Well that is good. Initial reports stated that the price hike started today.

Mine still shows $20 for $10/9. Let's see what happens for November.

It seems gamers are not taking this lying down. Cancellations are supposedly happening in mass

Xbox Game Pass prices increase 50%, cancellation webpage crashes due to traffic spike
News
This price hike is a sign of things to come. Microsoft goal is to generate more money from gamepass than selling hardware. Gamepass is becoming xbox main product.

To be honest gamepass have been unrealistically cheap over the years. Like netflix and Spotify prices, the price will likely rise every year.

Oh no question, and in a sense, its surprising that it too MS this long to really go whole hog in the price hikes. They had hiked the price previously but this is on a whole new level.

I don't think so, especially when you consider how many studios they own now and how much money Microsoft is making hand over fist.

As the linked article and screen short. net income is up by 24% yet they feel that they need to make even more money?

Xbox Content and Services can always be higher!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has been cheap. For the price of a new game $60-70, you can buy 6 months of Gamepass to play $60 titles on day one and lots of others. This doesn't include 1-3 month free trial.

Xbox is a seperate business unit to Azure and office 365. It has its own profit and loss and need to recoup the billions spent on aquiring studios and pumping funds into new titles.

The timing for this price rise isn't great for the brand with the ROG ally X priced at $1,000. Either way, MS won't care what device you buy as long as you subscribe to gamepass.

Its been affordable, and made sense for people to subscribe. Now that they jacked up the price, the value propisition isn't there.

I know, and the fact remains that business unit has been profitable. Microsoft's xbox content and services grew by 13% and overall the xbox business unit saw 5.5 billion this past quarter an increase of 10% YoY

Aside from the hardware side, xbox has been making money hand over fist. Its hard to spin this any other way then corporate greed

I hit hard. Specially because is a huge increase in a subscription that you probably share with another subscriptions.. in the end, everything sums when you see your balance account.

I have the renewal this October 10th for the same price. I think I'm out after that. Will play Helldivers 2 with my brother like a maniac and after that, I will sell my Series X and just upgrade my NVIDIA 1070 and go for PC. I was a good ride but nah, thank you

It hasn't been $10 a month for a while for day one releases. Now it's $30. You have to play 6 day one titles to get your money's worth out of it now. This, the recent price rises in Xbox consoles, the lack of exclusives, the high price of the Xbox ROG Ally X make it seem like they want to kill Xbox. Hell with PS5 Pro the best place to play Xbox games on console isn't even an Xbox anymore! It's not a good value anymore. I think most people are better off just choosing the new releases they want for full price or waiting for them to go on sale than hoping they show up on Game Pass for $30 a month.

I personally don’t subscribe to game pass because many of the games are not great. Ubisoft and ea play are extra. I only dip into game pass 1-2 times per year - mainly as try before you buy.

At $29.99 it will be less appealing. For that money I can 1-3 games the I really want to play on sale.

Ubisoft and EA play are not extra. They are now included with GP Ultimate which is required to get day one games.

I stopped GamePass after the previous price hike. I don't game much anyway. Still have many games that I need to finish (CyberPunk, Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, ...)

It's cheaper for me to own than to rent.

Interestingly, I see that the Xbox Series X also gets a price increase. I wonder if I can sell my Xbox Series X at a profit in 2025.

Windows Central is covering and it looks like the tidal wave of cancellations has not yet subsided

After price change, Xbox Game Pass users are canceling subscriptions so fast that Microsoft's website is struggling to keep up — and I don't blame them

"That's going to price so many people out, and really ironic after they literally just talked about it being profitable," added another. "It's just not worth it for casual gamers, especially since you can get quite a few games each month for $30 in the sales. $360 a year is nuts for a subscription service."

It’s comical that a console bought in 2020 is more expensive 5 years later. Unfortunately resale value isn’t high - especially as many Xbox exclusives are coming to the ps5.

They jacked the GamePass price? (I'm out of the loop)

I thought it was sort of a ripoff as it was already priced.

Wow ... That won't go well I don't think.

At least where I live, I see folks having trouble selling the X for $300...and the S for $150-200

I have no clue who's buying them new at these inflated prices now.
