this tech just for iLife ALS.
Sigh

Logic needs elastic stretch. Pro tools e even has surround now and elastic is a blessing. Still, better to wait until days end so you don't have to hear the bore of how they have grown and comparisons of every year over and over. Gag me with a spoon. Lol.
