I admit I purchased the xbox360 based mostly on the Halo franchise. However the selection of 360 games is quite good. I don't know how MS thinks they can compete with PS's free online play, but I guess they are happy with their subscriber base as a source of income, where the PS has no income for this service. I'm willing to pay a subscription for the right MMO, not so quick to jump into subscription casual online play. Currently playing 100% solo and offline coop.

I guess so... BUT seriously have you seen PS controllers? I don't know anyone except sony fanboys that like the PS controller better.

I've been using them since the first playstation came out. And I prefer them to the XBox controller. I guess I must be a sony fanboy? Seriously though, if I were to use an xbox controller for an extended period of time, I would get used to that as well. They're both functional and ergonomic enough IMO. Most of the time "____ is better" is solely based on familiarity with one controller over the other.

I wouldn't go so far as to call you a fanboy for liking the PS controllers. Claw-handed Cyborg maybe, but not fanboy :D

But really, I do sort of agree with him. I find the PS controllers to be very uncomfortable and awkward. It's a little small, the analog sticks are too close together, and the R2/L2 buttons are terrible. The thing that amazes me about them, though, is how Sony just assumes they got the design "Right" over 15 years ago, and hasn't bothered to change it, aside from adding more buttons.

Not to further take this thread OT but I don't like the PS controllers either. It's not that I haven't used them enough it's that I don't find them comfortable at all (especially after long play periods). I don't like the use of symbols/shapes, the attempt at triggers, the mushy feeling buttons or the symmetrical analog sticks that are too close together.

I love my PS3.

I bought an xbox to play with friends and they all ended up buying a ps3 when theirs broke. Most of them said they regretted the xbox since getting used to the PS3 experience.

Anyone who needs to use a D-pad might disagree with you. The D-pad on the 360's (original) controller is pretty awful.

I have both consoles, and to be honest after a few minutes of gameplay I don't even notice which controller I'm using. I'm surprised people can get so worked up about it.

I have both an Xbox 360 and a PS3 and they both go unused.

The Xbox 360 definitely had the better online experience, though. I rarely used the PS3 to play games online.

^^^ The D-pad on the old 360 and new "twist" controller are both awful. The button needs to be 4 separate buttons, or at least not rock as easily as they do to accidentally push diagonal.

I agree. And the fact they decided to remove the color from the A/B/X/Y buttons on the new D-pad improved Twist controller is just unacceptable.

However, the PS3's DualShock 3 trigger buttons are awful, the built-in battery is a problem and it seems to have a cheaper overall build quality compared to the XBOX 360's controller.

So they're both flawed.

I don't see how the built in battery is a problem. I've got 4x DualShock 3 and 2x original SIXAXIS controllers, and they're all perfectly fine and still last ages on battery. Really haven't run in to the issue of a dead controller, and my pair of PS3s get a lot of use.

My 360 on the other hand? I've got 4 controllers, and am down to one working original battery. I went out shopping for new batteries, and to my shock the only way to get official Microsoft batteries these days is to buy the Play & Charge kit. Hold on, I've already got two P&C cables, I don't want more! Luckily I found a Blockbuster that had a single battery sitting on the shelf from old stock, so I'm now up to two.

In my experience the 360 batteries have been unreliable (3 died), and then to top it off are now not available on their own. That removes any kind of advantage they had over the PS3's built in ones.

Oh, and I've had a dead Wii Remote too. What's worse that was the entire thing, not just the batteries.

I have both official and after market batteries.
I actually prefer using rechargeable AA batteries. Extremely inexpensive 8 2500mah for $14 with a 4 battery quick charger. I have 16 batteries for controllers and instruments.
Going on 3 years with such a set up, my son has the rechargeable battery packs

So if I buy an Xbox 360, I have to pay monthly fees in order to play games in multiplayer? I am not sure I get this since PS3 offers free multiplayer and blue ray capabilities. Whats the XBox 360 incentive to buy?

I have both.

The PS3 is a wonderful media box, with loads of features including excellent 3D support for Bluray. Some games like Killzone 2 & Uncharted 2 push the mutlicore CPU to new heights. Sadly the console is hard to develop for, and often games look better on 360.

Xbox live is light years ahead of PSN, in terms of dashboard integration and quality of service.

I tend to play all multiplatform games on 360, and keep the PS3 for exclusives like Metal Gear, Killzone, Uncharted, Ratchet and Gran Turismo.

If I had to only buy one console, I'd go for the PS3, due to Bluray.

the PS3's true advantage is its support of standard 2.5" SATA notebook hard drives. Users can upgrade the PS3's hard drive with drives that have higher capacities and faster rpm speeds, while the Xbox only supports Microsoft's proprietary HDD model.

Really, at the end of the day just buy whatever has the content you most desire. The hardware is superflous, it's 'your' desired content that should govern the decision. No point having machine A, if the majority of the content you want is on B etc.

Common sense is all that is required.

360 has better graphics.

PS3 technically has better hardware and thus is more 'future proof' but it's very difficult to make games for the weird processor that it uses. So I say why buy something that is meh now but that will be good only in a few years?

Live is a much, much nicer experience than Playstation Network. Much more content and a much larger community with a nicer set of features.

Here's the one dividing point, though:
If you want an excellent gaming console, get a 360.
If you want a decent gaming console with great built-in media functionality like the Bluray, get a PS3.

i have both, but only have x-box 360 games

when i moved a few months ago i bought the PS3 as a blu-ray/netflix player since it was the same price as a wifi enabled 3d blu ray player.

bought the x-box 360 with kinect a few weeks ago

netflix is better on PS3, but gaming is better on the x-box. along with the GUI of the console. kinect is very good too. x-box controller is a lot better as well since it's made for americans' hands. PS3 controller is too small

...very difficult to make games for the weird processor that it uses...
no.

It's hard to make games for the PS3 because of the small amount of ram and the fact that the PRAM and VRAM available is separated and not integrated, so resource allotment is more controlled and, for example, you can't have the VRAM handle certain actions during stretches when it's being underutilized while the PRAM is at or near max capacity, and vice versa. With the xbox the RAM can be pooled, or shared.

But they both have their pluses or minuses, but the main difference for me is online play. if you are a hardcore online player, you may prefer the xbox, and if you only play casually, then you'll prolly use live gold just enough to want it, but it'll piss you off that you pay so much for something and don't use it all that often. I rarely play online, but when I do, i like knowing it's an available option for me with my PS3.

And I hate how MS has tied all those extra services to live gold, like netflix, espn, etc. You already have to pay for netflix, now you gotta pay AGAIN to use it??!!

Apparently, the PS3's biggest title is slightly flawed.
GT5, a title that has been several years in the making, apparently slows down when there are a lot of cars on screen at the same time.

Taking into account the 'theoretical power' of the PS3 and the time they spent developing the game, that's unforgiveable. Not to mention that I have always found the GT series a tad boring. Too much hard work.

We have five year old twins. It's between the Wii or the 360 with Kinect. It's three against one so I'm afraid the Wii's gonna win. But if if were up to me, I'd get a 360 : Forza 3, SSF4, Halo, ...
