I had a play with an Xbox One for the first time at the weekend, have to say I like the interface, it's a little laggy though. But Forza is tons of fun. Think I'll get an S at Christmas, not sure if I'll keep my PS4 as me nephew plays it when he visits.
I've lost interest with my PS4 now, poor free PSN games, bit of a boring exclusive lineup, Uncharted 4 for me wasn't as good as Uncharted 2. And it's a noisy beast.

It seems the PS4 downloads inteface content from the Internet in the background whereas the updated XBox One
downloads the content as you are on the page so those of us with slow DSL lines the interface is only as fast as our Internet access... :(

Yeah it's a sign of the times, all live online feeds. My internet runs at 30 Mbps on fibre, I'm in the UK so am lucky to have fibre at all! And I've updated my wireless so it covers all areas. Reading all the reviews today it seems the new Xbone S has a faster and smoother interface.

Ok so so I guess I should post my XB1 S experience.

Firstly can I just say Microsoft make transferring consoles really painless. Move games to external (mine were already on) sign into new console, make it your home console. Games work. So much time saved it's great.

Right firstly the new Xbox one S is noticeably smaller, it's about the same as the PS4 now.

Out of the box I had a 1.2gb update.

Once updated I was given the option for 4K at 60hz.

The interface is NOTICEABLY faster. Emphasis on noticeably. It really flies, there's no delay going into the left pane / settings and such.

Games don't look any different scaled to 4K as they did at 1080p.

Batman Vs Superman 4K Blu-Ray however looks incredible on a 4K HDR capable TV.

Not sure if it's a placebo but some games feel a little faster or stable framerate wise. If only by a small modicum.

Overall I'm impressed with it, if you can avail of a trade up from an existing XB1 it is well worth it imho.

Thanks for the write up. Mine is still on the delivery truck.

You are not imagining the FPS improvement. I saw this article where they posted some tests showing an improvement with some games.

Thanks for the impressions :) I really think I'll get one, I'm not really excited for any Sony exclusive and from what I've read the new S is a bit more powerful too. Yeah I really want to play Halo Wars and Forza.

But it has got to be a quiet console, and small, which it seems the S is, I stream Sky Go on my PS4 and it's fan is too noisy at night, and these days I can stop playing a game because I get fed up with the fan noise sounding like a fleet of the Red Arrows on take off!

I'm hoping by Christmas the 500GB Xbone S will be down to the 200 pound or less mark. Not really interested in VR and don't currently have a 4K TV.

I was worried that the S might be noisy compared to its bigger brother but thankfully it's quiet in operation, much quieter than the PS4 still.

That's good to know. I worry about this as well.

My plan is to eventually trade up to Scorpio, but at just over €100 the trade up at GameStop for me was great value.

Sounds like a great console, and I like the design.

Fan noise is my number one complaint with the PS4 (my only complaint, really), so I hope they will address that with the NEO.

I love my COD AW special edition console. Not willing to trade it out. But if I keep buying, I will end up have 3 (or more) XB1. Just like what I did on the 360 generation. :p

That COD is the best version of the original XBox One's (even better than the Halo one in my opinion and I love Halo).

Looking forward to the special edition XBox One S's - the GOW one looks incredibly wicked...

(might get one if it looks as good in real life)

Do you know how transferring would work if you don't have a lot of games. I only have a tomb raider upgrade and whatever files are created when you save a game. Would I have to get an external drive to move this stuff or do you know if its saved in the cloud. TU

You could likely use a thumb stick if it's just save games. I don't honestly know as I had already transfered all my content from my Xbox One 500gb to the 2tb external Xbox HDD prior as I had filled up the internal. So for the last while I've been putting everything on the external, so in my case I simply just plugged the external into the new Xbox one S and everything is working.

I think all xbox one game saves are stored in the cloud, so you shouldn't have to do anything as long as your previous console and new console is connected to the internet.

For backwards compatible games, I heard it is important to quit the game correctly to ensure the new save is stored in the cloud.

https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/compatibility-with-xbox-360-faq

How do I switch from playing a game on Xbox One to playing it on Xbox 360?

When you're playing on Xbox One, Xbox 360 game saves are uploaded only after you quit the game. You must quit the game from Home or launch another non-backward compatible game in order for your console to upload the save. If you turn off your console, it will be uploaded when you turn it back on.

Everything is on the MS servers. I did not backup anything locally and just installed my S and redownloaded everything with no problems.

I saw it at the MS Store. What a nice redesign. I hope they show a preview of the Gears one!

The new controller is cool also, the MS Store has many samples of the made-to-order ones.

Microsoft is the one to beat right now...

The silence coming from Sony and Nintendo gets eerier as time goes on...

I agree not much is coming from Nintendo (maybe they'll release info on the NX *before* it is released?), but that low hum coming from Sony? It isn't silence, it is the sound of their cash counting machines counting how much money they are making.

MS is loosing on XBox Revenue since people are either waiting for the new one are the fire sales they are having on the current one..

Yes, I sold my PS4 for $200 cash at Gamestop - not worth it now just for me to play 3 games (Planetside, Killzone, and Ratchet & Clank) as the other games it has I can get on XBox One... I'll buy a new PS4 again when they are at $200.

I'm surprised how much the PS stuff is still selling for. Plus Gamestop raised prices on the used Vita, which is essentially dead... (you should see the ton of used ones being brought in now).

I guess PS users are die-hard. That's how the Dreamcast died, people would rather wait for a "rumored" PS2 and on top of that, wait extra time after release to get one, rather than get a Dreamcast now (which had better graphics and my type of games on top of that, the XBox had better graphics as well). The Dreamcast even to this day is no slouch, whereas trying to play PS2 games is an "eyesore"...

I guess they plan on people ignoring the $299 XBox with UHD 4K drive in favor of their PS 4 NEO and VR coming in together at $900...

I have no idea why MS basically "Osborned" themselves (look it up: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osborne_effect ) with announcing that new one whatever it is.

It really looks like Sony has captured the minds of this generation console users, both here and in Japan, which is quite an accomplishment.

Hey, as someone who sold their PSOne, and kept their Dreamcast (still have it!), and never bought another Sony console, a) you don't have to convince me, and b) I can't explain it either.

Firstly just so you guys know Microsoft has not done ANYTHING to damage the Xbox One sales, in fact the new S model has sold out everywhere! So that's a fair bit of cash for them. They are also not making anymore 2 terabyte models after this initial batch and the new Gears special edition model. They will launch the 1 terabyte and 500GB models in a couple of weeks instead.

As for Nintendo they are rumoured to show their new console next month and Sony has sent invitations to the press for a PlayStation special event it's holding next month too, so basically the launch of Neo.

So yeah, one new model is selling like hot cakes and the other two will be announced in September.

My new xbox one S wireless hardware has just died only a few weeks after purchase :( :(

Will have to send back to Microsoft for repair - but will try to exchange with Gamestop first.
