Apple can still feature cut webkit to destroy xCloud, or “accidentally” introduce a bug that leads to heavy lagging which is sooooooo difficult to find and fix. Apple platform must be forced to openness, also to allow other web engines to run.
The mere fact that Apple worked with MS to iron out the bugs in xCloud suggests that Apple sees this as a benefit.

Lol parent controls under iOS is non-sense BS, my kids constantly found a workaround, it became a running gag here at home, then I gave up iOS parents controls.
Enlighten us.

Can you use Gamepass without a controller? Does it support touch? I'm looking to play Fable and Mass Effect.

the thing is the tech isn't going to evolve anytime soon because the bottleneck is the path from your home over the internet to the server and back.

Maybe, in the next 10-20 years, the internet overall could have a much lower latency on average. But not going to happen anytime soon overall.
That’s not true!

my neighborhood has had spectrum for 20+ years which at best was offering 940/10 with a ping of 10-15. Speeds were often 650/7 with a ping of 15 during peak loads.

a brand new fiber company just laid a bunch of fiber last year. Each house has a dedicated connection. I now get 940/940 with a ping of 1.

it’s not that simple I know but I’m also 3 hours away from the nearest Azure data center so that also helps. (Over 60 azure data centers world wide so many people are closer to one than they realize)

many people still don’t have fiber but I live in a corn field so it’s certainly expanding.

MS are a monopoly on PC gaming , yes , they leveraged their war chest to buy studios left and right and use a proprietary API (DX) to make developers use one API to make other platforms bad ROI , you are proud of them for doing so , great , I'm sure MS the underdog are happy to have you on their side.

Cheers mate , have a good day!
Apple has more money than MS, so how is it not Apples fault for not buying ZeniMax?

Touch support is on a game by game basis apparently. As far as I can find only Minecraft Dungeons support it so far.

sorry for asking questions im sure have been covered earlier but its a long thread.

firstly, does it then work on safari on Mac?
secondly, can you use PS4 controllers?

thanks in advance

"Free" ... something is amiss.

Apple allows these web apps to bypass their profit margins but having an app in the app store is bad? The logic is non-existent. Apple even helps with these web apps to function.

im not sure you understand how the app store works

Why exactly should Apple’s tech and APIs be used for free? Please explain why they should do that?

if you had done basic research, you would have known that the app wasn't rejected because of the cost, it was the way apple demanded every single game have a separate app.

Microsoft is not a monopoly in PC gaming. There are plenty of players involved and the single most relevant entity in PC gaming is Valve, not Microsoft.

I don’t think this was Microsoft’s intention since they have been piling on, but it does make that point quite well.
Since Microsoft tends to make as little sense as possible. We know they had no good intention to help Apple here. Just that they "could" and of course make a buck doing so is well enough for them.
Nothing stopping EPIC and or Nvidia from making a similar web based game streaming service on any platform now.

Is it as good as an first class application, no of course not. But, that you pay for. This is free. I'm sure the judge in the EPICvApple case will take this into consideration when making a final ruling.

So let me get this clear. Various other companies sell computers and tech products but don't provide an app store or api's for their systems. LG sell laptops and phones, so do Lenovo, where is their app store and SDK? Where is their app review service?

You don’t buy a device to those other companies without licensing an OS. So I guess you also mean macOS devices too right? Did I say that Apple was double dipping with the macOS approach? … No … I was referring to the forced App Store 30% markup regardless if either you or a dev need such a service. Considering that in macOS that is not forced, for all intents and purposes the markup is closed to 0, tech is payed and licensed when the device is bought ….

The only reason such a comparatively high markup is justified in iOS is down to customer lock in … nothing else. Otherwise would probably be either lower or the App Store wouldn’t be used that much as is the case of macOS.

So are App Stores better? Well they are for certain more convenient. Still I would suggest you to study the price history of both payed apps and app subscriptions in the App Stores. It all started an one off price average less that $1 than $2. But now is $5. If you include app subscriptions according to statistics we are talking now an average $20 payments per customer per month to keep 4 or 5 regular apps functioning ($240 average a year just for apps, $72 to apple) … literally. Why such a rise in prices? Lock in.

And all of this being in the web instead of an app is due to Apple’s greed and not wanting anyone to compete with the Arcade.
Yeah, seems like you weren't paying attention. It's because Apple wanted to treat each streaming game as a separate app for vetting purposes. I'm sure there's the inherent greed with being a business involved and the bureaucracy of a large corporation not able to change policies quickly...but Apple Arcade? Pfff.

U4U, is that just the last year (last 3 quarters)? If have a link to that information, I’d love to read it.
Next Apple quarterly report is in about 3.5 weeks. Very interested to see if Mac increased over a very unexpected spike in general Mac/PC sales (biggest YoY was Mac). If this quarter somehow/someway sees growth over last quarter(it’s not a small IF)? Then there’s a new sheriff in town, his name is M1.
It’s reported by analysts that Apple sells roughly 20 million Macs a year (Apple doesn’t report unit sales anymore, so folks have to figure it out), sometimes more, sometimes less. Apple has also reported that half of the purchasers are folks that have never owned Macs before (this is from Apple, so it’s most accurate). So, it’s a very rough number, but accurate up until last year when there was the COVID bump. (Google Macintosh Unit Sales)

And these new accounts will (i would bet) auto renew if you don’t cancel.
i recently bought a xbox controller for my pc, and it came with 14 days free xbox gamepass.

when i registered, it asked me if i want it to expire after the 2 weeks or if want to set up a payment method so recurring payments can happen.

that should be standard everywhere.

The only thing not true is the "That's not true!" part of your reply.

Show me where I said no one has a good internet connection to a cloud gaming server farm. Or that faster internet isn't expanding? Hell you even quoted me saying it was expanding. I just said it is going to take a long time for that to happen OVERALL.

This might be a shocker but just because you have fiber and a great connection to a cloud gaming server doesn't mean that the world is going to have the same in the next ~5 years.

Anyone know whether when you play via a browser (whether iOS or elsewhere), does it still save game progress (how would a streaming game save your progress??) or do you need to play on a console for progress to be saved ?

Saves should be saved to the cloud. If you have the game on console it should sync the save. I am not 100% sure if the PC versions have the same syncing.

I Wish Apple would just play ball and allow them to make a dedicated app. It’s not like they compete at all in the gaming space.
I assumed this already as soon Apple went with their own system instead of Vulcan - for bigger AAA titles Apple is completely uninteresting. With an official app I could stream my own Xbox games.

Syncs across cloud, PC, and Xbox. I have been able to play Forza Horizon on my iPhone, Xbox, and PC and it just picks up where I left off. xCloud is still new but they are working out the kinks pretty quickly.

If you game, GamePass is a bargain no matter how you play these days. You can usually find some discounts to help keep the cost around $10 a month.
